Merseyside Arts Foundation launch their 2013-14 Music Development Programme
Merseyside Arts Foundation has launched their 2013-14 Music Development Programme, which aims to give talented up-and-coming young musicians aged 16-18 from the Merseyside area the chance to get first-hand experience of the music industry; from inside the recording studio to live performance and to give an insight all the background work that is required to put their first foot on the musical ladder.
The 12 chosen artists from the region will get the chance to record their own material at the legendary Parr St Studios (The home of Coldplay's first 3 albums) which will also feature on a special compilation CD. They'll attend various workshops covering all aspects of the music business and get advice from top industry insiders, culminating with a special live matinee show to be held next year at Eric’s on Mathew Street.
The project was successfully launched last year with key successes including psych-rock outfit Sankofa, who went on to put out a release with record label 80s Vinyl and Ivy and The Chance, now known as singer/songwriter Shannen Bamford, who performed with the Sense of Sound choir at the inaugural Liverpool Music Awards ceremony performing in front of the likes of Mel C, Rebecca Ferguson, The Wombats and Lawson. Now in it's second consecutive year the project will once again see Merseyside Arts Foundation team up with the charity Youth Music, the country's leading music charity for young people, who have reached over two million, both in and out of school giving them opportunity discover their creativity and potential through music making since 1999.
“We really want to build on last year’s success” said Dan Hewitson of Merseyside Arts Foundation “The young bands involved last year all gained invaluable experience from experiencing a world-class music studio, laying down their tracks, seeing the finished product in their hands and playing live at hugely successful showcase event".
“Merseyside Arts Foundation continues to do great work in encouraging talented young people to develop their skills” said Matt Griffiths, Executive Director of Youth Music. “Music is the means by which many of those the Foundation helps discover themselves, find their self-confidence and begin to achieve their full potential in life. We applaud the work it does in providing this springboard to success for so many”.
Applicants must be aged 16-18 and will be required to audition an original song as part of the selection process. Electronic application forms are to be requested by emailing hello@merseysideartsfoundation.org.uk . The closing date for applications is Friday 13th September 2013.
