Detestival announce second wave of acts for 2014

Following a stellar 2013 event, the Sheffield-based festival DETESTIVAL (in association with Bulliet Bourbon) returns for a second year with an extended three-day event on April 18th-20th 2014.

Originally founded and curated by the cult Yorkshire ‘death blues’ duo Wet Nuns in 2013, last year’s festival saw a sold-out two-day event featuring the likes of Toy, Hookworms, Temples, Wolf People, Bo Ningen and John J Presley. The 2014 edition now returns with three nights of decadence and a line-up of some of the most progressive and exciting acts around.

The second round of artists for 2014 have now been announced. Joining previously announced headliners Sleepy Sun and Turbowolf, everyone's favourite psych-extraordinaire MJ (of Hookworms) will be back with new super-group Menace Beach. Accompanying news of Menace Beach is the addition of some of this year's most exciting rising acts including That Fucking Tank, Mike Hughes, Cult of Dom Keller, Wild Smiles, Rumpus, Seize The Chair, Baba Naga, and Mistoa Polsta, who all join previously confirmed bands PINS, Slaves, Lola Colt, God Damn, Brown Brogues, Vladimir, Big Difference, Bad Guys and Jazz Hands.

Festival curator Rob Graham said of this year’s event; “This year we're back and we're bigger. Same as last year we stuck to the idea of trying to put a line-up together that was populated with acts that we like, both on an artistic level as well as personal one.

Since last years event we've seen: Toy better their first record with the beautiful and brave 'Join The Dots', Hookworms go from playing mid-bill to playing the final ATP at camber sands and releasing probably the album of the year, and Temples support the fucking Rolling Stones at Hyde park. Here's to another great weekend of bands that will blow everyone's minds and make waves!

Detestival takes place at The Queen’s Social Club in Sheffield over the Easter weekend of April 18th-20th 2014. Weekend tickets are on-sale now for just £30 in advance from harleylive.co.uk/ticket-shop, seetickets, com, gigantic.com and sivtickets.com.

The confirmed acts for this year’s event so far are; Sleepy Sun, Turbowolf, PINS, Slaves, God Damn, Lola Colt, Menace Beach, Brown Brogues, Vladimir, That Fucking Tank, Mike Hughes, Cult of Dom Keller, Wild Smiles, Rumpus, Seize The Chair, Baba Naga, Mistoa Polsta, Big Difference, Bad Guys and Jazz Hands.

Wet Nuns release new single 'Hanging' ahead of self-titled debut album

Wet Nuns release new single 'Hanging' ahead of self-titled debut album

Wet Nuns release new single 'Hanging' ahead of self-titled debut album

They started the year with an earth-shattering bang, and now everyone’s favourite death-blues duo Wet Nuns are set to unleash the new track ‘Hanging’ on September 15th, ahead of their self-titled debut album release and a UK headline tour this October.

2012 was a landmark year for Sheffield’s ‘favourite sons’ that saw them win supporters across the board from the likes of BBC Radio 1’s Huw Stephens, Arctic Monkey’s Matt Helders, The Independent, The Guardian, Q, Clash, NME, Kerrang!, XFM, as well as taking home the gong for ‘Video of the Year’ at the Artrocker Awards and performing at both Reading and Leeds Festivals.

The hell-raising pair showed no signs of slowing down earlier this year with the release of their critically acclaimed debut EP ‘Broken Teeth’, festival dates across the country, appearances at SXSW and New York Sound City, and the sold out success of their very own festival, the affectionately-titled Detestival.

Now the ‘Gruesome Twosome’ are back and better than ever with their trademark deep-fried brand of bone-churning riffs and ear-bursting drums as they prepare to travel the country preaching the gospel according to Wet Nuns (which admittedly mostly centres around ‘women, death and beer’).

Their hugely anticipated self-titled debut album, recorded with Ross Orton (Arctic Monkeys, MIA, The Kills), is also set to land this October.

After many weeks of negotiating and brainstorming, the following album titles were shelved; ‘In Da House’, Nashville Nostalgia, Happy Girthday, Flatcap Lumberjack and the Catflap Flapjacks, Huangpu River Dead Pigs, Spitbubble Cathedral, Vibed Cubed, Groovy Sauna, Greatest Wets, and finally Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit.

With none of those working out, Wet Nuns self-titled full-length album is due to be released on October 7th on their own label, Throng Of Nobs, on vinyl, CD and digital download. The new single ‘Hanging’ will be released as a digital download single on September 15th 2013.

Full dates for Wet Nuns UK tour are below and are on-sale now.

Wolf People, Toy, Hawk Eyes and more announced for Wet Nuns festival Detestival

Hell-raising duo Wet Nuns, in association with KRAKEN RUM and THRONG OF NOBS, have announced the full line-up for their very own festival, 'Detestival', this coming March 2013.

The monster line-up for the two-day festival is now confirmed as Wolf People, Toy, Hawk Eyes, Bo Ningen, Wet Nuns, Temples, Hookworms, Black Moth, Throng, Kult Country, John J Presley, Salem Rages, Blood Sport, Temple of Coke, Dry Heaves and Flaming Skulls.

The festival takes place at Queen’s Social Club in Sheffield over the Easter weekend of March 30th and 31st, with limited weekend tickets available now for just £14 in advance from harleylive.co.uk/ticket-shop, seetickets, com, and other selected outlets.

The line-up for Detestival was exclusively hand-picked by Wet Nuns and with the support of Kraken Rum. This is what the band had this to say about their very first Detestival;

One of the best things about being in a band, along with substandard motorway food, unimaginable inter-gig boredom, fractured relationships and soul crushing financial sacrifice, is the opportunity to play alongside and witness other bands.

Detestival is basically an incredibly selfish opportunity for us to put on what we think is the best line up of bands in the UK, every single band performing on the weekend we have either played with or seen in the last couple of years. We adore and hate every single band with a fiery intensity, they are all far too good and talented and we hate and love them for it. Now we have created an opportunity for us to play with them all, in the city where we have honed our sloppy talent.

Weekend tickets for Detestival are on-sale from the following online sites now; harleylive.co.uk/ticket-shop, seetickets.com, gigantic.com/harleylive,

Tickets are also available from the following outlets in Sheffield; The Harley, The Wick At Both Ends, Record Collector, HMV Sheffield, The Old Sweet Shop.
