Eighties rockers Then Jerico have announced a reunion tour with all original band members for September 2012 to mark the 25th anniversary and digital re-release of their debut album ‘First (The Sound of Music)’ (1987) (Rhino – Warner Music).
Lead vocalist Mark Shaw, drummer Steve Wren, guitarist Rob Downes, bassist Jasper Stainthorpe, guitarist Scott Taylor are coming together for a series of eight shows at O2 Academy venues across the country and will perform ‘The Big Area’ in its entirely as well as selected tracks from ‘First’. The tour will culminate in a London show at O2 Academy Islington on Saturday 29th September 2012.
“I’m really excited to be going out on tour with the guys again after so many years. We’ll be playing songs that we put so much into writing and recording, they’re a big part of our lives and of other people’s too. It will be great to reconnect with our fans who have been so loyal and perform the songs they are dying to hear. The show will be in two parts, the first half featuring tracks from our first album and later on, the whole of The Big Area!” (Mark Shaw)
Then Jerico first found fame in 1986 with the release of their debut album ‘First (The Sound Of Music)’. The record featured hit singles ‘Muscle Deep’ and ‘The Motive’ which remained in the UK Top 40 chart for three months, becoming the most-played record on BBC Radio 1 in 1987. The track brought Then Jerico worldwide recognition and saw them selling-out headline shows along with support tours with Iggy Pop and Propaganda, amongst others.
Their follow-up album, ‘The Big Area’, cemented their status as one of the greatest bands of the 1980s. Selling over 100,000 copies within the first 40 minutes of its release, ‘The Big Area’ immediately attaining Gold status and consequently reached Platinum sales.
In recent years, Mark Shaw has enjoyed a successful solo career, releasing two solo albums (EMI and Eagle Rock) and has branched into film and stage acting. As a member of the SAS Band, Mark has also performed in L.A., Tokyo, New Orleans and Scandinavia alongside Tony Hadley, Paul Young, Fish, Roger Taylor and Brian May of Queen. Mark also headlines monthly club night ‘The Kitsch Lounge Riot’ in London’s West End and is currently in the studio writing new material.
