MusicMafia presents Ric Birtill

Ric Birtill’s deeply personal song writing has many tongue-in-cheek moments alongside macabre themes and innovative string playing; a strong performer who lives to draw the listener into his own lovesick universe. Songs encompass such matters as being asked to change parking spaces, the soul destroying nature of working in customer service and, written shortly after, being unemployed and ‘signing on’ at the Job Centre.

It’s on the live circuit that Ric Birtill's reputation has been built. Ric has appeared at festivals country wide including T in The Park, Solfest, Brampton, Hebden Bridge Folk Roots, Musicport and Kendal Calling ... He has been main support to the likes of Jeffrey Lewis, Pat Sansone (Wilco), Ade Edmondson and Adam Green.

In 2013 Ric released his first EP ‘The Preston EP’.Ric Birtill has released it on his own label - Friargate Records, named after Friargate in Preston (where he used to live above a shop called rags in a dirty room with no heating, electricity and no bed; this is where he wrote most of the songs from the Preston EP.).

Since its release in late June ‘The Preston EP’ has had great reviews and since uploading it to band – camp as a free download it has received very generous donations from people who don’t feel comfortable “getting something this good for free”. The EP has also received coverage through various regional newspapers.

One of Ric Birtill’s biggest fans is the commissioned artist Sue Campion and recently since releasing ‘The Preston EP’ Ric was invited to play at her 70th Birtill fan base was another artist called Claire Eastgate whose work has been commissioned and bought by the royal family!

In addition to this Ric Birtill has completed a tour of Germany in November 2013 and a nationwide tour of the UK in support of ‘The Preston EP’ (completed in March 2014). Part of this tour included a sold out show supporting the cast of TV’S ‘Red Dwarf’.

Ric Birtill is currently recording his first single with Roo Walker. Roo Walker is a session musician from Chorley who is currently writing for Gary Barlow and sessions for Janet  Devlin (x factor). This single will be for his forthcoming concept album which will be released later this year.
