Putting pen to paper at the age of 10, allowed Boney Black to escape the harsh realities of growing up in the roughest Areas in London. The St.Lucian born rapper began writing his own lyrics to escape the social pressures and in turn avoided a life of crime. In order to seek a better life from the constant reminders of his fellow friends and family who caught the wrong side of the law, Boney Black moved to Preston.
Once he was settled in Preston, Boney Black set up a crew of emcees called N.W.S to rival the dominate crew called Triple C. But it was here that Boney would again have to make an unexpected decision to seek a better life. The constant fights and rivalry between the two crews encouraged Boney Black to strive to become an international musician; on his own.
In small steps, Boney Black got a supporting slot at the Preston Carnival in 2007 alongside the platinum selling group N-Dubz. It was a valuable experience that only brought on more opportunities. Since then he has returned to Preston Carnival, performed at Manchester Moss Side Carnival, Preston Arts Festival, Preston Fringe Festival, Camden Unplugged part 2 & 4, I Luv Live, Moonlighting Club, the Lave and BBC introducing Stage at Leeds and the 2009 Reading Festival; alongside acts such as Chipmunk, Kings of Leon, Radio head and the Arctic Monkeys.
Boney black’s determination and persistence has given him the opportunity to feature on BBC Radio 1 (with Zane Lowe, Scott Mills, Jo Whiley, Huw Stephens and Vernon Kay), BBC 1xtra Homegrown Talent Show with DJ Target, QtheMusic, Route Note, The Telegraph, Channel AKA, KiX Magazine, Best of Myspace, XYZ and Raw Magazine.
