MusicMafia presents Floodliners

It's very rare that you'll be bowled over by an indie band that's too young to legally drink at the bar they're playing at. Floodliners are a five-piece indie crossover band from South London who, despite all being aged between 15 and 17, have been making some serious waves on the scene.

Led by three girls with some serious attitude, Floodliners music quickly snowballs between indie, hip-hop and electronic very quickly, creating a somewhat original sound coupled with an equally aggressive style.

Dr Martens, Creepers, safety pins, denim shorts, glow-sticks and undercuts are just a few of the trademarks of the band that make them stand apart on the stage.

In March they beat 35,000 contestants to win the PRS Songwriting Prize as part of the Next Brit Thing Awards gaining the attention of the likes of The Sun, The Evening Standard and Music Week among others.

They have an ability to write songs that stick very quickly with an NERD-style backing.

Having just released a live-video for their new song 'U Can't Afford It' the catchy lyricism is remarkably present and the hip-hop-esque lyrics:

"VAT cause you know we can't afford it, Macbook Pro cause you know we can't afford it, skin-flat broke cause you know we can't afford it." You get the gist of it.

It's a track that, without delving too deeply into the current economic landscape, seems to perfectly reflect the feelings of what's being described as 'the lost generation.'

But having signed to SE13 Records it may be hard to feel sorry for this band, they have a unique edge and the track is also laced with a wonderfully whining synth sound that gives a raw track a commercial edge that's granted them stage-space with the likes of Stooshe and Pixie Lott, and messages of support from Ed Sheeran and Divinity Roxx.

The band are currently finishing up their debut album and host a quarterly underage festival called ‘Overload’ at the Amersham Arms in New Cross.
