Jackie Venson produces cross genre video series Truth in Music
With the annual SXSW Music Festival around the corner, Austin has its own flourishing homegrown music scene year-round. Austin-born soul/RandB singer-songwriter Jackie Venson is gradually bubbling up under the radar with her self-produced online music sessions calledTruth in Music. Started just over a year ago, Venson releases a new video each month featuring a new original song, showing her incredible versatility and depth of musicality as a songwriter, vocalist, guitarist and pianist.
This month, Venson releases "Jupiter," - Season 2, Episode III of her Truth in Music series. “Jupiter” is Venson’s first hip hop song and features rapper KJ Hines (has opened for performers like Lil Wayne, Chris Brown, and Drake). The video shows Venson and Hines dressed up as astronauts visiting an alien planet that appears to be very similar to earth.
With 17,000 views and climbing, Venson is garnering more fans throughout Austin and beyond. She performs regularly in Austin with her band and will be touring soon in the south as well as in NYC and LA. Her upcoming new album The Light in Me will soon be announced and is expected to release later this year.
More about Jackie Venson
Daughter of Andrew Venson (veteran musician of the Austin music scene) and a Berklee College of Music graduate, Venson decided to take her music career to a new level by starting a YouTube channel featuring herself performing acoustic covers and her original songs. She released her first video in February 2013 that featured herself singing her original blues and soul compositions and accompanying herself on guitar. Later she also threw in her blues renditions of popular songs by Britney Spears and Adele and also featured a handful of guest artists.
As the popularity of Venson’s online sessions grew, so did the production quality of her videos. Now in her second season of Truth In Music, Venson shoots in with multiple cameras and has included a full band in the live recordings, featuring other artists such as Gilbert Ayala on drums, Alán Uribe on bass, and Steve Carlos Kirk on sax.
