Pink Named the 2013 Billboard Women Of The Year
Billboard announced today that Grammy Award-winning artist P!nk will accept its coveted Woman of the Year Award at the 2013 Billboard Women in Music event, sponsored by COVERGIRL and City National Bank, taking place Dec. 10 in New York City. This award honors the achievements of a trailblazing female recording artist over the past 12 months, and acknowledges her overall success in the music business and her leadership in embracing the changing industry.
"I was absolutely shocked and surprised to hear that Billboard named me Woman of the Year,” says P!nk. “It's been an incredible year and I feel so grateful to radio for sticking by me, and to the fans and friends and all of the incredible talent that I was fortunate enough to work with for this album.”
P!nk is currently on her acclaimed, sold-out tour, THE TRUTH ABOUT LOVE TOUR, presented by COVERGIRL, which has now been extended to a total of 140 shows worldwide due to overwhelming demand. She kicked off her North American tour on February 13 in support of her most recent album, The Truth About Love, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 as well as in six other countries. The Platinum-selling album marks P!nk’s first No. 1 in the U.S., and was nominated for a 2013 Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album. The Truth About Love has already generated four smash singles including “Blow Me (One Last Kiss),” “Try” and “Just Give Me A Reason” featuring Nate Ruess and “True Love,” featuring Lily Allen. “Just Give Me a Reason” became P!nk’s fourth No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Since her debut in 2000, P!nk (Alecia Moore) has released seven albums (Can’t Take Me Home, M!ssundaztood, Try This, I’m Not Dead, Funhouse, Greatest Hits So Far!!!, The Truth About Love), sold over 40 million albums, 65 million singles (nearly 20 million digital tracks), over 1 million DVDs worldwide and has had 14 singles in the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart (four at No. 1 ). In addition, 15 of P!nk’s singles have reached No. 1 in at least one or more countries. She has also been the recipient of 50 music awards throughout her exceptional career, including three Grammy Awards and two Billboard Music Awards.
"P!nk has almost been in a class by herself among women in music this year, and we’re thrilled to recognize her successes by honoring her with the Billboard Woman of the Year Award," says Bill Werde, Billboard’s Editorial Director. "When our 2013 mid-year numbers were released, she had the top-selling album and song for a woman, and a blockbuster, sold-out, international arena tour. Earlier this year, "Just Give Me a Reason," topped the Billboard Hot 100, extending her amazingly consistent chart success which dates back to her arrival in 2000. Combine all of this with a spirit that inspires fans of every stripe, and you arrive at the remarkable package that is P!nk. She will undoubtedly continue to accomplish great milestones in the years to come."
The Billboard Women in Music event celebrates the most powerful and talented women in music. The event is also held in conjunction with the much-anticipated publication of Billboard’s Women in Music Power Players list, which recognizes the top female music executives who are leading the industry with their artistic and business vision.
