Big Country replace Ali Campbell on "Rewind Scotland" festival line-up
REWIND SCOTLAND – The 80s Festival, which takes place between July 20th and 22nd at Scone Palace, Perthshire, have today confirmed that Ali Campbell will no longer perform at this year’s festival.
Campbell has issued the following statement; “I am sorry not to be able to make Rewind in Scotland, but unfortunately due to an international TV commitment I have had to reschedule. I played Rewind Henley in 2011 and had a great time; hopefully I can make Scotland next year and hope you all have a great festival.”
Replacing Ali Campbell on the bill will be post-punk legends BIG COUNTRY, who emerged from Scotland in the early 80’s with one of the most distinctive rock sounds ever produced. They will perform the classic singles “In A Big Country”, ”Chance”, ”Wonderland”, ”Look Away” and “King Of Emotion”, taken from their gold and platinum selling albums “The Crossing”, ”Steeltown”, ”The Seer” and “Peace In Our Time”. The unmistakable Celtic-rock sound of Stuart Adamson and Bruce Watson's dual guitars, combined with Tony Butler and Mark Brzezicki's driving rhythm section evoked epic landscapes and, aided by a series of hugely memorable singles, took them to the top of the UK charts.
Now approaching their 30th anniversary, BIG COUNTRY not only embraced their illustrious past when performing at UK festivals last year, but honoured the life and times of original lead singer, guitarist and co-founder Stuart Adamson, who passed away so tragically in 2001. Taking on the role of lead singer is Mike Peters (of fellow Celtic rockers The Alarm) who, along with guitarist Jamie Watson (son of Bruce), continues the twin guitar feature the band were known so well for.
Due to the outstanding success of the first “Rewind Scotland” in 2011, the festival returns to Scone Palace for the second time in July 2012. As with last year’s unforgettable concert performances and festivities, this year’s Rewind Scotland boasts another massive outdoor line-up of the crème de la crème of 80s recording artists/performers. In addition to the newly announced Big Country, Saturday 21st July will see Average White Band, Jimmy Somerville, Midge Ure, Five Star, Go West, Sinitta, Chesney Hawkes, Katrina (ex-Katrina and the Waves), Limahl, Right Said Fred, and Les McKeown’s Legendary Bay City Rollers take the stage.
Sunday 22nd July will feature Holly Johnson, Village People, Lightning Seeds, Marc Almond, ABC, Roland Gift, The Straits, Wang Chung, John Parr, Altered Images, The Christians and very special guest, Adam Ant and The Good, The Mad and The Lovely Posse.
