Monday 9th January 2012: Brooklyn based Indie-Pop quartet The Pains of Being Pure at Heart have announced an exclusive one-off UK gig at O2 Islington Academy, Londonon Thursday 8th March 2012.
The Pains of Being Pure of Heart will be hitting the Capital with a sound that has received critical acclaim from both sides of the Atlantic. Since their self-titled debut album was endorsed in 2009 as one of NME’s Top 50 Albums, The Pains have created an intensely loyal underground fan base with their heavenly guitar sounds and lyrics inspired by indie-pop bands of the late ‘80s/early ‘90s.
Having come a long way since 2009 and quickly establishing themselves as one to watch on the Indie scene, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart will delight fans at O2Academy Islington in March, after a two month tour of the US.
Their 2011 follow-up album, ‘Belong’ (March 2011), was produced by Grammy award winning ‘Flood’ (Depeche Mode, U2) and alternative-rock royalty, Alan Moulder(Smashing Pumpkins, Jesus and Mary Chain, Ride) and undoubtedly wears its heart on its sleeve. From the opening explosions of electric guitar on "Belong" ("We just don't...")and the sumptuously synthetic dance pop perfection of "The Body" to the prom-in-heaven chorus of "Even in Dreams" and the closing moments of the uncommonly sincere and affecting "Strange"("…our dreams are coming true"), the answer is an unqualified, resounding (and damn good sounding) "YES."
Belong's strength is the quality of the song-writing and each songs ability to sound distinct from one another while still holding together as a unified record from start to finish.
Singer/Guitarist Kip Berman believes that their second album is bigger and better than their widely acclaimed debut. He describes it as: "More immediate, more noisy, more beautiful. We never stopped believing in noise and pop, but now we've pushed both further. Compared to the last record, It's far more visceral, more vital, more of the body. It's about feeling, not feelings."
“An album that stands up to the touchstone indie classics it references” – **** Mojo
“A beautifully loud extension of their debut” – **** The Fly
“It’s the first summer album of the year, and quite possibly the best” – Loud and Quiet
“Belong is a bigger, bolder, and brighter follow-up that adds new dimensions to the Pains' sound” – Pitchfork, 8.2, Best New Music

This one-off, UK gig is not to be missed.
