With new album Virtue picking up outstanding reviews, Emmy The Great heralds the start of an extensive UK tour with the release of a new single on September 19th.
Paper Forest (In the Afterglow of Rapture) Emmy explains, was inspired by the finale of a Patti Smith song which talks about being ‘blessed amongst all women’, and a classical quote, learned through Sylvia Plath, that 'character is fate'. These encapsulated her situation at the time – a period of security and engagement that she felt disconnected from, and thought that, through the quirks in her character, would self-destruct."
The follow up to her equally critically acclaimed debut First Love, Virtue began as a series of stories Emmy embarked on after the disintegration of her engagement - her fiancé left her for the church. Drawing on symbols borrowed from fairy tales and mythology, she added the icons that have replaced them in our modern consciousness to create a record that’s made her feel like a person and that she hopes will speak to others who’ve endured and survived.
Following a short tour earlier this year Emmy embarks on a 22-date excursion which includes a show at the London’s historic Cecil Sharp House in Camden. Tickets are on sale now and available via ticket links listed.
