NME Awards Tour 2012

THE NME AWARDS TOUR HITS THE ROAD

FEATURING
TWO DOOR CINEMA CLUB
METRONOMY
TRIBES
AZEALIA BANKS

?nmeawards

The infamous NME Awards Tour is back for 2012 and ready to showcase the year’s most exciting emerging music talent. Renowned for giving the freshest new acts their first taste of national notoriety – past alumni include Arctic Monkeys, The Killers, Florence & The Machine, Crystal Castles and The Vaccines – 2012’s line-up captures the spirit of 2011 and sets the agenda for an explosive forthcoming year of music.

Running throughout February, the NME Awards Tour kicks off in Glasgow (8th) and visits 12 venues across the UK, bringing the very best in new music directly to music fans, ending with a show-stopping finale in London (25th).

NME editor Krissi Murison says: “As far as NME Awards Tour line-ups go, it’s difficult to imagine one more exciting than this or more representative of the cutting edge sounds that will define 2012. Every week in NME we bang on about how brilliant these bands are, and this is an amazing opportunity to see them all on the same bill. Two Door Cinema Club are one of the most exciting live bands in the world right now, Metronomy recorded arguably the album of the year, Tribes are the future of British indie music and Azealia Banks is, well, pretty much the most exciting new act on the planet. It’s going to be a good one…”

Having quietly become one of the UK’s best loved bands, Two Door Cinema Club will headline the hotly anticipated annual tour. Since releasing their debut album ‘Tourist History’ in March 2010, Two Door Cinema Club have rapidly become one of the biggest new success stories in UK music. After selling out headline tours in the UK, US, Europe, Australia, Asia, Japan and South America, playing two successive sold out nights at O2 Shepherds Bush Empire and selling out the O2 Academy Brixton in under four hours, the band have deservedly earned both a devoted word-of-mouth live following and huge critical acclaim.

Two Door Cinema Club say: "It feels great to be headlining the NME Tour and be amongst what feels like a great line-up as well. We had a taste of the tour when we did the local support slots when the Tour came to Ireland with the Maccabees when we were pretty much just starting out as a band. We feel a real sense of achievement to have made it this far and be one among the incredible list of headliners on the NME Awards Tour."

Hailing from the tiny, bohemian market town of Totnes in Devon, Metronomy join the line-up this year. One of the most expansive and visionary pop bands in the country, Metronomy will be supplying the NME Awards Tour with proof that it’s possible for electronic bands to put on a show as authentic as any rock band.

Metronomysay: "It's pretty exciting to be part of a travelling tour, a bit like a circus or something. It's been a while since we did a tour this long with the same bands for the whole thing, so hopefully there will be some camaraderie between the bands. Failing that there should be some incredibly violent 'beefs' which will make for good reading in the magazine."

London quartet Tribes have gone from prodigious debutant slots opening for their idols The Pixies, to relentless grassroots grafting of the UK dives, to being lauded ‘the future of rock ‘n’ roll’ by the Mystery Jets.

Tribes say: “We're really f***ing excited to be going on the NME Tour. We're really happy to be part of it, considering the history of the tour, and the fact the likes of The Vaccines and The Horrors have done it before. Hopefully there'll be some good after parties too – we're all about the partying.”

New York producer/MC Azealia Banks, who has been steadily perfecting her craft and making a name for herself, has bagged the coveted opening slot for the NME Awards Tour 2012. Since her first steps as a child in off-broadway theatre productions to her training at La Guardia High School of Performing Arts – a breeding ground for stars – Azealia Banks’ seasoned bars and angelic voice give everybody a reason to rewind that track.

Azealia Banks says: “I've been reading NME since I was old enough to ride the trains, where I’d buy it on newsstands... it's almost surreal that I’ve been selected to participate in this tour... it's such an honour.”

Tickets for the NME Awards Tour 2012 will be available on pre-sale exclusively through www.NME.com from 9am on Wednesday 9th November. They will then be on general release via Gigs and Tours and Ticketmaster on Friday 11th November.

Plastikman Live 1.5 UK tour dates announced

Richie Hawtin Presents Plastikman Live 1.5
UK Tour Dates Announced
Tickets on general sale 9am Friday 22nd July 2011

We are pleased to announce the return of Richie Hawtin’s iconic alter ego Plastikman for his first ever standalone world tour which will see him perform 3 spectacular shows in the UK including Manchester, Glasgow and London.   The award winning live show will unveil itself in an all new 1.5 format as it continues to evolve and push technology and live performance forward.

Plastikman is arguably one of the only live shows around where all aspects of the performance - music, lighting, audio, visuals and real-time audience interaction via the SYNK App - are controlled by a single on-stage performer. The Plastikman live experience has been developed by the electronic visionary Richie Hawtin, Derivative and his production team over the past ten years. In 2010, readers of the largest electronic music portal Resident Advisor voted Plastikman as the ‘number one’ live electronic show of the year.

Richie Hawtin’s Plastikman creation returned in 2010 and debuted its new look at Timewarp in Mannheim in March of that year. This version toured festivals the world over, establishing an unrivalled reputation as one of the most spectacular electronic live shows of all time, and quickly united a new generation of music fans with those who had followed the Plastikman project from its groundbreaking innovations in the 1990s. The Plastikman logo once again has returned to the forefront of the electronic movement as EDM (electronic dance music) fever gripped North America and Plastikman performed acclaimed shows at Electric Daisy Carnival and Canada’s Mutek.

Hawtin and his team have continued to develop and evolve the show - incorporating brand new Plastikman music, visuals and interactive technologies. The updates of the show have once again been created within Hawtin's fully-collaborative lighting, visual and interactive team: Ali Demirel & Jarrett Smith of Derivative. (TouchDesigner visuals);  Matthias Vollrath (lighting integrations); Jeremy Jacobs (JPLS) & Johannes Kramer (sonic upgrades); and Robert Hexler & Bryan McDade (interactivity).

As with all previous dates, Plastikman Live will be fully interactive for any fans with the free SYNK iPhone application, which itself has been re-launched with new features including a live chat, live behind-the-curtain camera feed and more interactive elements, making the show one of the only genuinely interactive concert experiences in the world today.

Richie Hawtin aka Plastikman states: “I'm incredibly excited to finally take Plastikman on its first standalone tour. These dates will represent the last opportunities for fans to catch Plastikman Live in its current form: the 1.5 version of the show we've spent nearly a year of fine-tuning. After that, Plastikman will be returning to the shadows to begin work on a brand new 2.0 concept. The fall tour will be full of surprises, and the performance will continue to be spontaneous and unique for every show – the way I believe live music should be performed in 2011.”

Support on the UK leg of the tour will come from Magda and Ambivalent - with full line-ups for each date to be announced shortly.  For full info on the world tour go to www.plastikman.com/live
The Plastikman Live 2011 tour is in proud association with media & ticket partner Resident Advisor.
Tickets go on general sale 9am Friday 22nd July.

Chilly Gonzales Live UK dates for 2011

2010 will be remembered as the year that Chilly Gonzales finally made it in the UK, with new album Ivory Tower receiving huge critical acclaim and best of year accolades everywhere from Clash to DJ. Add to this the heavy rotation over the airwaves (on Radio 1 from the likes of Pete Tong, Annie Mac and an upcoming live session for Rob Da Bank as well as an Xfm playlist spot), and a mention for recent single ‘Never Stop’ being chosen by Apple to soundtrack the latest iPad advert, broadcasting Chilly’s magic to millions of homes across the globe.

2011 starts with a bang, as new single ‘You Can Dance’ is released on 28 February. A euphoric hand-clap piano jamboree, you couldn’t get a more upbeat disco-soul number. Check out the sassy video here: http://vimeo.com/17879608
The release also comes with a clutch of remixes, including nineteen year old blog sensation Robotaki who is currently outshining all in his wake and Boysnoize Records very own Shadow Dancer.

In addition to all this marvellous news, Chilly’s brilliant and hilarious film Ivory Tower, featuring Tiga and Peaches as well as Gonzales staple Feist, is due for release on DVD next year. Until such time, it has been picked up by the Glasgow Film Festival in February. It truly has taken on a life of its own. View more here:

SIMPLY BIG BAND

A brand new production featuring the music and moves

from the golden age of Big Band.

Tickets are now on sale for SIMPLY BIG BAND a dazzling roller-coaster ride of a show, featuring the very best in American big band music, which is to tour the UK throughout 2010 and 2011, playing dates in London, Liverpool, Sheffield, Cardiff and Glasgow to name but a few.

From the raging razzmatazz of Harlem's Cotton Club in the 20s, to the halcyon post-war days of swing and Sinatra’s bobby-sox girls, and the glamorous glitz of Las Vegas in the swinging 60s, SIMPLY BIG BAND will take the audience back to when music meant magical songs, larger-than-life performers and legendary venues. You’ve seen Strictly Come Dancing on TV. Now, witness your favourite dances first hand on stage, take the chance to Jive, Salsa, Lindy Hop, Tap and Foxtrot along in the aisles to some of the most memorable music in history.

Comparing the evening and singing some of Ole Blue Eyes’ greatest hits, ‘Perfectly Frank’ star David Knopov is sure to blow even the most discerning Frank fan away with his realistic interpretation of one of the world’s greatest music stars. David recently performed his Frank Sinatra impersonation for the Queen.

The heartbeat of the night will be the wonderful big band itself, an electrifying 26-piece orchestra comprising some of the finest musicians in the land, the perfect complement for spine-tingling performances by a roster of top guest singers.

Featuring a selection of classic songs including ‘Take The ‘A’ Train’, ‘Georgia’, ‘Minnie The Moocher’, ‘It Don’t Mean A Thing’, ‘God Bless The Child’, ‘Sing Sing Sing’, ‘Manteca’,’ Let The Good Times Roll’, ‘Night Train’ and ‘Stardust’. SIMPLIY BIG BAND is the show that puts the ‘show’ into showbiz.

Backed by a tasty cocktail of tango, salsa, tap, foxtrot, lindy hop and jive dance routines from the ballroom, glittering costumes as sharp as a needle factory and classic archive big-screen footage from some of the most famous venues of the time, SIMPLY BIG BAND is the show that brings this truly golden era back to glorious life. The audience will be transported back to a pulsating musical period when immortals such as Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Frank Sinatra and Ray Charles ruled the boards, and legendary big band leaders such as Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington and Quincy Jones were the musical masters of their generation.

SIMPLY BIG BAND will have you clicking your fingers from the first beat, bopping in your seat by the interval and dancing in the aisles by the final encore.
