Stargroves And Abigail Breslin Debut Their New Single Telephone

NYC-based indie-pop band Stargroves is breaking new ground with their new song, “Telephone.”

Joined by Oscar nominee Abigail Breslin on lead vocals, the group performed the soon to be released single on the The Young Turks popular Pop Trigger channel.

Known for their pop-culture commentary and celebrity guests, The Young Turks own Pop Trigger channel; took a step in a new direction this week making Stargroves and Abigail Breslin the first group to ever perform on the show.

Lead by band leader Teddy Watson (lead vocals, guitar), “Telephone” is a hypnotic mid-tempo blend of soft synths, echoed guitars, and catchy melodies the group has become known for. The song features Teddy and Abigail trading off lead vocals on the verses and joining together in beautiful harmonies for the choruses. “Telephone” is the first single to be released off Stargroves second studio album, which is currently being recorded.

This is not the first time Stargroves and Abigail have worked together. In 2012, the group released their debut single “Westjiords” featuring Abigail and Teddy on lead vocals. The song was met with critical acclaim receiving praise from Perez Hilton, MTV Buzzworthy, E! Online, and several other noteworthy media outlets.

However the group hasn’t stopped there. Stargroves went on to release their first music video for their single “Hat’s In The Air” (which pays tribute to the cult classic film “Harold and Maude” directed by Hal Ashby) and in the summer of 2014 they released their debut self-titled album.

Stargroves have been actively performing shows throughout the U.S. and Canada. When her busy acting schedule allows, Abigail occasionally joins the group on stage for special performances. In their interview on Pop Trigger, the group also revealed that they’ve just been confirmed to perform in Austin, TX this year for the annual SXSW music conference.

Stargroves and Abigail Breslin release Within Me a Lunatic Sings

Academy Award nominee and singer Abigail Breslin joined Stargroves new album adding her voice to "Within Me a Lunatic Sings"

"Within Me a Lunatic Sings" plays like a Pinterest board of '00s indie rock greatest hits: Stars, Sigur Ros, and Freelance Whales are shot through the group's sound, revealing themselves as the track transitions from jittery boy-girl keyboard pop into a dramatic piano and string section. The new band s the project of 21-year-old Teddy Watson, who spent a few months in Sigur Ros native Iceland earlier this year for inspiration before bringing the band together.

He didn t stop there, tapping Freelance Whales producer Jeremy Sklarsky to work on Stargroves debut album. Nothing crazy about doing your homework though giving away a track like Within Me a Lunatic Sings for free might be a l il nuts, but we ll take it considering tis the season. Grab it before the band blows up and starts charging Taylor Swift iTunes money.

New York City-based indie-pop band Stargroves to release debut Album

The road to success is especially tough for indie bands.  Stargroves, a New York City-based indie-pop band has defied those odds. The group originated with lifelong musician and New York University Computer Science student Teddy Watson. As founder and lead singer, Teddy recruited the current band members, bringing their eclectic mix of talents together to create the band's unique sound. Teddy writes the band's songs, drawing inspiration from musicians like Sigur Rós and Stars.

In 2012 Teddy took a three-month hiatus to Iceland. In Reykjavík,  he focused on writing songs for the upcoming album. Upon returning to New York, Teddy teamed up with Freelance Whales’ producer Jeremy Sklarsky to record the music.

Stargroves' music is best described as a unique type of indie pop – one that combines catchy melodies with wild and often orchestral compositions. Their uniquely eclectic sound has garnered recognition from MTV Buzzworthy and Perez Hilton, among other media outlets and industry bloggers.

David Greenwald of MTV Buzzworthy observed that the song “'Within Me a Lunatic Sings' plays like a Pinterest board of 00's indie rock greatest hits: Stars, Sigur Rós, and Freelance Whales are shot through the group's sound, revealing themselves as track transitions from jittery boy-girl keyboard pop into a dramatic piano and string section.”

Perez Hilton compared Stargroves to a “very modern Postal Service infused with a slice of Taylor Swift-esque guitar rifts...we are LOVING the complimenting tones of both Teddy and Abigail's voices. Impressive first effort, you hot young thangs!” He was referring to Abigail Breslin, an Academy Award-nominated actress and singer who sometimes joins the band, and is heard on the songs “Westfjords” and “Within Me a Lunatic Sings.” She is best known for her roles in Enders Game, Little Miss Sunshine, and Zombieland.

The band recorded all songs in New York City at Threshold Studios. Teddy Watson produced, Jeremy Sklarsky was the recording engineer, and Enrico de Trizio assisted with the production. The album is scheduled for release on July 22, 2014.
