Blackpool Festival ONE OF THESE DAYS announced

One Of These Days will capture the essence of Field Day, Oya Festival, Melt!, Kendal Calling, Glastonbury Dance Village, Electric Elephant, End of The Road, DFA Records, SWN Festival, The Warehouse Project, Now Wave, Free Rotation, Eden Sessions, Fiber Festival, and Shambala to create a truly unique experience in the suitably elaborate and legendary Blackpool Winter Gardens, in the shadow of the Blackpool Tower.  One other major international festival’s participation is yet to be announced.

One Of These Days will be two days like no other in the international festival calendar.  Never have so many of the world’s best events come together to create a one-off spectacular and the look and feel of each event will be distilled and brought to Blackpool and allowed to explode aurally and visually into the many rooms of the Winter Gardens. Each festival will bring their unique ethos and style to their own individually designed space at the legendary multi-venue indoor complex, curating a line-up that reflects their own celebrated events. From the spectacular Cubehenge light installation of Glastonbury to the indoor forests of End of the Road and the Croatian beaches of Electric Elephant, each festival will bring a taste of the place they call home to Blackpool.

From the big stage draws of Melt! Festival and Eden Sessions to the electronic innovation of The Warehouse Project, Glastonbury Dance Village and DFA and the folk inclinations of End of the Road and SWN Festival, you’re sure to find plenty to explore. With over 150 bands, artists and DJs, not to mention interactive art and film installations, an emerging talent strand and our exclusive Winter Market, One Of These Days promises to end the year in spectacular fashion.

One of These Days will help kick start the cultural redevelopment of Blackpool, it aims to bring this world first event to the seaside town and utilise Blackpool's existing infrastructure of beautiful Victorian theatres and bars that stretch the coastline.

“We were going around the world to many different festivals seeing really unique ways of doing things. We decided to invite these wonderful festivals to the party. Our vision is to have one site where each space within it is filled by a micro-version of each festival, not just musically, but visually – capturing the essence of each festival. We aimed high and asked the festivals we love to come to Blackpool. They said yes…”
– Ruth Daniel, Promoter, One Of These Days

New Jon Gomm single/video Passionflower released today

With a once-seen-never-forgotten two-handed style, both physical and complex, Jon Gomm is an incredible guitar virtuoso, using one acoustic instrument to create drum sounds, bass lines and sparkling melodies all at the same time.

The son of a music critic, musicians would often stay at the Gomm household in Blackpool on the understanding Jon would get a guitar lesson, meaning he had one-to-one tuition from blues legends like Walter Trout and Bob Brozman.

International tours have generated a huge cult following and Jon is regarded by those ‘in the know’ as one of the world’s most talented and innovative guitarists. His videos are watched thousands of times within days of appearing on Youtube, and his home-recorded debut album Hypertension sold over ten thousand copies with no industry backing. The next, Don't Panic, sold out on Amazon within 5 days.
The songs were home-recorded by Jon, and each one has an accompanying video which has been produced by Jon’s fans, keen as always to get involved and help the cause.

A percentage of the sales of the single will be going to Jon's mum's charity The Happy House children's home for kids in Kenya, many of whom have been orphaned by Aids or malaria.

The first single, Passionflower is a beautifully uplifting track where Gomm’s blues and folk inflected vocals soar over the distortion drenched sound steel strings bending and retuning. The accompanying array of percussive cracks and bangs created on the body of his well worn guitar create an ethereal soundscape. Jon describes it as a song about personal growth inspired by a tropical plant which overgrew the whole of his little backyard in inner-city Leeds.

Passionflower blends technical virtuosity on the guitar with an earthy lyrical style to make an everyman anthem.

Future releases in the project will include an instrumental arrangement of a disco classic, a political call to arms, an overblown acoustic-prog meditation on obsession and a cover version of one of Jon’s favourite songs from his childhood.

The Colours Announce New Record Label

The Colours can announce that they have signed to independent record label, Hey Bert Records.

The Blackpool based quartet have become a
dominant feature in the Lancashire music scene, with them performing numerous dates across the North-West region – including success in a recent ‘Battle Of The Bands’ competition.

Jake Powell, vocalist for The Colours, states “the North-West hasn’t influenced me as greatly as everyone would expect, with my only real Lancashire based influences coming from Delphic and Chapel Club. The current scene seems to be majorly southern sounding, with the likes of Wolf Gang, who I recently saw a documentary about, finding a lot of mainstream success”.

“I feel working alongside Hey Bert Records has helped increase our potential. The band no longer feels dependent on me or another member having to arrange everything. It seems being with Hey Bert, we feel more of a team. The main importance at the moment is getting these new tracks recorded and exposing what the best of our ability, currently, is” Jake explains.

It is no surprise that their punchy vocals, melodic hooks and vibrant sounds have led to comparisons to Two Door Cinema Club, Funeral Party and Bombay Bicycle Club. One thing remains certain; The Colours is a name that will feature heavily in your playlist over the forthcoming months.

The Colours formed in early-2010, consisting of Jake Powell (Vocals/Guitar), Ben Swift (Bass) and Joe Packman (Drums), but earlier this year included Gerald Buckfield (Guitar/Percussion) to the line up.

Drummer, Joe Packman, mentions that “Gerald used to be our tech, with him being the only member of the band that has studied a music course. We felt a direction we wanted to go in, but couldn’t do that just as a three-piece, so his inclusion just seemed necessary. Thankfully he accepted, as it has helped us to indulge into newer sounds and experiment a little more”.

The Blackpool based quartet is currently allowing a FREE download of their demo tracks, ‘Olivia In India‘ and ‘Everyone Complains, Nothing’s Granted‘, which is available at: http://www.heybert.co.uk/thecolours.

“The release is just to illustrate the direction we’re heading and to inform fans that we haven’t just drifted off the radar. It’s the newest and, personally, our best stuff. We just hope it’s to everyone else’s liking” Joe adds.
