‘Southern make me feel as though they’re singing just to me, providing the soundtrack to my day as if they wrote these songs just for me to hear. It shouldn’t be long before the world is feeling just like this. Bringing ethereal pop soulful pop to the mainstream”

Gerry Anderson, BBC Radio Ulster

Southern are brother and sister Thom Southern and Lucy Southern, hailing from Belfast, they release their new single ‘Where the Wild Are’ on Monday 21st May.

Recorded at Liverpool’s infamous Parr Street Studios over three days in February, ‘Where the Wild Are’, is the culmination of tours and stints playing in bars and cafes in their native Belfast, to The Bluebird Café in Nashville, Chez Justine in Paris and demoing material at Berkley Street Studios, Santa Monica, LA. Honing their craft from years spent writing, recording and engineering their own material in both their bedroom back in Belfast and on the road.

Singer Izzy releases her new single He Said

We are proud to present to you 20 year old singer / songwriter Izzy, and her brand new debut single 'He Said'.

With no management or record deal in place, South London born Izzy has been working tirelessly with a select pool of producers, video directors and studios to create her debut works. Never afraid to experiment with a multitude of genres, Izzy has a simple yet profound explanation of her working methods. "My music is basically me hearing something in my head, and a producer hearing something in their head, us recording it and for some reason, it works", she says, "it always sounds different because it’s reflective of my mood and I enjoy trying out different genres and styles. Hopefully that means that there’s something for everyone in my music."

'He Said' is the debut single release from Izzy, and sees her accompany Enjay's RnB fused production with an inimitable vocal performance. Izzy is currently lining up the release of 4 independent EPs - all with accompanying singles - over the remainder of the year, meaning 'He Said' is very much the first page in this young artist's imminent story of success.

Age of Consent announce new single Heartbreak

Age of Consent

Age of Consent announce new single Heartbreak

released 11/6/2012

Heartbreak is the second single from experimental duo Age of Consent. Exploring the territory between pop music and something all together more strange.

Heartbreak is a dark, bittersweet, danceable track.

With a percussive Prince-like drum sound and skittering analogue synthesizers that fizz into forlorn, melodic vocals, Heartbreak is an after-dark hymn to a long-dead love affair. The song takes it’s inspiration from the death of loved ones and reimagines the loss as the harrowing end of a relationship.

Drawing upon a passion for brooding electronic music such as Fever Ray and Soft Cell, Age of Consent produced this single along with previous collaborator & producer, Luke Smith who has previously worked with Depeche Mode and Foals.  Including on the B-Side their metronomic cover version of Suicide's 'Ghost Rider', which has become something of a live favourite.
Age of Consent are Joe Reeves and Darren Cullen.  After meeting at Glasgow School of Art they moved to London to make music and produce remixes for the likes of La Roux, Gary Numan and The Toxic Avenger.  Their first single 'The Beach' was released in late 2011.

Age of Consent have confirmed two UK shows:
7th May - London, The Macbeth - w/ Trippple Nippples
13th June - London, The Macbeth - Single launch show - w/ T.W.I.N.S

Professor Penguin announce new single 'Pirate' and details of their debut album

We would love to introduce you to the new single 'Pirate' from the London-based nine-piece (yes, nine!) Professor Penguin.

'Pirate' will be released on 19th March 2012 and follows Professor Penguin’s debut single ‘Pilot’, which won widespread support at radio from Nick Grimshaw on BBC Radio One, Lauren Laverne, Radcliffe & Maconie, Steve Lamacq and Tom Robinson on BBC 6Music, Gary Crowley on BBC London, and John Kennedy’s XFM show where the track was playlisted as the “Xposure Big One”.

The band even picked up Brian Eno as a fan, who declared 'Pirate' a "Beautiful Piece" and played the track on a recent BBC 6Music appearance. Professor Penguin also performed an exciting series of sold out shows at London's Ronnie Scott's as part of their residency there in early 2012.

'Pirate' is the second single taken from Professor Penguin's debut album 'Planes', released on April 9th. It would be great to hear what you think to the track and if you would be up for reviewing the single or doing something more in-depth with the band.

Switchblade ft Top Boy Round Here release Here We Go

Switchblade ft Top Boy Round Here release Here We Go

Newcastle's first ever super group Top Boy Round Here team up with Nottingham emcee Switchblade to present their latest street single 'Here We Go'.

Comprised of Silvar Laidlow, Dap Ceo, Toni Mari and Jay Rockwell, Top Boy Round Here have spent the past 12 months touring, recording and building a nationwide fan base, becoming a major force in the UK urban music scene in the process.  Singer / emcee Silvar Laidlow initially made his name on the underground with the release of four critically acclaimed mixtapes, a transatlantic collaboration with US megastar The Game and performances alongside the likes of N-Dubz, Neyo, Chipmunk and Dizzee Rascal. His first taste of mainstream exposure came in 2010, when he touched the hearts of millions worldwide with his unforgettable performance of MAMA on Sky One's Must Be The Music. Dap CEO has cut his teeth as an emcee in a hugely fruitful career spanning almost 7 years, with collaborations alongside the likes of Lil Wayne, Professor Green & Shola Ama, and countless MTV Base / Channel AKA play list honours under his belt. The group's female member, Toni Mari, is undoubtedly one of the UK's most talented up and coming vocalists, having an impressive live touring portfolio including performances alongside the likes of Tinchy Stryder and Roll Deep. She even beat fellow North East native Cheryl Cole in a professional singing competition, leaving no doubt that she is a star in the making. Completing the Top Boy Round Here entourage is DJ Jay Rockwell, who has spun records all over the world, playing sets for superstars such as Usher, Justin Timberlake and Mariah Carey, as well as touring with the likes of Kanye West, The Fugees & Outkast.

The group's latest single, titled 'Here We Go', sees them collaborate with Switchblade (member of Nottingham based crew Landlordz and infamously known in the UK hip hop scene for his work alongside Giggs & SN1). Based around typically hefty production from Kimbo Hareez (D12, St Laz), the sure-to-be street anthem features composed, charismatic wordplay from the Top Boy collective and some seasoned hood lyricism from Switchblade. The single is accompanied by a cinematic visual courtesy of director Jamie Alderson, and marks the start of Top Boy Round Here's new online video series TBTV, which will see them drop a new video at 6pm every Tuesday for the foreseeable future.

Top Boy Round Here are also currently adding the finishing touches to their forthcoming rap tape 'The Blue Ribbon', which is hosted by legendary mixtape / radio DJ Whoo Kid and due for release in May 2012, making this a massively exciting year for the fast rising collective.

British singer Amy Steele releases collaboration with The Game

20 year old British singer / songwriter Amy Steele releases her brand new single 'Angel Fall', featuring west coast hip hop veteran Game.
Born and raised in London, UK, Amy decided to pursue her interest in music and began her career as a recording artist in 2009. Managed by her sister Nicole Steele, Amy has made massive strides towards international stardom in an incredibly short amount of time, and her immense vocal talent has already been recognised and developed by various established producers and songwriters in the US.
Amy is currently working with the likes of the Grammy award nominated producers Bei Maejor (J.Cole, Frank Ocean, Flo Rida, Tinie Tempah, Trey Songz), The Monsters (Big Sean, Pitbull, Rick Ross, Diddy Dirty Money) and The Futuristics (Chris Brown, Game, The Lonely Island), working towards the completion of her debut album which is due for release in 2012.
'Angel Fall' is the debut commercial single from Amy, and is an RnB tinged collaboration with multi-platinum LA rapper Game. Produced by The Futuristics, the single kicks off with an effortless verse from the Grammy Award winning rapper, before London born Amy takes over and delivers a silky vocal performance including a notably memorable chorus line.

“Snarling, sweaty, boisterously hurling expletives at you like great big lumps of molten rock… ridiculously appealing” Clash Music
“What’s a girl like me to expect from a Wet Nuns gig? I saw pictures of Terence crowd surfing on two people...” Toast Magazine

Kites release their first official single Brother on October 24th

Kites is a band composed of two classically-trained musicians (Jack & Jasper), a scholar of electronics (Richard), and a foppish pop-poet with a penchant for silk (Matthew), who are releasing their single ‘Brother’ in October this year.
In a recent interview, the Kites’ front man Matthew, who brings an air of Wildean decadence to the band, described their sound as: “Melodramatic provocation for discontented dreamers”.

Kites began writing tightly constructed tracks in 2010 that successfully blended synthetic textures with more organic instrumentation, creating a sound that was bold, affecting and ultimately irresistible. Their intensely physical and energetic stage shows have won them fans internationally and garnered comparisons to New Order, Patrick Wolf and Talking Heads from the mainstream music press.

Lead singer Matthew believes the band has many influences, but perhaps one of the most prominent influences stems right from his childhood:

My household was populated with black and white photographs of Jim Morrison in the crucifix pose.  Even as a toddler, I was seduced by his baritone timbre and assertive swagger.  I’m not sure why my parents thought it suitable to expose me to a renowned alcoholic with a well-publicised Oedipus complex, but I certainly found him influential.”
As well as having their own unique and captivating sound of electronic beddings with smatterings of guitar, Kites also have a strong sense of style. Even though Matthew is but a mere impoverished musician, he still manages to swagger around with panache in handouts, vintage outlets and sales racks. After all, as Matthew suggests: “Life is a stage and we are flowers to be looked at”. With his style icons including Sebastian Horsley, Sebastian Tellier and Anthony Andrews’ character Sebastian Flyte…  Essentially, anyone called Sebastian or anyone who looks good with a cane and a teddy bear… Matthew has all the makings of a true fashion and music pioneer and a 21st century Dandy.

The single ‘Brother’ is Kites’ first official single release. The track is a melancholy story of two brothers, whose fates are interwoven throughout the song in a tapestry of fear and hope. One brother is at the end of his journey; the other is only just embarking. Kites will also release the energetic ‘Art Taste Better Blind’ as the B side to this single and will be touring relentlessly throughout the rest of the year. Full gig listings below.

Wednesday 12 October Bloomsbury Lanes, London (Headline show)

Thursday 27 October Electricity Showrooms, London (Strangers Club)

What the critics have to say:

"Factory-indebted decadent disco." The Evening Standard

"Intensely physical and energetic live performances coupled with tightly constructed tracks have won the band an adoring fan base, a wave of industry attention... hailed as the hottest unsigned band in the UK.” Music Week

"I'm tipping Kites - think The Fall and New Order but a lot younger. I caught them the other night and they rocked. They're on tour at the moment so catch them if you can!"  The Sunday Mirror

"...ambition fuelled pop full of drama and excitement.... and dazzling beauty" Breaking Waves

"Kites are fast evolving into a band comprising all your favourite new wave/electro sounds in one... Wolfesque vocals... restrained synths and samples and the actual craft of songwriting and let’s not forget this, they look great."
Gill Mills (Best of Myspace)
