Reload festival 2015 returns with UB40 and Boomtown Rats

Reload festival returns with a huge line-up of superstars from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s for a weekend of unbridled fun at the spectacular Norfolk Showground.

Joining the bill on Saturday will be Soft Cell front man and prolific solo artist Marc Almond.    This Ivor Novello award winner is a truly iconic figure whose haunting synth, new-wave, classics are as enduring today as they were when they dominated the nation’s airwaves in the 80’s.

Sunday will see the return of crowd favourite Rick Astley.  Best known for his 1987 signature tune ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ which went to number 1 in a whopping 25 countries, Rick became an internet phenomenon when the Rickrolling sensation took off and ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ has now been watched over a staggering 100 million times on Youtube.

Also joining the Saturday lineup will be one of the defining figures of mid-80s pop, Howard Jones. With ten top 40 hits between 1983 and 1986 including his smash hit ‘What Is Love?’ and a career that is still going strong he is a great addition to festival.

From global hit ‘Walking On Sunshine’ through to the Eurovision Song Contest winning single ‘Love Shine A Light’ Katrina (ex-and The Waves) has a huge catalogue of songs that has seen her continue to tour the globe with phenomenal success.

Birmingham’s finest sons, UB40’s Ali Campbell, Astro and Mickey Virtue reunited will headline on Saturday where other acts appearing will include Grammy Award winning mega star Billy Ocean and the dance, disco and soul of Mercury Music Prize winners M People.
Sunday will see a performance from one of the UK’s most powerful live acts Level 42’s as well as sets from new wave trailblazers Boomtown Rats and one of the voices of the 80’s, Jimmy Somerville.

Seminal club night Carwash will be hosting the after party on Saturday night exclusively for campers, spinning solid gold disco classics and hands-in-the-air anthems to keep the party going ‘All Night Long’.

With many more acts to be confirmed, surprise guests and announcements, fancy dress, great food and drink and more fun that you can shake a (glow) stick at,

UB40 add more dates to their 2015 UK tour

UB40 add more dates to their 2015 UK tour

UB40 are Britain's greatest reggae artists and have survived more than 30 years in the music business, clocking up more than 70 million record sales worldwide with songs like Kingston Town and Red, Red Wine. With over 50 singles in the UK Chart, UB40’s contribution to pop music is extraordinary.

Ali, Astro and Mickey, the three founding members are currently embarking on a huge world tour, which the fans have been crying out for, playing all the hits and new tracks from the forthcoming album Silhouette, which will be released in October.  Due to phenomenal public demand a further six concert dates have been scheduled for 2015 alongside dates at the Birmingham NIA on Friday 17th April 2015 and London O2 Brixton Academy on 18th April 2015.

The new dates are Nottingham Royal Concert Hall on 9th April, Ipswich Regent on 10th April, Bournemouth BIC Pavilion on 12th April, Bristol Colston Hall on 14th April, Cardiff St David’s Hall on 15th April and Sheffield City Hall on 20th April.

The band commented, “We can’t wait to get back on the road - the response from the fans has been overwhelming and we can’t wait to play new material from our new album Silhouette, as well as all those classics. 100% reggae, 100% UB40. Big love Ali, Astro and Mickey

The summer of 1978 saw the eight members of the Birmingham band, soon to become UB40, drawn together by their love of Jamaican reggae. Taking their name from a notorious British unemployment form, the band played their first local gig in Birmingham in 1979, and spent the rest of the year performing at pubs and clubs around the UK.

British radio legend John Peel was so impressed with the group's first demo tape that he invited them to perform on his Radio One show in 1980. At the same time, the band were also asked to support The Pretenders on their triumphant national tour.

They released a Top 5 single in the UK in February 1980 and, in 1981, released a brace of albums, 'Present Arms' and 'Present Arms In Dub'. Their breakthrough came with the hit single, 'Red, Red Wine'. The song topped the British singles charts in 1983 and, after renewed promotion following the 1988 Nelson Mandela Concert at Wembley, the single reached the number 1 spot in the US.

Touring America and Canada in 1985, the group celebrated another hit single with 'I Got You Babe', recorded with Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders. In 1986 they finished 'Rat In The Kitchen', and further recording in 1987 and 1988 was complimented by a world tour.

1993's platinum selling album, 'Promises And Lies', spawned the hit 'Can't Help Falling In Love', which topped the U.S. pop chart for seven consecutive weeks. The subsequent tour culminated in a series of shows in South Africa, with them dedicating their anti-apartheid anthem, 'Sing Our Own Song', to President Nelson Mandela.

The band's initial line up lasted for 30 years from the band's formation in 1978 until front-man Ali Campbell’s departure from the band in 2008. Since that time, two other founding members (Mickey Virtue and Astro) have also left the band, and the trio of Campbell, Virtue, and Astro have since formed UB40.

The Brand New Heavies who will be special guests at the London O2 Academy Brixton and Birmingham NIA dates are without doubt true pioneers of the London Acid Jazz scene. A British institution, their unique mix of jazz, funk and soul has lit up the UK music scene for well over two decades. Over the years The Brand New Heavies have been responsible for some of the UK’s biggest R and B/ soul tracks, scoring 16 top 40 singles including ‘Dream On Dreamer’ and ‘You’ve Got A Friend’, as well as over two million album sales.

UB40 Headline massive UK reggae lineup at Wowfest

Wowfest August 17th - 19th 2012

Wowfest - the UK's brightest and biggest new festival for 2012 - has pulled off a spectacular double coup as they announced further headliners for Saturday & Sunday night with the world's biggest selling reggae band UB40 playing one of their only UK festival appearances this year on Saturday Aug 18th. With a string of top ten hits to their name, UB40 head up a quite outstanding reggae line-up of living legends that already includes the likes of Finley Quaye, The Wailers, Aswad, Maxi Priest and Misty in Roots alongside another dozen acts in what promises to be the finest collection of reggae artistes anywhere in the UK this year.

And there was further excitement from the Wow camp with news of the exclusive UK appearance of Madeleine Peyroux, from USA, on Sunday on the Blue Angel Stage, for what is to be a great treat for fans of her jazz/folk bohemian style, once discovered busking in the streets of Paris with her soul shaking songs and haunting voice likened to Billie Holliday. This follows the Saturday headline appearance of The Overtones - 5 Irish/English boys updating the swing and fun of be-bop and dee-wop and bringing some good old style back into the modern UK jazz scene.

The Blue Angel Stage features some exquisite Jazz acts including the recognisably Jamaican inspired lilts of jazz party trombonist Dennis Rollins in the Velocity Trio and Dominican Cameron Pierre, Dixie chicks Larkin Poe, plus The London Community Gospel Choir, with some more outstanding live appearances still to be announced, ensuring the most impressive selection of Jazz acts in the UK for 2012
And the global party that is Wowfest continues to gathers pace in the afterhours Club Nights with the addition of Roni Size alongside Smith and Mighty for superlative jungle/dubstep/drum and bass night on Friday, whilst Peter Hook, until recently of New Order fame, joins Marshall Jefferson on the ones and twos in a closing Madchester Hacienda themed after hours party on Sunday.

And with the addition of the Alabama 3, Heaven 17, 808 State, Kitten and the Hip, The Pretty Things, and The Blockheads to the Main and Global Stages, with plenty more support acts as well as headliners still to be announced, Wowfest is already shaping up to be an iconic event, with an eclectic mix of House, Reggae, Ska, Jazz, Global and Dance that is already seeing a few envious eyes cast by established festival organisers - with the emphasis firmly on quality rather than excessive quantity of fillers that can sometimes blight other festival line-ups

Tickets are on sale from the event website for a bargain early bird weekend £99 (including free travel on Southern Vectis buses) for limited period only, and many have already snapped up since the announcement of  Paul Oakenfold, Soul 11 Soul, The Beat, Norman Jay, Danny Rampling, The Selecter, Bad Manners, Neville Staple of the Specials, Bez from the Happy Mondays' acid house night, Manos De Dios, Black Roots, Talisman and host of other top names all appearing at Wowfest over the weekend - and with a lot more to come yet.
Wowfest also sees a very promising stage for newer acts evolving - The Shaved Fish stage highlights global and local up and coming bands ensuring that plenty of young unsigned and Isle of Wight talent gets to share the event with some of the classiest live performers alive today. Local and unsigned acts are invited to contact Wowfest HQ to apply for an opportunity to play - see the event website www.wowfest.co.uk for more info about opportunities to perform and get involved with Wowfest - including catering and trading concessions, volunteer stewards and other opportunities to join the festival.

And with a strong green ethos, an emphasis on veggie, locally sourced and organic food, and a tantalizing looking selection of workshops and activities for kids and families in the African Village, plus some fabulous comedy, cabaret, theatre, performance, circus and walkabout, there's plenty more going on than just the superb musical line-up to ensure a truly memorable weekend at what promises to be one of the friendliest and enjoyable weekends this summer
WOWfest is also proud to partner the following charities: Oxfam, Solar Aid, Building Schools for Africa, Sustrans, Vegfam and the IW NHS Juba project.
