Open'er festival Announces Chromeo, Jagwar Ma, Royal Blood for 2014

Poland's Finest Music Festival Open'er Announces Chromeo, Jagwar Ma, Royal Blood and Further Acts for 2014

Chromeo

Three years ago, Chromeo closed the jubilee Open'er Festival edition with an enormous party on the Tent Stage. This year, they make their return to Gdynia with the new album "White Women" in tow. Guests on their new album include Solange, Ezra of Vampire Weekend and Toro y Moi. With hits the likes of "Tenderoni" or "Don't Turn the Lights On", expect one of the most energetic and dance-worthy sets of the festival.

Maya Jane Coles

Since storming onto the scene in 2010 Maya Jane Coles has established herself as one of the most acclaimed female DJs and producers in the world.  She made her own compilation in the prestigious "Fabric" series, putting her name to its celebratory 75th edition as well as celebrated releases for !K7 Records and a stunning Boiler Room set. Last year, she released her debut album "Comfort", giving her fans a solid dose of deep house - the genre in which she feels most comfortable. Maya Jane Coles plays the Beat Stage on July 3.

MØ

Karen Marie Ørsted goes in the business by the name MØ.  Combining her childhood fascination with Spice Girls pop and alternative bands the likes of Sonic Youth, Black Flag and Yeah Yeah Yeahs she has positioned herself alongside fellow Scandinavian and this year's Open’er artist Lykke Li, as well as Lana del Rey and Grimes as one of the most exciting female artists around. After touring the entire world with an electro-punk band, she decided to follow her own path towards electronica. Having earned support from the likes of Avicii and Major Lazer, whom she accompanied on tour, her singles, the swinging "Don't Wanna Dance" and Diplo-produced, danceable "XXX 88" preceded her critically acclaimed debut album "No Mythologies To Follow", released in March 2014. Already famous for her energetic live shows, MØ will perform one of them, her first ever one in Poland, at Open’er Festival.

Royal Blood

Could a band's career start with a t-shirt? Sure, if an Arctic Monkey wears it onstage at Glastonbury Festival. Royal Blood first came to the music fans' attention thanks to Monkeys' drummer Matt Helders T-shirt choice. If you wanted to dig deeper, you could find out that Royal Blood hail from Brighton, are a rhythm section duo (just bass and drums). They were listed for BBC Sound Of 2014, were confirmed as the support act during the Arctic Monkeys' two massive gigs in London's Finsbury Park, did a solo tour of the UK and are currently recording their debut album for Warner Music. A few months ago, a reviewer with The Guardian predicted they were going to “blow away festival crowds next summer.” We’ll find out about that at Open’er!

Jagwar Ma

Having come together in Sydney when Jono Ma and Gabriel Winterfield bonded over a mutual passion of melody and experimental beats, everyone who listened to their first album, "Howlin", knows that over a few years of their activity, Jagwar Ma have continued to grow in both of these areas. Released last summer, "Howlin'" is a trip through Australian beaches, Berlin clubs and French sunflower fields, psychedelic enough to suspect that what fuelled it might not've been entirely legal. Jagwar Ma have quickly scored a status of one of the best debuts of 2013, jumped onto the bandwagon with The xx and Foals, confirming their class this year at numerous festivals. They perform on Open’er’s ALTER STAGE.

First Non-US Jack White Show Announced For Open'er 2014

Jack White Show Open'er 2014

First Non-US Jack White Show Announced For Open'er 2014

A one-man institution on the global music scene and truly a performer, songwriter and producer who has never steered his audience wrong. Having recorded a Bond theme and founded his Third Man Records label hosting a variety of artists from Beck to Tom Jones and Conan O’Brien, Jack White is the next Open’er Festival 2014 headliner!

Having originally started his musical journey playing the drums Jack White became one of the most remarkable guitarists of his generation, complimented by the greatest guitar virtuosos. Having formed The White Stripes in 1997, the duo featuring Jack and his then wife Meg created some of the most influential rock albums ever.

The White Stripes went on hiatus in 2011, yet White has kept busy with myriad other projects including his two other bands; classic rock quartet The Raconteurs and hard-rock supergroup The Dead Weather, featuring Alison Mosshart of The Kills, QOTSA's Dean Fertita and Jack Lawrence of The Raconteurs. Ever the prolific musician it was only a matter of time before another solo release.

"Blunderbuss" was released nearly two years ago on XL Recordings and quickly flew up the charts. White's work as a solo artist confirmed his great talent and sealed his status as the modern godfather of America’s alternative rock scene. Over the years, he wouldn't leave the studio, both as a leader of his own projects and a renowned producer. His dossier includes albums by Loretta Lynn and Wanda Jackson as well as via his label becoming an ambassador for Record Store Day.

Now, White opens a new chapter. Little is known so far about "Lazaretto", announced less than 24 hours ago, but we can already expect a successful return, backed up with a short tour. Polish fans are one of the few lucky ones to be a part of it. Open’er is proud to be the first European festival to announce Jack White performing this year.

Ben Howard, Lykke Li, Wild Beasts and Banks for Open'er 2014

Ben Howard, Lykke Li, Wild Beasts and Banks for Open'er 2014

Ben Howard, Lykke Li, Wild Beasts and Banks for Open'er 2014

Joining Open'er today is songstress Lykke Li with her first major performance in Poland, reinvention mavericks Wild Beasts with their new album already being deemed one of most important rock releases this year and newcomer BANKS who is sure to be a breakout artist in 2014!

Lykke Li

Polish Lykke Li fans are in luck this year. First of all, Lykke Li's third album "I Never Learn" is coming out on May 5th. Secondly, the magical songstress visits Gdynia for her first major performance on July 4 at Open’er! Together with Björn Yttling, Greg Kurstin, for the first time Lykke handled production duties on the new record. “I Never Learn" is the third album in the trilogy that began with the much loved “Youth Novels” and “Wounded Rhymes”. As the European Festival Awards winner for Festival Anthem "I Follow Rivers", Lykke Li delivers an absolutely unforgettable live experience.

Wild Beasts

Wild Beasts are more of a band than most bands. It's weird, because they've spent their career trying to escape the constraints of what is expected from four lads playing together, more than ever on the deliberately synthetic, instrument-swapping Present Tense. Longer in creation than any of its predecessors, Hayden Thorpe, Tom Fleming, Chris Talbot and Ben Little took almost a full year away from touring to conceive and construct the eleven tracks. The band worked in close collaboration with co-producers Lexxx and Brian Eno protégé Leo Abrahams to create a record of astounding intricacy, coherence and emotional resonance. With this new material, they return to Open'er.

Ben Howard

He won the two 2013 Brit Awards he was nominated for: Best British Breakthrough Act and British Solo Male Artist. He embodies the spirit of the Here and Now, so the newly conceived stage at Open’er will be a perfect spot for his performance on July 4th! A young acoustic troubadour, Howard will make you feel as though he is the first young acoustic troubadour you have ever heard, making it all seem brand new even though his songs have wisdom and a rootsy authenticity as old as the hills.

BANKS

Some things don’t need to be defined, some aren’t meant to be in a box, held in proverbial captivity. They inherently defy a need for classification. BANKS makes music. Great music. Why not just stop there? Allow her to be a siren for a generation, beckoning for self discovery. She begs for it. Conveying her sound seems almost unfair, it’s built on a simple notion of emotion. Perhaps that explains the near explosion of eager fans frantic to share their own discovery, ultimately propelling this songstress’ art to the top of the Hype Machine charts. The EP "London" offers a peek into her world, with a full debut album out this June.

Haim, Interpol and Darkside for Open'er Festival 2014

Haim, Interpol and Darkside for Open'er Festival 2014

Haim, Interpol and Darkside for Open'er Festival 2014

Today's Open'er additions take us to the stages of New York and sunny California. Open'er 2014, will bear witness to a stunning performance from the cutting-edge rock-electronica act DARKSIDE, a return in style from the legendary post-punk trio INTERPOL, and the quintessential sound of now, HAIM!

Interpol

Fortunately, 2014 sees the return of this New York postpunk trio, creators of possibly the albums of the early 2000’s  – the highly acclaimed Turn On The Bright Lights and Antics. Powerful and affecting, their masterful command of pace, atmosphere, and reverb-drenched guitar mark them out as very special indeed. No-one does fragile aggression and melancholy quite as dramatically and their upcoming fifth album will cement Interpol’s status as one of the millennium’s best bands.

Haim

Hailing from the San Fernando Valley, HAIM consists of three sisters, like Tchekov's play. Music is truly a family affair for the band: the sisters, Este, Danielle, and Alana Haim, grew up playing classic rock songs with their parents in a family band, aptly called "Rockinhaim." Then the girls decided to strike out on their own and began writing their own material. In their music, critics often hear echoes of Fleetwood Mac and 90s all-female bands like En Vogue and TLC. Their debut full-length Days Are Gone charted at #1 in the UK, earning the record gold status. In 2013, the band performed at Glastonbury Festival and many more, also earning the title of BBC Sound of 2013.

Darkside

DARKSIDE is the collaborative duo of guitarist Dave Harrington and electronic producer Nicolas Jaar.  They summon a hybrid of electronic music and psychedelic rock with the kind of artistic depth and breadth for which the term “progressive” was coined. In the autumn of 2013 they unveiled their debut full length, Psychic, via Jaar’s own Other People label. DARKSIDE aren't dancefloor producers taking a stab at rock music; nor are they a rock band paying homage to their new favorite techno 12inches. They're deep listeners and creators of both who see little need for distinction between their favorite sounds.

Daughter, Warpain and Bastille for Open'er 2014

Daughter, Warpain and Bastille for Open'er 2014

Daughter, Warpain and Bastille for Open'er 2014

Daughter

Starting life in 2010 as an outlet for the musings of Elena and Igor, then fellow class-mates studying music in college, they soon gained attention with their self-released four-track EP, "His Young Heart", in April 2011, and the Communion Records sanctioned "The Wild Youth EP”. 2013 marked the release of their debut album, the much anticipated "If You Leave", a record that left many a fan and critic spellbound; "Word-in-the-ear intimate and mountain-range massive" (The Fly), "Staggeringly beautiful from beginning to close, a catharsis that’s both bracing and woozily amniotic" (The Line of Best Fit), "An album beautifully conceived as you follow from start to finish, riveted by the story it weaves and the emotion it bleeds" (Drowned In Sound).

Warpaint

Warpaint weave intricate guitar lines, hypnotic vocals and driving post punk rhythms into gorgeous, sprawling songs that skirt the line between psychedelia and intimacy. Both live and on record, Warpaint sound like they’re channeling something truly otherworldly, and mystical. The all-girl quartet from Los Angeles has toured incessantly over the last couple of years, sharing the stage with The xx, Band of Horses, Yeasayer, Akron Family, Javelin, and The Walkmen. They just released their critically-acclaimed sophomore album, 'Warpaint'.

Bastille

The word Bastille brings to mind revolution, change and the storming of the old by the spirit of the new. When London-based singer/songwriter Dan Smith called his band Bastille, he was merely thinking of his birthday, July 14, France’s Bastille Day. But for the biggest selling new British act of the last year this seems an ominously apt metaphor for their dramatic impact. The anthemic ‘Pompeii’, charted at number two and went on to become the second most streamed track of 2013, just behind Daft Punk’s ‘Get Lucky’. The album, Bad Blood, followed, smashing in at number one and quickly achieving platinum status in the UK. The most downloaded album of 2013, and the second most-streamed, it’s since sold over 2 million copies worldwide. So far, the new year has seen them nominated for four BRIT Awards (British Breakthrough Act, British Group, British Album and Best Single for ‘Pompeii’).

MGMT, Foals, Rudimental and Julio Bashmore added to Open'er Line up

MGMT, Foals, Rudimental and Julio Bashmore added to Open'er Line up

MGMT, Foals, Rudimental and Julio Bashmore added to Open'er Line up

Joining the Open'er line-up are the ever exciting, live champions Foals and the UK’s premier live dance act  - Rudimental. The new electronic Beat Stage will also have its inaugural year, hosting only the best in international talent with Julio Bashmore as the first DJ/producer for the lineup.

Foals

A sold-out concert and their reputation for an ever exciting live show meant that Foals simply had to return to Open’er festival. The band came onto the UK musical scene in 2007, when they met David Sitek, the founder member of TV On The Radio, which led to him producing their debut album “Antidotes". On 2010’s “Total Life Forever”, the band moved in a different direction, this also marks the first occasion that they brought their tunes to their Polish fans at Open'er 2011, playing a show so intense that the guitarist's fingers started to bleed. In October 2012, Yannis Philippakis, Jack Bevan, Jimmy Smith, Walter Gervers and Edwin Congreave announed the title of their following release.  "Holy Fire” which was released early last year. With its release, NME announced that  "the Oxford art-rockers cast off their spiky, mathletic shackles and head for the big league", and The Line of Best Fit simply called it Foals' "masterpiece".

Rudimental

There's a strong history of the studio pioneers of British dance music becoming household names in Poland; from Basement Jaxx to Groove Armada, Massive Attack to Chase & Status. The hottest new collective making their mark are the East London quartet Rudimental. With support coming from the likes of Zane Lowe, The XX, Mistajam and Fearne Cotton, they're set to dominate dancefloors and airwaves in the coming months. Adding to that, Rudimental have been nominated for three awards at this year’s Brit Awards: Mastercard British Album of the Year, British Single – „Waiting All Night” feat. Ella Eyre, and British Group. Their debut “Home” went platinum in the UK. It comprises songwriters and producers Piers Agget, Kesi Dryden and Amir Amor, together with DJ Locksmith. Rudimental play the newly founded Here and Now Stage.

Julio Bashmore

Julio may have appeared to have burst onto the scene in late 2009, but the lead up to his eponymous EP for Claude VonStroke's highly influential Dirtybird label was essentially a lifetime in the making. Over the next three years, he rounded off a string of stellar EPs and singles on an array of labels. His vital eclecticism was showcased in his mighty contribution to the Essential Mix series on BBC Radio 1 at the end of the year. Bounce to blissed-out Garage of "Footsteppin", lose your mind to his Mosca remix, or turn out the lights for "Batak Groove" and you'll realise, simply, that it's just something you feel. He did 3 cuts on Jessie Ware’s debut album, including ‘Running’ and ‘110%’, and Ware returned the favour with guest vocals on a version of “Peppermint”. With fresh music for his newly imprinted label Broadwalk Records and a debut album coming in the next months, this might be the most incredible year for him.

Pearl Jam confirmed as second headliner for Open'er festival

Pearl Jam confirmed as second headliner for Open'er festival

Pearl Jam confirmed as second headliner for Open'er festival

Open'er is proud to announce that it's second headliner for 2014 is Pearl Jam.  The rock music legends will join fellow headliners The Black Keys in Gydnia, Poland at one of Europe's best music festivals in July.  Pusha T has also been confirmed for the festival.

Pearl Jam announced today that they will embark on an eleven-date European tour in June and July of 2014. The band's summer tour kicks off on June 16th in Amsterdam, NL, and wraps up on July 11th in Milton Keynes, UK, including just two festival headlining slots (including Open'er Festival on July 3rd).

Pearl Jam released their much-anticipated tenth studio album, Lightning Bolt, on Monkeywrench Records/Republic Records on October 15, 2013 in the United States. Internationally, the album was released on October 14, 2013 and distributed by Universal Music Group International. Produced by Brendan O’Brien, Lightning Bolt marks Pearl Jam’s first studio album since the highly acclaimed Backspacer, which was released in September of 2009.

Lightning Bolt debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 chart as well as #1 on iTunes in over 50 countries. The album is available now at www.pearljam.com, via iTunes and all major retailers.

In 1991, Pearl Jam's debut album, Ten, catapulted the little-known Seattle-based band into superstardom. Ten studio albums, hundreds of unique live performances and hundreds of official live concert bootleg releases later, the band continue to be critically acclaimed and commercially successful -- with over 60 million albums sold worldwide.

Over the past twenty-two years, the band has remained a major force in rock and roll, as much for its aggressive loyalty to its social and political principles and restless experimentation as for its rock radio staples and best selling albums.

In 2011, Pearl Jam celebrated their 20-year anniversary with a destination weekend in Alpine Valley, WI and toured Canada, South America, Central America, and Mexico. The band also released the film Pearl Jam Twenty along with an accompanying book and soundtrack as part of the anniversary celebration.

Black Keys Confirmed As First Open'er Headliner For 2014

The Black Keys have been announced as the first headliner of the Open'er festival in 2014. The band have sold millions of records worldwide, scoring as many as 7 Grammy Awards, yet remaining true to their alternative sound.

Their line-up might be minimal, but their impact is immense. Like no other, The Black Keys can revive classic genres: rockabilly, glam, surf and more, and are still working for the fame of bluesy, Americana-influenced rock. They've been on a roll since 2010. Their breakthrough 5th album debuted as #2 in the US and went on to win three Grammy Awards , bringing hit singles "Tighten Up” and "Howlin' For You”.

Following this the Dan Auerbach- Patrick Carney- producer Danger Mouse co-op entered Auerbach's Nashville studio to work on "El Camino". The release's lead single, the anthemic "Lonely Boy", brought the band more Grammy awards, this time for Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song. "El Camino" landed the Best Rock Album title, while the record's co-producer Auerbach became Producer Of The Year, Non-Classical.

The accompanying tour led through the world's biggest arenas, like New York's Madison Square Garden. Tickets to that show sold out in just 15 minutes. We are sure that this performance, inaugurating Open’er Festival and being their first ever in Poland, will be a real treat for good music lovers.
