23rd June 2014 will see pop-punk newbies Trash Boat unveil their debut release, 4 track EP 'Look Alive'. Until then, they are treating you to a free download of lead single 'Boneless', which you can get your mitts on here:  https://trashboatuk.bandcamp.com/

I’m not really sure why pop punk is back,” muses Oakley Moffatt, drummer of St Albans newcomers Trash Boat, on the seismic revival of rock’s sunni-est subset. “Personally, I’m very happy to see it make a comeback - I grew up listening to Blink-182 and Sum 41, and today’s new wave of bands is awesome. I guess people just missed it!

One of the newest arrivals in an ever busying national pop punk scene, a movement which has already birthed international contenders in Neck Deep and Gnarwolves, Trash Boat (named after an episode of Regular Show) have wasted little time in getting their act together, literally. Though only officially founded at the start of 2014, the quintet - completed by vo-calist Tobi Duncan, guitarists Dann Bostock and Ryan Hyslop, and bassist James Grayson - have already played their first shows and recorded their debut E.P, ‘Look Alive’.

I’m really proud of this EP,” enthuses vocalist Tobi; “I’ve been in so many bands and had loads of fun along the way, but they all faded away for one reason or another, so I’m happy that I’ve finally found a group of talented dudes to write, record and perform with.”

Bursting with buoyant guitar licks and the kind of vocal melodies you only need to hear once before they’re imprinted on your temporal lobe, ‘Look Alive’ is a formidable first strike from Trash Boat’s arsenal. “We worked through a lot of ideas during the writing process for the EP,” recalls Oakley; “We had about ten songs to choose from in the end, and we’re very happy with the outcome of the four tracks we chose. Through all our disagreements and clashes of ideas we’ve managed to produce something that can cater to a few different tastes but still sound consistent.”

Lyrically ‘Look Alive’ is largely a work of personal catharsis for frontman Tobi Duncan, who spent the two years prior to Trash Boat’s formation in recovery from multiple surgeries. “I met the guys and started writing after a pretty rough time in my life,” recalls the vocalist; “I was in great spirits while writing the album so none of it came from sadness or regret. I’m thankful for everything that happened cos it made me who I am, and I’m pretty hap-py with that. It was kinda fun to reflect and write about it all. But, I don’t think I can write a lot more about the past - I don’t want to dwell on it. I want to start writing about the present, and issues that surround us.”

Here’s to the future then; if ‘Look Alive’ is anything to go by, Trash Boat’s will be a bright one.
