Maverick Sabre announced as third headliner at Guernsey Festival 2012

Maverick Sabre

Maverick Sabre announced as third headliner at Guernsey Festival 2012

LONDON-BORN, multi-genre megastar Maverick Sabre will be joining the Guernsey Festival line-up as the final Main Stage headliner at The Rabbit Warren in Guernsey on Saturday 23 June.
Hackney-born Maverick Sabre (Matthew Stafford) relocated to Ireland at a young age where he developed an interest in music.  Performing on the Irish hip hop scene in his teenage years, he eventually earned support slots with rappers such as Lloyd Banks and Plan B. It was Plan B, after hearing Sabre’s haunting and soulful voice, who convinced him to move back to London and pursue a music career.
Maverick Sabre has since gone from strength to strength; his vocals feature on Professor Green’s top 40 single ‘Jungle’ and Chase and Status’ top three charting album No More Idols.
Signed as a solo artist to Mercury, his debut album, Lonely Are the Brave, reached number two in the UK charts earlier this year and spawned hits ‘I Need’ and ‘Let Me Go.’
Guernsey Festival organiser Paul Stephen sees Maverick Sabre’s unique style – a bold blend which includes R&B, hip hop, folk and reggae – as a great addition to the eclectic line-up for this year’s two day event.
‘We couldn’t be more excited about having him round-off the Saturday. Our overall aim is that there is something for everybody and we feel Maverick Sabre is a huge step towards this goal.’
Also gracing Saturday’s Main Stage will be I am Tich, an upcoming pop singer-songwriter sensation who has performed at many major festivals and is currently working on her debut album with acclaimed songwriters such as Nick Jonas.
Meanwhile, the Second Stage on Sunday will now include British girl group Vida (currently touring with JLS) and on Saturday will showcase Guernsey’s own Last of the Light Brigade and China Aster.
Additions to Saturday’s VIP stage include Thai deep house and techno DJ Nakadia along with Funhouse DJs (Stu Mair and Killa) and Guernsey’s own Amelia. Sunday will host Jersey’s Boogaloo DJs (Paul Shoer and Keith Robinson) along with Guernsey acts Soups (AKA Christopher Souplet), Manzur, Andy Newman and Simon Veron.
Legendary drum ‘n’ bass/jungle DJ and producer Shy FX (featuring MC Stamina) has been announced for the Fusion Nightclub Dance Arena on the Sunday. More announcements for Saturday will showcase Guernsey talent with appearances from Infectious Rhythm DJs Tom Brock, Leon Robertson & Gezzie along with Karl Cicmic, while Sunday will also see D-Bridge (featuring SP:MC), Hydro and Pressure and Killa perform.
These acts will now join the likes of Kaiser Chiefs, Macy Gray and The Charlatans on the diverse list of artists appearing at the event.
‘We are overwhelmed with the versatility of artists on this year’s line-up and hope music fans will go away fulfilled. Maverick Sabre and Shy FX are both great names in their genres and really seal the deal for us,’ said Mr Stephen.
With just 38 days to go until the event, the only performers that now remain a mystery are those that will fill slots left for winners of the Live & Unsigned and Studio Jam competitions.
The Guernsey Festival will take place on 23 and 24 June and tickets are available online now at www.guernseyfestival.gg.

New acts announced for Guernsey Festival

 Bravestation

New acts announced for Guernsey Festival

WITH just over 50 days to go until this year’s Guernsey Festival, more acts have been announced, further adding to the diverse line-up, which spans a vast array of music genres to cater for all festival-goers.

The Guernsey Festival team is working hard to put the final touches in place.

Joining the already diverse line-up will be English outfit Hadouken!, performing on the main stage at The Rabbit Warren in Guernsey on Saturday 23 June. The band – whose name comes from a signature move in the video game series Street Fighter – sprung to fame in 2007 after Mike Skinner (The Streets) played their song ‘That Boy That Girl’ on Radio 1 while guest presenting. The band splices together indie rock and grime sounds with electronica and new rave culture to form a unique and up-tempo hybrid.

Also joining the bill, on Sunday’s main stage, is singer-songwriter Delilah. Best-known for her vocals on the 2011 Chase and; Status single ‘Time’, her upcoming album From the Roots Up is eagerly anticipated. Sunday will also showcase Jersey folk rock act Kevin Pallot, set to appear on the Other Stage.

For fans of dance and electronic music, several other new additions to the line-up will appeal. Sunday’s dance arena will see Jungle Drummer (featuring beatboxer Ball-Zee) sharing the bill with Jersey drum ‘n’ bass troupe Terminal State and Intensi-T, a young beatboxing talent who has performed with, among others, Nicola Roberts from Girls Aloud and Ed Sheeran. On Saturday the dance arena will host London’s Paul Lorraine and Fusion Nightclub resident DJ Tammo.

Those with access to the VIP area will on the Saturday see performances from Brandon Block and K-Klass, with Sunday’s scheduling now including True & False and the acclaimed DJ Scott Page, who has appeared at top nightclubs worldwide, produced a number of Top 20 hits and has a weekend residency with Fusion.

While the list of artists continues to increase, the event will also see the welcome return of veteran broadcasters Wes Butters and Janice Long as compères. After the success of last year’s two-day festival, the pair will be the principal hosts once again entertaining the crowd and introducing acts on the main stage.

With the likes of Kaiser Chiefs, Macy Gray, The Charlatans, Josh Kumra and Utah Saints already announced, organiser Jon Stephen is confident that this year’s event will have something for all.

“Everything is really coming together now and we are hugely positive about the quality and diversity of the line-up. We are almost there with announcements now but still have one massive headliner to announce so watch this space,” he said.

The Guernsey Festival will take place on 23 and 24 June and tickets are available online now at www.guernseyfestival.gg.

Kaiser Chiefs and The Charlatans join the Guernsey Festival bill

Kaiser Chiefs

Kaiser Chiefs and The Charlatans join the Guernsey Festival bill

LEEDS-BASED indie rockers Kaiser Chiefs have been announced as the second of three headliners for this year’s Guernsey Festival.

The band will take to the main stage in Guernsey on Sunday 24 June and are set to bring the event to an energetic conclusion with their large catalogue of well-known anthemic hits.

Formed in 1996 the group came into their own with the release of their 2005 debut album, Employment, which brought acclaim with hits such as ‘Everyday I Love You Less and Less,’ the mod-spirited ‘I Predict a Riot’ and ‘Oh My God’ which was later covered by Lily Allen. Their follow-up album release, Yours Truly, Angry Mob, featured the UK number one single ‘Ruby’ and helped secure their popularity.

Known for their pogo-inducing anthems, and with a singles compilation album ‘Souvenir’ due for release this summer, festival organiser Jon Stephen expects the band will be a fitting climax to the event.

“We are stoked to be ending the weekend with Kaiser Chiefs. Their brand of rock is appealing to everyone and their tracks are so embedded in our culture that the performance should have everyone singing along.

“They will close this year’s festival in style,” he said.

Joining them on stage and performing immediately beforehand will be acclaimed alternative rockers The Charlatans, who have been performing for more than 20 years. The Brit-poppers will be performing their classic album ‘Tellin’ Stories’ in its entirety to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the album’s release.

Peaking at number one in the charts, the album spawned three top ten singles: ‘One to Another’, ‘North Country Boy’ and ‘How High.’

With a remarkable career behind them, and a recent resurgence through their 2010 album Who We Touch, The Charlatans have sealed their place as one of the great British journeyman bands and are set to impress at the festival.

Alongside these stellar acts, the event will also host up-and-coming pop star Daniela Brooker to the main stage on Saturday 23 June. She has previously toured with The Saturdays as well as gaining airplay on BBC Radio One.

The dance area will also be featuring performances from a variety of international acts across the two-day event. The most recent additions include one of the biggest names on the drum & bass scene Friction, dance legends Utah Saints, Birmingham bad boy Micky Slim, party starters The Squatters, up and coming grime artist Dazzle, plus official tour DJ to Example, Sam Wire.

Meanwhile, the Other Stage will see South London’s DJ Wrongtom featuring Deemas J and Limey Banton, who are both part of the Guernsey-based Old Time New Time Sounds collective. Wrongtom has performed on the island before and is well known to local crowds.

They will also be joined by Jersey’s Lloyd Yates and rising London four-piece Mt. Wolf. The latter – a self-dubbed ‘dream folk’ outfit – features two Guernsey-born musicians.

The Guernsey Festival team will continue to make more announcements over the coming weeks.

“We still have to announce a final headline act to join Macy on the Saturday. We are hugely excited about the calibre and diversity of acts so far and hope there will be something for everyone,” said Mr Stephen.

Tickets are available online at www.guernseyfestival.gg, group discounts are now also on offer until 30 April. You can get a 10% discount by buying tickets of ten or more.

Macy Gray to play Guernsey Festival

Macy Gray

Macy Gray to play Guernsey Festival

GUERNSEY Festival organisers have announced Grammy Award-winning
soul artist Macy Gray as the first of three main stage headliners.

Set to appear at Guernsey’s biggest music festival on Saturday 23 June,
the American R&B superstar will be joined by two other headliners over the
course of the two-day event.

Macy Gray shot to international fame in 1999 with the hit single ‘I Try’ and has
since amassed an impressive résumé including two Brit Awards, a Grammy
Award and a thriving acting career – appearing in films such as 2002’s
blockbuster Spider-man.

Macy is set to release her sixth studio album – Covered – on 26 March;
a collection of cover songs reinterpreting material by acts as diverse as
Metallica, Radiohead, Arcade Fire and Yeah Yeah Yeahs in her compelling
and unique vocal style.

West London indie musician King Charles, who is creating a stir in the music
world at the moment having won the International Songwriting Competition
in 2010, will also play the main stage. King Charles, known for his distinctive
Victorian costume dress and alternative, folk-pop sound has toured with
Mumford & Sons.

Scottish alternative folk-rock band, Kassidy, and Irish indie-rockers, General
Fiasco, will also appear along with the legendary country guitar virtuoso Albert
Lee and his band Hogan’s Heroes. Fast rising singer-songwriter Josh Kumra,
who recently had a number one collaboration with Wretch 32, will also be on
the bill.

Festival organiser Paul Stephen said: “Macy Gray is quite a coup and we’re
over the moon to have her confirmed to be one of the three big headliners.

“We are hugely excited about the strength of the line-up this year and feel
we are really building on the success of last year’s event. Many people don’t
realise the level of work that needs to go into booking artists and we will be
announcing other performers in the near future.”

Elsewhere in the festival grounds, the Other Stage will see legendary 2-Tone
ska revival band, The Selecter, alongside Nottingham power trio, Little Barrie
(whose members include Primal Scream guitarist Barrie Cadogan) and the
bizarre electro-swing outfit Kitten and the Hip.

The Dance Stage will feature a live set from Dutch music production duo
Mason, two times UK DMC Champion JFB and Sir Spyro, the official DJ for
UK Grime artist Tinchy Stryder

“Its exactly 100 days to go until the event and we have plenty more to
announce over the coming weeks including the other two main stage
headliners, we guarantee there will be something for everyone,” said Mr
Stephen.

The Guernsey Festival team will continue to make announcements until the
end of May.
