Tune-Yards to play the Liverpool Anglican Cathedral
We're overjoyed to present one of the most acclaimed and innovative acts to have emerged from the US in the past half-decade. Experimental pop duo Tune-Yards make their first appearance in Liverpool since 2011 with a special show at the iconic Anglican Cathedral.
Splicing electronic textures with Afrobeat rhythms and pop melodies, multi-instrumentalist Merrill Garbus and her partner Nate Brenner issued second album Whokill to colossal acclaim in 2011, garnering a place on Pitchfork’s The 100 Best Albums of the Decade So Far list this August.
May 2014 follow up Nikki Nack received similar levels of critical appreciation and their first chart placings on both sides of the Atlantic with the NME stating the LP is ‘easily Tune-Yards' finest work’ while The Line of Best Fit hailed the set as ‘confrontational, boundary-bending, enigmatic, topical and sheer fun’.
Main support to Arcade Fire on their recent North American tour and an upcoming high profile booking at the Pitchfork Festival in Paris has seen the pair accompanied by a six-person brass and vocal section, elements that will surely sound stunning in the acoustically perfect Well at the Anglican Cathedral.
