Mike and The Mechanics have announced an eight date tour of the UK in June and July 2012.
Mike Rutherford, a founding member of the band, has enjoyed a whirlwind 12 months, following the success of 2011’s album ‘The Road’ with a fresh sound and a new generation of Mike and The Mechanics.
Two new faces joined forces with Mike for the band’s 2011 return, the first being Andrew Roachford, best known for storming the UK charts with the anthem, ‘Cuddly Toy’. A true entertainer and prolific songwriter, Roachford co-wrote and sang on ‘The Road’, breathing fresh air into the chameleon nature of Mike and The Mechanics. Joning Roachford on vocal duties is Tim Howar, a Canadian actor/singer, now residing in the UK. An exceptional talent, Tim has starred on Broadway and the West End as well as toured with his band, Vantramp.
Mike Rutherford formed Mike + The Mechanics in 1984, and has sold over 10 million records worldwide. Their 1985 self-titled debut record featured Top Ten hit singles ‘Silent Running (On Dangerous Ground)’ and ‘All I Need Is A Miracle’, not to mention 1988’s ‘The Living Years’, which became a worldwide number one smash, achieving global recognition for the band.

Noel Gallagher to receive NME godlike genius award 2012

Noel Gallagher to receive NME godlike genius award 2012

@nmemagazine / #nmeawards
The NME Awards 2012 is proud to announce that Noel Gallagher, the man who defined the sound of a generation, is the winner of its prestigious NME Godlike Genius Award.
Noel has confirmed he will pick up the award at the iconic NME Awards 2012, which take place at London’s O2 Academy Brixton on Wednesday 29 February
Noel Gallagher says: “I would like to thank NME for bestowing upon me such a great accolade. I have dreamt of this moment since I was 43 years old. I accept that I am now a genius, just like God.”
It’s been an incredible 12 months for Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, topping the album charts, scoring a hit with “AKA What a Life” and selling out arenas across the country. Defining the sound of the past year is no mean feat, defining the sound of an entire generation is truly extraordinary. As the mastermind behind Oasis, Noel spearheaded the resurgence of 90’s guitar bands with the life-changing, era defining album Definitely Maybe. Oasis sound-tracked what it was like to grow up in Britain in the ‘90s and beyond, with Noel responsible for anthems including ‘Live Forever’, ‘Supersonic’, ‘Wonderwall’, ‘Don’t look back in Anger’, ‘Cigarettes And Alcohol’ and ‘Little by Little’. These aren’t mere greatest hits – they’re national anthems, as ingrained in Britain’s musical psyche as anything The Beatles, The Stones or The Pistols ever produced.
NME editor Krissi Murison says: “For the best part of two decades, the voice of one man has dominated the pages of NME more than any other. That man is Noel Gallagher. Opinionated, intelligent, passionate and always hilarious – Noel walks and talks it better than any other musician out there, and it's just one of the reasons why the British public loves him so dearly. The other reason, of course, is the anthems. No individual has written as many sing–out–loud classics as Noel. His songwriting has defined a generation, and for that reason I’m incredibly happy to declare Noel NME’s Godlike Genius. That he keeps pushing boundaries as a solo artist proves that there’s a long way to go in the story of one of the most talented musicians Britain has ever produced.”
The NME Godlike Genius Award is an accolade that is only handed out to the true greats of the music world. The culmination of the evening, it recognises the best of the best. Previous winners include The Clash, Paul Weller, The Cure, Manic Street Preachers, New Order & Joy Division and, last year, Dave Grohl.
The NME Awards season gets underway with the NME Awards Tour. Headlined by Two Door Cinema Club with Metronomy, Tribes and Azealia Banks also on the bill it kicks off at O2 Academy Glasgow on February 8.
The NME Awards Shows also take place throughout February.  Justice will play a five date UK tour whilst Marina And The Diamonds, The Cribs, The Black Keys, The Drums, Kurt Vile, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, Pure Love, Alabama Shakes, tUnE-yArDs, Charlie XCX, Band of Skulls, Oh Land, Little Dragon, Cloud Control, The Big Pink, The Jezabels, S.C.U.M, Zulu Winter and Slow Club are set to play NME Awards Shows in iconic venues throughout London.

Los Campesinos! Announce Full UK Tour In March 2012

Los Campesinos Announce Full UK Tour In March 2012

LOS CAMPESINOS!  Announce full UK Tour in March
PRESALE TODAY & TOMORROW: http://www.loscampesinos.com/gigs/
ON GENERAL SALE WEDNESDAY 18th JANUARY

"focused, punchy and beautifully poetic" Q 4 stars
"Los Campesinos! could well be a British The National. 'Hello Sadness', goodbye childlike obscurity." NME
"Sundry heartbreak anthems... as they're grown, they've accrued a pleasingly emotional weight."  Uncut 4 stars
"Long may true love alude them." The Independent
"it's their most fully-realised effort yet" The Fly

Following the release of  Los Campesinos!’s fourth album, Hello Sadness, in November last year on Wichita to an accompanying heap of critical praise, the Cardiff-based band are delighted to announce a full UK jaunt this coming March.

Recorded in Girona, Spain, Hello Sadness is ten songs of love, loss and heartbreak nail-gunned to a back-drop of broken, tangled bodies, creeping, dead-eyed animals, suffocating, looming shadows and World Cup exits. It is an honest, bare-bones documentation of breaking up and trying not to break up in the process. At just ten songs and 40 minutes, Hello Sadness is perhaps the first Los Campesinos! album that sounds lean and pruned, indulgence shorn away and filler ruthlessly excised. The youngsters that made debut You! Me! Dancing! are long gone. The band they’ve grown into, though, are something to fall for all over again. Hold tight for news on a new single in March to coincide with the following dates:

Tue 20 Mar - Exeter, Pheonix
Wed 21 Mar - Bristol, Thekla
Thu 22 Mar - London, Electric Ballroom
Fri 23 Mar - Oxford, O2 Academy2
Sat 24 Mar - Birmingham, Rainbow Warehouse
Mon 26 Mar - Manchester, Academy 3
Tue 27 Mar - Liverpool, O2 Academy2
Wed 28 Mar - Edinburgh, Cabaret Voltaire
Thu 29 Mar, Newcastle, O2 Academy2
Sat 31 Mar - Sheffield, Leadmilll

Lightning Seeds announce UK Dates for 2012

*Academy Events presents
Wednesday 14th September 2011:Following a summer of festival sets across the UK, the Lightning Seeds announce a UK tour for February 2012, featuring a hometown show at O2 Academy Liverpool, and a Londondate at O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire.

Formed by Ian Broudie in 1989, the band has been entertaining audiences for over 20 years, and it’s easy to see why when witnessing their unmissable live performance.

Following his involvement with numerous bands in post-punk Liverpool, Broudie conceived the band and penned the majority of the critically acclaimed, debut album, ‘Cloudcuckooland’, which featured the hugely popular single, ‘Pure’. It was the band’s 1994 album, ‘Jolification’, which saw the Lightening Seeds garner the attention they so rightly deserved. Widely regarded as one of the best albums of the 1990s, this seminal release spawned hit singles ‘Lucky You’, ‘Change’, ‘Perfect’ and ‘Marvellous’ and paved the way for the Britpop period.

In 2006 they released of ‘The Very Best of the Lightning Seeds’ and in 2009 Ian went on to release his solo album “Tales Told” whilst discovering and producing debut albums for The Coral and The Zutons.

The band returned to the live arena playing a full UK tour in 2010. and then rounded off the year as support act for Squeeze, accompanying the band as special guests on their 22 date UK tour.

Ian Broudie says; “I had a great time on the Squeeze tour and really looking forward to playing my own shows with an elaborate and eclectic mix of Lightning Seeds songs.”

SWEET JANE at Oxegen

SWEET JANE follow up a great month supporting Suede and touring in the UK and Asia, with another career highlight when they take to the 2fm/Hotpress/Academy stage at Oxegen on Saturday at 3.30.  Their shows in Asia won the band many admirers amongst the international  industry in attendance, and many fans as well.   Plaudits  also continue to roll in for their album, Sugar For My Soul, from the UK, and the recent new RTE cookery series, Kitchen Hero made liberal use of music from that album.  While busy in the studio recording for their second album, Sweet Jane are looking forward to their appearance at Oxegen, and at Glasgowbury on July 23rd.

While Sweet Jane’s career is very much in the ascendant, it’s great to see The Blades music kept alive 25 years after their demise, as the Readers No 1 choice in leading UK music magazine Mojo last month, and their name unexpectedly appearing in a Nike soccer ad ‘Before and After Ronaldo’,  where a mock-up of a poster for The Blades at the Baggot Inn appears among exalted company of other past geniuses, including Copernicus, Newton, and Gallilleo!!  Even more strange as the ad was made far from these shores in Argentina, and focuses on Brazilian soccer stars! Check it out at 0.35 secs

FIRST ACTS ANNOUNCED FOR LIVERPOOL MUSIC WEEK 2010

LEFTFIELD / CHASE & STATUS / EFTERKLANG /

DAN LE SAC vs SCROOBIUS PIP / BEARDYMAN / HADOUKEN / K’NAAN

We are pleased to announce the first acts for this year Liverpool Music Week festival, which runs from the 29th October through November.

One of the headline acts for this year’s Liverpool Music Week, is one of the world’s most iconic electronic acts LEFTFIELD who close the 2010 festival at Liverpool University. After a series of outstanding summer festival performances Neil Barnes returns with a new live show. The band who trailblazed their unique sound in the early 90’s and took John Lydon back to the top of the charts, are back after over a decade. Leftfield’s debut album ‘Leftfism’ was voted ‘one of the greatest albums of all time’ by Q Magazine, and their follow up album ‘Rhythm & Stealth’ went to Number 1 spawning the techno anthem ‘Phat Planet’.

Another of this year’s headline acts will be CHASE & STATUS, after a hugely successful outing at this year’s summer festivals. Currently celebrating the release of their latest hit single “Let You Go”, from their forthcoming (and yet to be titled) 3rd album, they headline the o2 Academy on Saturday 13th November.

Another act confirmed for LMW 2010 is the highly acclaimed EFTERKLANG who have recently released their third album entitled Magic Chairs on 4AD. This will be the bands Liverpool debut, and will be flying in from Copenhagen especially to perform during LMW at o2 Academy on Sunday 7th November.

DAN LE SAC VS SCROOBIUS PIP is the next act to be announced for this year’s festival. Since their Liverpool debut at Liverpool Music Week 2007, they have gone on to become one of the best known names in revolutionary new music. On the back of a blistering festival run and their second critically acclaimed album, ‘Le Sac v Pip’ will take on their biggest Liverpool show yet at o2 Academy on Wednesday 3rd November.

Further hip hop & electronic beats will come in the form of improvisation sensation BEARDYMAN. Having won the UK beatboxing championships twice in a row, winning best MC at the Breakspoll awards, will make his LMW debut on the opening night of this year’s festival at the Stanley Theatre on Friday 29th October.

Two other acts to play shows at the Stanley Theatre are HADOUKEN and K’NAAN. A huge favourite in the city, dance-rock-ravers Hadouken will follow on from their second album ‘For the Masses’, and make their LMW debut on the Saturday 30th October.

Somali poet & rapper K’naan will make his much anticipated city debut following his huge summer hit Waving Flag, (the official song of the 2010 World Cup) and is touring his new groundbreaking album Troubador, hitting Liverpool on Saturday 13th November.

Liverpool Music Week began in 2003 and over the last 8 years has gone onto become a nationally recognised event and highlight of the music calendar. Resulting in Liverpool Music Week becoming the UK’s biggest indoor winter music festival, a musical showcase that features big name acts and gives a performance platform for fresh emerging talent, a number of which have gone on to reach nationwide success. Last years event attracted a record breaking 65,000 people to the city and is a combination of free and ticketed shows. The winning format returns in 2010 to stage over 80 events and play host to over 400 live bands.

LMW Director and founder Mike Deane said: “As we head into our 8th festival, there have been several landmark announcements, but in particular it’s been a serious long-term ambition for me to see Leftfield on the line-up for Liverpool Music Week. We’re also really pleased to have persuaded Efterklang to make their Liverpool debut. They will be flying in especially to play the festival. These are just the first of several exciting announcements for Liverpool Music Week 2010.”

Public Image Limited @ Liverpool 02. 24th July 2010

“This is P.I.L and we don't fuck about with ceremony,” were the opening words from the infamous Johnny Rotten aka John Lydon, lead singer of Public Image Limited. Taking centre stage next to his lyrics on a stand, he almost resembled a preacher, relaying the word of Punk. The days of original punk rock maybe behind us, but for tonight it returned with a vengeance to Liverpool's O2 Academy and hundreds of punk fans come out of retirement to relive it's heyday.

Starting the two hour set off with, “This Is Not A Love Song”, you could see that Lydon had not lost his unmistakable vocals. They may have mellowed slightly with age but still contain the raw punk element of yesteryear, with emotion put into each and every lyric as the set went on and a few funky little dance moves to match.

The crowd were soon in full flow as the set went higher and higher as each electric punk induced track went by with the odd rock riff for good measure until P.i.L turned the tone on it's head completely with tribal beats and raw primal base, this was the start of not one single member of the crowd standing still and it soon turned into a frenzy of aged punks forgetting they are now settled into mid life and saw them return to their youth.

With crowd interactions a plenty and witty put down's, especially to one “ill” member of the crowd, who Lydon kindly dedicated, “A little ditty called Psycho's Path” too. It was banter like this and the undeniable massive personality of John Lydon, that you can't help hanging on his every word, whether it be lyric or witticism and you fully understand why fans have followed P.i.L with undeniable loyalty over the last 32 years and understand the sheer elation on hearing they were reforming in 2009.

Once P.i.L had exited the stage, the crowd refused to move, instead chanting and clapping for more while awaiting the obligatory encore, which we didn't have to wait too long for as they came back on stage, to huge cheers and immediately played the tracks that they are most famous for and the crowd had obviously been waiting to hear, “Open Up” and “Rise”.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club

The continued success of BRMC may come as some surprise to most as the band haven’t really had a major hit in a few years but when seeing them live you can understand why they still have such a huge following. This gig is no different as it is jam-packed to the rafters with punters all wanting a slice of the rock and roll pie.

If you like your bands with very little audience participation and lots of sneering darkness then BRMC are the band for you and by the reaction to their onstage entrance would imply this is exactly what their type of following insists on. Cranking it up as soon as the first chord is played we are subjected to 90 minutes of intensity and guitar thrashing the likes most probably have never seen in their lifetime.

Ranging from blues and blue grass harmonica induced songs through to acoustic ballads and thrusting through into T-Rex rock stomping beats, this is a non stop juggernaut filled with blackness and brooding which the clambering crowd are dragged through willingly and embrace with open arms.

If there were any negative comments about the night the only one I would point out was length of the set. Ninety minutes is a long time to stand in a heat soaked arena without a break but then again maybe that’s just my age speaking and I guess ending with the ever popular “Spread your Love” made it a worthwhile endurance and one I would gladly advise anyone to undertake.
