De La Soul, Imelda May, Incognito and more for Love Supreme Festival

De La Soul, Imelda May, Incognito Love Supreme Festival

A host of high profile acts have been added to the line-up for Jazz FM’s Love Supreme Jazz Festival including alternative hip hop pioneers De La Soul, who will play songs from their illustrious 25-year career as a full 10 piece live band, Irish rockabilly star Imelda May, showcasing music from her brand new album Tribal, and acid jazz legends Incognito, who will play a hit laden set to mark their 35th anniversary.

With a world-class programme that already boasts the likes of multi-million-selling Grammy and Golden Globe winner Jamie Cullum, double Brit Award nominee Laura Mvula, a special 25th anniversary show from legendary RandB outfit Soul II Soul, and man of the moment, the Grammy-winning Gregory Porter, the acclaimed 3-day event is standing out from the crowd with a uniquely varied selection of music from an incredible array of international stars.

Other additions to the bill include a string of highly regarded vocalists including the prodigious Nikki Yanofsky, who headlined the Montreal Jazz Festival when she was just 12 years old; James Tormé, Jazz FM presenter and son of legendary jazz singer Mel Tormé; and the MOBO-nominated Natalie Williams, who will be performing with both her jazz quartet and wildly popular Soul Family band. The festival will also present a broad selection of cutting edge contemporary jazz and joining the bill this month are jazz-punk sextet Melt Yourself Down, Blue Note trumpeter Takuya Kuroda, forward-thinking piano trio Phronesis, the meditative rising trumpet star Matthew Halsall, revered New York drummer Jaimeo Brown and future stars of the UK scene Reuben James Trio, Slowly Rolling Camera and Mammal Hands.

Festival Director Ciro Romano: “I am really pleased to have artists like De La Soul, Jamie Cullum, Laura Mvula and Imelda May at the festival this year - they are perfect main stage performers for Love Supreme. De La Soul's full band set is something to behold. This together with jazz legends such as Dave Holland, the current mainstream success of jazz acts like Gregory Porter, cutting edge contemporary jazz like Melt Yourself Down, and the best of the future stars of the UK scene is what makes the festival so unique.”

Set against the stunning backdrop of Glynde Place in East Sussex, Jazz FM’s Love Supreme is the UK’s only major green field jazz festival and takes place over the weekend of the 4th, 5th and 6th July 2014. Returning this year are three of the highlights of last year’s festival, Brighton’s Jazz Rooms Soundsystem, who will wrap the festival up in style on the Sunday night, the welcome return of the popular Grand Marnier Hidden Charm Bar, and the Funky Sensation DJs, who will once again get festival goers warmed up on the Friday alongside a range of local live music acts.

Roberta Flack To Headline Cheltenham Jazz Festival

Roberta Flack To Headline Cheltenham Jazz Festival

Making her first trip to the UK since 2006, four-time Grammy-winning soul star Roberta Flack has been added to the bill for this year's Cheltenham Jazz Festival. Joining an already star-studded lineup that features the likes of Jamie Cullum, Laura Mvula, Jools Holland and Gregory Porter, Flack will draw on an incredible back catalogue of music that includes massive radio and chart hits such as “First Time Ever I Saw Your Face", “Killing Me Softly With His Song" and “Feel Like Making Love".

Widely considered to be one of the preeminent vocalists of her generation, Flack has received worldwide critical acclaim for her singing and peerless musicianship and is an exciting addition to the Festival's programme.

Festival Director Ian George:

That Roberta Flack is flying over from America to perform at Cheltenham Jazz Festival is a real coup for the town. We always try to programme global megastars and anyone who went to last year’s Dionne Warwick gig can testify how incredible it is to hear such a legend performing in the Festival’s own Big Top. Roberta’s show will bring even more star quality to an already stellar line-up”.

Flack will perform in the Big Top on Saturday May 3rd at 9pm.

Due to phenomenal demand, Jamie Cullum will perform an additional show on the opening day of the festival. Showcasing brand new material from his forthcoming new album, Cullum will be backed by an 11-piece big band.

Tickets for Roberta Flack and Jamie Cullum are available from £30 at www.cheltenhamfestivals.com or on 08448808094. Tickets go on sale to members on Monday March 10th at midday and then to the general public on Tuesday March 11th.
The 2014 Cheltenham Jazz Festival takes place from Wednesday April 30th to Monday May 5th and is hosted in a tented festival village in Cheltenham’s Montpellier Gardens.
