Chibuku Shake Shake celebrate 15th Birthday Party

Chibuku Shake Shake 15th Birthday Party

Chibuku Shake Shake celebrate 15th Birthday Party

After 15 years at the forefront of the UK clubbing scene, Chibuku club night are proud to present the gargantuan line up for their huge 15th Birthday celebration on Saturday 14th March 2015 starting at Liverpool's impressive Camp and Furnace venue, before moving on to the club’s spiritual home at Arts Club where some very special top secret guest performances are in the pipeline, and culminating in the now legendary after party at The Magnet.

Spanning three venues, eight stages and over twelve hours in total, some of the biggest and best names in the electronic music world will gather together to celebrate the lasting legacy of one of the UK clubbing scene's best-loved nights. Featuring performances from big names including Annie Mac, Andy C, David Rodigan MBE, Fourtet, Joy Orbison, George Fitzgerald, Jackmaster, Ben UFO, Benji B , Oneman, EZ and DJ Craze plus a host of Chibuku resident DJs and friends from throughout the years, this one promises to be the biggest and boldest party they’ve hosted to date.

Announced this week as Zane Lowe's replacement at BBC Radio One, veteran DJ and long-time friend of the club Annie Mac had the following to say about appearing on the bill; “I’m delighted to be appearing amongst such an esteemed group of DJs for Chibuku’s 15th birthday. I’ve had some of my best nights out ever in the Theatre at Chibuku, both on the dance floor and on the stage. I’ve been attending the club night for over ten years and it’s still as exciting and atmospheric as ever.

Drum and bass pioneer Andy C comments: “Chibuku throw some of the best parties around, and the energy from the crowd is guaranteed to be on fire. I always look forward to playing there, and I can’t wait celebrate their 15th birthday with them.

What began as a group of friends gathering above an old bar in Liverpool has evolved into a world-renowned promotions team at the heart of the UK's night life. Now, with newly instated partner and head promoter Sean Stephenson at the helm with a brand new team of young blood supporting him, the night continues to evolve and grow with the fast-paced and ever changing landscape of electronic music.

"In terms of DJs we've had at the night, I think it’s a more of case of who hasn’t played for us" says Stephenson "We've broken many a big-name DJ onto the global platform whilst always trying to maintain a high calibre of music. My first ever Chibuku was in late 2003 when I moved to Liverpool for University. I walked into the Theatre at the old Barfly and was greeted by UNKLE playing ‘In a State’ and I’ve been hooked ever since.”

They've thrown parties at venues like Warehouse Project, Camp and Furnace, The Shipping Forecast and The Magnet; hosted arenas at Parklife, Global Gathering, Sonar, Hideout Festival and held a five year residency with Fabric; and they've even managed to make the occasional foray into throwing events on boats, trains and in barns on remote woodland.

As one of only a handful of UK clubs who’ve managed to make it to their fifteenth year, this cross genre behemoth will only serve to underscore the night’s lasting relevance and importance to electronic music around the world – long may it continue.

Remember: for the official Chibuku 15th Birthday, the After Show Party starts at Arts Club from 11pm – 4am then moves over at 4am - late at The Magnet on Hardman Street.

The Masque in Liverpool is saved and becomes MAMA Group venue

Following a long 12 months since the demise of the previous operating company, promoters Chibuku and Circus have announced that a major deal has been completed regards the Masque venue sealing its long term future in the city. On December 9th the promoters of both clubs will hand over the premises to a new partnership with the MAMA Group, for immediate commencement of an amazing renovation programme.

MAMA Group are owners of major live venues including London Forum, Jazz Café and Ritz Manchester and leading UK festivals including Global Gathering, Lovebox, Wilderness festivals and many more.

Richard McGinnis explains that, “We have worked tirelessly every day since The Masque closed to bring the right deal to the table and make the venue everything it should have been. We are hitting our 13th year in The Masque next year, and finally we will be able to bring together all the great promoters in the city in a venue which Liverpool will be proud of. We have worked with MAMA in various forms over the last ten years and their success in transforming the iconic Manchester Ritz really was the trigger for us. Liverpool for too long has been second best for touring live acts and right now needs a venue of merit for local bands to aspire to play in. We are going to create that venue. We have had a few close calls and a few false starts in getting this deal across the line, so I'm over the moon finally we can announce it to everyone. We need to take time to thank Tony Mutch and Tony Rothwell, the freeholders for their incredible patience, vision and support over the last year. Without them the city would have lost this incredible space."

As part of this amazing news for Liverpool, two of its most revered clubs, Circus and Chibuku, have announced their final parties taking place across the remainder of December. Both clubs are crowning momentous years, with Yousef’s Circus reaching its X anniversary in September, and Chibuku continuing its vibrantly eclectic template. The action moves across town, from The Masque to The Camp and Furnace, utilising two of the city’s most iconic venues. More information on these events will be announced soon.

Circus Easter Party with Carl Cox @ The Masque Liverpool

Circus Easter Party
Sun 24th April @ the Masque, Liverpool

April 2011, what a month. The Royal Wedding and a late Easter have meant that there’s two
four day weekends with only three days of work separating them. And in the UK’s club scene
this can only constitute one thing and one thing alone; party time central. Circus have duly
obliged by delivering a titanic show which brings back one of their biggest stars for a full throttle
showcase. Yes indeed; Carl Cox is coming back to the Masque.

Carl returns to Circus for the first time in two years. And on this occasion it’s even more special
because he will be returning to the Theatre, for only his second performance in there after
his 2004 debut entered the club’s already rather rich folklore (it’s still many a Circus regular’s
favourite event). Since then the Funktion One has been installed, the Masque has been gloriously restored and is now the one of the premier environs to hear dance music across the country.

And, quite simply, few deliver it as better as Carl Cox.

A true icon of the scene, his acid house birth was followed by a stint as the leading DJ playing hardcore before it fragmented into drum n bass and jungle, the first point where the UK really began to forge its own identity on dance music. Since then he’s been at the forefront of house and techno, famously playing two millennium midnight DJ sets in Sydney and Hawaii, running the stunningly successful record label Intec and establishing his ‘The Revolution Continues’
and ‘And Friends’ parties as two of the premier Ibizan clubnights. A true hero and maverick, the Circus masses are in for a relentless treat.

And it wouldn’t be Circus if Cox’s friend Yousef wasn’t at the helm beside him. Nearing fifteen years in the game, Yousef will continually attest to how crucial Carl has been in his career. The support, tutelage and consistent backing for his talent since his early days at Cream makes their relationship one of the most enduring and poignant that dance music has. And what a combination the pair is, Yousef blisteringly devouring the residency at Carl’s aforementioned
Space odyssey last summer and now inviting him into his own lair to return the favour. It’ll be pure electricity in there.

Carl isn’t the only returning friend of the club; Derrick Carter’s also back in full effect. The king of house continues to jack like no other, his sound just as relevant as when it domineered over Circus’ early aesthetic. Chicago’s strongest second wave artist has recently re-launched his stellar Classic imprint, revisiting the record label which defined leftfield deep house long before the twenty first century kingpins such as Claude von Stroke, and remains a truly reverential figure within modern rave. His recently released Fabric mix CD has shown that he remains as the top of his game and is a modern classic of a true DJ with seamless transitions across genres whilst always following a groove few can better.

Butch is a German DJ and producer of considerable renown who makes his Circus debut. He has almost more accolades than he knows what to do with: Butch is the No.1 Most Charted All Time Artist with Resident Advisor and his Cecille Records No Worries track won the Pacha Ibiza 2010 Track of The Year Award, as well as it charting no.1 in Beatport, no.3 in DJ Mag and no.1 with Groove Magazine. His second album Eyes Wide Open has also made huge waves. Widely feted for a string of releases on labels including 8Bit, Great Stuff and Craft Music, he is another revered European spinner who weaves techno and house together into epic soundscapes.

The final guest comes in the shape of Motor City Drum Ensemble, the young German troubadour in possession of a truly unique vibe. Whilst many manage to plot the gaps between house, disco and techno, few do so with such characteristic difference and individuality quite like the Hamburg native. His indelible sound remains unmistakeable whether on bass heavy techno or percussive disco, and the productions continue to showcase defter skill. His Djing prowess, which ransacks the same palette of influences, is equally as beatific, making his Circus debut a must see. Support comes from Circus’ own Lewis Boardman and Scott Lewis with Dom Chung bringing his globe-trotting Future Disco to Ink.
