Gerry Anderson, BBC Radio Ulster
Southern are brother and sister Thom Southern and Lucy Southern, hailing from Belfast, they release their new single ‘Where the Wild Are’ on Monday 21st May.
Recorded at Liverpool’s infamous Parr Street Studios over three days in February, ‘Where the Wild Are’, is the culmination of tours and stints playing in bars and cafes in their native Belfast, to The Bluebird Café in Nashville, Chez Justine in Paris and demoing material at Berkley Street Studios, Santa Monica, LA. Honing their craft from years spent writing, recording and engineering their own material in both their bedroom back in Belfast and on the road.
Having supported bands as diverse as Peter Doherty, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Francois and the Atlas Mountain and Willy Mason, Southern sold out the 500 capacity Mandela Hall for their 2010 EP launch. Now returning with a fresh batch of recordings, Southern will be touring extensively throughout the summer of 2012 and releasing further material.
‘Where The Wild Are’ has already received airplay at Q Radio, NME Radio, Amazing Radio and selected BBC Introducing shows nationwide.
Southern will play an intimate single launch show for the single release at The Slaughtered Lamb, London, Monday May 21st. Tickets for the show are available in advance from http://www.wegottickets.com/ event/166277
