The Robert Castelli Boom Quartet perform at The Capstone Liverpool
On Thursday 3rd October, Parrjazz will present an evening with American drummer/composer Robert Castelli and his all-star Boom Quartet. Liverpool’s Capstone Theatre is the venue of choice for what will surely be an explosive and exhilarating show; merging Big Apple street funk with influences from Latin, Brazilian, and African and Eastern music in a truly original way.
The son of a drummer, as well as the grandson and nephew of drummers, Robert Castelli´s interest in music and drumming began at a very early age. Over the years he has studied with some of the most well-known drummers in New York and the world including, Gary Chester, Kim Plainfield, Ed Soph, Tony “Thunder” Smith, Robbie Gonzalez, and Joe Ascione. His playing has been written about in The NY Times online, Cadence Magazine, Jazz Halo Belgium and Drums and Percussion Germany. His recordings as a leader have received critical acclaim from some of the most widely read magazines and websites in The U.S.A, U.K. and Europe including Jazzwise Magazine London, Drummer Magazine UK, The Jazzman web site and Time Out London.
Known for his “get-down, get-greasy and get-dirty music that's still delivered with finesse and invention” (John Kelman, www.allaboutjazz.com (Canada)) Robert’s collaborators for this project include Brandon Allen on sax; Nick Kacal on bass and Roland Stonek on guitar, and between them they have worked with some of the most iconic names in music today including Eric Clapton, Jools Holland, Soweto Kinch, Baaba Maal, Zoe Rahman, Andy Sheppard, Gilad Atzmon, Asaf Sirkis and Mark Lockheart.
A workshop will be taking place from 3-5pm on the afternoon of the concert at The Capstone Theatre where fledgling musicians can receive expert advice on how to improve their ensemble and improvisation techniques from Robert and his band!
