Kendal Calling 2014 Fancy Dress Theme Announced

Kendal Calling 2014 Fancy Dress Theme Announced

Kendal Calling 2014 Fancy Dress Theme Announced

Not resting on their laurels after winning the Best Medium Sized Festival at the prestigious UK Festival Awards, the Kendal Calling crew have been working round the clock to top last year’s record-breaking year. The Kendal Calling Goes To The Movies theme was a resounding success with a huge variety of spectacular costumes on display and we even broke the world record for the largest gathering of people dressed as superman ever, with 867 Supermen donning the famous red cape and pants!   The Kendal Calling team would have to boldly go where no man has ever gone before to make this year even better.

In 2014 the festival will transform into a dazzling alien world, as Kendal Calling brings outer space to the Lake District! This promises to be an out of this world experience where every area of the festival will be invaded by a host of science-fiction characters taking the festival-goers on a journey through the stars.

Without giving away the festival's plans too much, festival-goers can beam themselves into the Calling Out tent after the bands go home to watch some of the best space films ever made and some that might surprise!

Once again an attempt will be made to smash another world record. This year Kendal Calling hope to break the record for the largest moonwalk! No, we're not sending people into space!  Instead festival-goers should don their sparkly white gloves and embrace their inner MJ as they attempt to 'beat it.'

As always, Saturday will be fancy dress day and festival-goers are encouraged to suit up in keeping with the space theme, whether it be a character or object from across the galaxy such as Darth Vader, Spock, Barabella, Dr Who, Ziggy Stardust, Neil Armstrong, Captain Malcolm Reynolds, Michael Jackson or even a planet. Be as creative and as wacky as you like! In years gone by revellers have demonstrated brilliant ideas and imagination in designing and donning costumes transforming the ancient, tranquil Deer Park into a surreal, bouncing wonderland.

As well as the overall space themed décor, Kendal Calling will once again have a wide variety of the very best music and performance art to excite, enlighten and entertain throughout the weekend. Keep an eye out for many more Kendal Calling announcements in the near future as this multi award winning festival continues to provide the perfect backdrop for a weekend of musical merriment in the fields.

Situated in one of the most idyllic locations in the UK, Kendal Calling has quickly established a reputation as one of the most innovative festivals in the country, combining great music, good food, award winning ales and lasting memories in the outstanding surroundings of the Lake District. Last year Kendal Calling sold out in advance of the show and has sold out in each of its eight previous years.  Although the team have added a number of new and exciting developments for 2014 they have kept the event to the same capacity as the previous year, protecting the festival’s intimate feel and attention to detail for which it is renowned.

This year, not only will Kendal Calling have it’s fancy dress theme, but the whole festival will be a celebration of the movies. This promises to be a very special production where every area of the festival will take on a different movie genre taking the festival-goers on a journey through Hollywood’s cult classics and much-loved movies past & present.

Without giving too much of the plot away festival-goers can immerse themselves in the Wild West complete with it’s own Saloon bar, get their freak on in the spooky Horror area and Haunted House(party!), have an adventure in an area fit for Pirates and the likes of Peter Pan, hang out like gangsters and molls, and have a whole host of magical adventures!

Saturday will be fancy dress day yet again and festival-goers are encouraged to be get their thinking caps on for the leading role they will play this summer. In previous years revellers have showed incredible innovation and imagination in designing and donning costumes transforming the ancient Deer Park into a surreal wonderland.

As well as the movie themed décor Kendal Calling will have a vast array of performace art to excite, enlighten and entertain throughout the weekend, all in-keeping in this years movie theme. Winterwell Festival Presents ' A Journey To Hell' in London

Winterwell Festival

Winterwell Festival Presents ' A Journey To Hell' in London

The team behind boutique festival Winterwell will host a hellish Halloween shindig on Saturday 27th October at FILMPLUS, a rambling and atmospheric old brick warehouse in West London. Following on from last year’s sellout event, the party will feature a devilish line up, pervasive and interactive games and theatre with with an infernal fancy dress theme of ‘What You Might Find in Hell’

From 9pm onwards, the damned will arrive at West London’s most impressive party venue which overlooks the iconic St Mary’s Cemetry in Kensal Green, which the ghosts of romantic hero Byron’s wife and sister are said to haunt.  Guests will follow in the footsteps of Hades to a terrifying world of fire and brimstone produced by Winterwell’s unrivalled creative team.

There will be live performances set to wake the dead spanning three different rooms.   Room One will offer a great blend of house and electro with The Nextmen, DJ Lorry, Jimmy V and The Boom Brothers. The second room will offer an eclectic mix of swing, ska, rock n roll, dirty blues and soul with Count Sizzle, Konal and DJ Hoppy.  Room Three will have more of a hip hop vibe with acts including The Milk Bar Kid and Lou Young.

Set in the heart of Gloucestershire, Winterwell is a word-of-mouth festival attracting like-minded people who go for the full festival experience, not solely for big bands and names.  This year’s festival took place in June and had a wild west fancy dress theme Josh Ford, the Director of Winterwell Events, has organised music events for over ten years and Winterwell acts in recent years have included: Norman Jay, DJ Yoda, Cornershop, The Nextmen, The Stornerways, Slow Club, Fanfarlo, Animal Kingdom, Metronomy and many more.   With the festival going from strength to strength, Winterwell is already a firm fixture in the true festival lover’s calendar.

So decadent that they are thinking of renaming Halloween Hallowell, get your ticket for this party early as it will be out of this world….

BoomTown festival announce theme and new stages

BoomTown Announce New Stages, Venues, and Out Of This World Fancy Dress Theme!

THURDAY 9th – SUNDAY 12th AUGUST 2012
MATTERLY ESTATE – WINCHESTER
Tier four weekend tickets - £116 + eco deposit
TICKETS AVAILABLE FROM: BoomTownfair.co.uk

Check out the epic 2012 video here – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ViY1NF7svS0

With tickets flying out faster than rockets from a space ship, BoomTown have announced that over 70% of their tickets have now been snapped up by the eager beaver, fun-loving town’s folk! With only ‘tier four’ tickets available, tier’s 1, 2, 3 and all teen tickets are fully sold out! Now seems like the best time to reveal that the fancy dress theme will be... Outer Space! Along with the theme BoomTown can outline the plans for 15 new venues and extra terrestrial areas, attractions and adventures.

Known for its fully immersive environment, BoomTown’s theme is not merely reserved for one day of the festival, but provides a starting point for the towns folk to create the character they wish to become for the whole festival. With last year’s theme ruling the town for the entire 4-days and nights, the outfits were outrageous, extrovert and outlandish where every single person added to the overriding atmosphere and escapism of the festival! This year’s Outer Space theme will be no different! With the mothership Arcadia crash landing onsite, strange creatures infesting the surrounding woodlands and mutated vehicles patrolling the landscape, the aliens are walking amongst us and if you can’t beat ‘em, may as well blow up a pair of marigolds, stick them on your head, spray yourself silver and join in!

In addition to the theme, BoomTown devote a lot of time and creativity developing the most interactive playground of them all; a stage for all the crazy characters; a film set for the actor within; a zoo for the unleashed animals, whatever you want to call it, BoomTown is a place like no-other! This year there will be 15 more bonkers venues springing up across the various streets of BoomTown: hidden deep in the underbelly of Downtown, propping up the rickety walls of Oldtown and gracing the marbled streets of May-fair Avenue, each just waiting with a whole array of new secret shenanigans to be uncovered...

As well as the addition of 15 new quirky and unique venues to get lost in, there are a selection of additional stages including Arcadia, Bearded Kitten’s Bank and the Hidden Woods. Already announced, Arcadia have been flat out devising their biggest show to date to include huge whirlwind fire shows, gravity defying suspended artists, electrifying lightening duels and more smoke, metal and lasers than ever before!

Bearded Kitten presents...The Bank, BoomTown are thrilled to welcome the award winning Bearded Kitten back into the fold! After the rip roaring success of last year’s tip top night spot, The Gentleman’s Club, 2012 sees The Bearded Boys hosting a plethora of lawn-based mischief all day in their brand new outdoor arena and unveil the grand opening the very first branch of the Boomtown bank! Expect array of financial fun, games, activities and general silliness followed by late-night knees-ups in the Gentleman’s parlour!

The Hidden Woods stage, set in the glorious leafed canopy of the surrounding woodland tucked away from the chaos, will present some of the finest live dub and reggae bands and provide the perfect place to sit back, relax and lose yourself!
On top of the new stages, the town committee have been given the go ahead to expand the city into a huge luscious new area for more camping, with access to the town being only a short walk along the beautiful wooded walkway. The ever growing craft and healing field has also expanded this year with new additions including saunas, hot tubs, psytrance and chillout areas.

At the same times as building the sets, town planning and concocting fancy dress outfits, the BoomTown crew have also been busy adding to the already bursting line-up and can now give a sneaky teaser that the ultimate secret headline act is locked in for Sunday night, but the anticipation will have to grow as their lips are sealed until July!

Boom Town is rapidly turning into Boom City and the 2012 fair is set to be on a whole new level of Madness!

BoomTown 2012 is over the weekend of 9 – 12th August, for more info or to buy tickets please visit: www.BoomTownfair.co.uk

Bestival, Robin Hill Country Park, Isle Of Wight – 6th to 9th September 2012
www.bestival.net
@bestival
facebook.com/bestivalfestival
With some rather handsome Bestival announcements on the horizon, the mighty Rob da Bank and the Bestival crew are so excited that we just can’t contain ourselves! So, with that in mind, we’re going to ‘leak’ a few choice nuggets of loveliness for your delectation with 12 new things for Bestival 2012 including our untamed fancy dress theme and a tantalising touch of live news.

Rob da Bank says: "I’ve never been pestered so much on Twitter and even in clubs and on the street about who’s playing Bestival this year so we thought we'd better start the proceedings. Legendary brothers of rave Paul and Phil Hartnoll aka Orbital are the first act who have self-announced themselves today…and what a classic to kick off on. As ever the theme of Bestival is a hotly debated topic - this year its Wildlife - so maybe you're thinking foxes, badgers or flamingos or go a bit more lateral and think of wild men and women, hedonists and crazy people? It’s an open book as ever. More news very soon!”

So, without further ado, here’s what’s brand new this year!

1) The theme for Bestival 2012 is Wildlife…We want you to unleash the party beast from the hinterlands of your imagination, covering Robin Hill with some properly wild things, from fantastic fauna, kings of the jungle and even organisms aplenty to just the outrageously wild... The sky is far from the limit of what can happen when you get amongst the wildlife….And we will also be launching our very own Insect Museum and Animal Tug of War.

2) Barter for Bestival – can’t afford a ticket? Then barter yourself to us for a few hours to help with an IOW charity legacy project in exchange for a free Bestival ticket! 50 people from far and wide will get the opportunity to help create a community allotment space working with Natural Enterprise.  Applications will open on 20th February when full details are announced so watch this space.?

3) Film is coming to Bestival in 2012 – new for 2012 are the Lost Picture Show – a vintage cinema to take you back to the golden age of movie going, plus Rob da Bank will be rescoring the 1930s original of King Kong at the brand new Amphitheatre performance space in the Woods with more film collaborations to be announced soon.

4) Soul Park – our new and expanded Healing Area will feature unique spaces for yoga, massage, relaxation, hammocks and meditation with the David Lynch Foundation plus wood-burning Scandinavian hot tubs and a sauna area.  Perfectly calm for when you just need to relax a little and refresh to get your positive energy recharged.?

5) Arcadia Mechanical Cabaret – not content with having invented the crazy mechanical spider that spits flames and has scared the living pants off us at the last few Bestis, Arcadia have now trawled the world for brand new structures and insane fire art to wow us with, much of it from Burning Man.

6) Young British Foodies – We’ve got the country’s finest young chefs, street food vendors, bakers and mixologists all under one roof! Winners of the nationwide search for the most talented Young British Foodies will be joined by the YBF all-star foodie judges to create a never-been-done-before, spectacular eating experience.

7) The Bollywood Bar is having a complete Josie da Bank makeover – with an old London bus being transformed into a Bollywood chill out bar in full Indian colours and the inside getting a cinematic Bollywood lick of paint.

8) Grand Palace of Entertainment – roll up roll up, we’ve cranked up the fun factor with this new venue! Expect twisted cabaret, raucous games and quizzes, dancing-lycra-clad-bearded trannies and multicolored, glitter strewn, late night parties. ?

9) More camping space – yes we may not be expanding on capacity onsite cos we know we’re the right size but we will be creating much more space for you… check out this aerial picture showing you all the new land we’ve taken.

10) Create a bloco for the Bestival Carnival – Your chance to unite with other festi-goers and get creative! We are inviting you to form your own bloco and be part of ourcarnival parade on Saturday afternoon. From fabulous costumes, to drumming, dancing and giant puppets, we can’t wait to see what delights you come up with! Details of how to enter coming soon.

11) Cycle To Bestival – emulate mighty Mark Cavendish with a truly Olympic effort to ride almost 100miles from Central London to Bestival…and raise cash for charity. More details will be available at the end of the month but you can get in training now if sounds like fun to you… on yer bike Bestivalites. ?

12) Rob da Bank’s Music Club - Are you a rock star in the making? Head to Rob da Bank’s Music Club to find out! This project, set up in partnership with the Isle of Wight Youth Trust, is coming to Robin Hill to offer up a brilliant selection music and arts workshops.

As well as all the brand spanking fresh stuff there’s going to be a healthy dose of unbridled joy on the dancefloor too, as Bestival are overjoyed to declare that dance music legends Orbital will be crossing the Solent to join us for an epicurean adventure, or as we used to call it a proper rave up, headlining the Big Top on Sunday night! Renowned for their festival annihilating brilliance and a dashing line in torch specs, the brothers Hartnoll are true pioneers of dance music and with a brand new album, ‘Wonky’ currently getting the critics all giddy, you can expect nothing less than a legendary set!

With many more acts to announce for Bestival 2012 and to build just a touch of anticipation for our headline announcements, Rob da Bank will be taking to his trusty Twitter announcing an act a day until mid-February when we’ll be announcing some headliner news. Until then, make sure you check the Twitter feed for news on some of the many acts that will be gracing Bestival 2012 with their presence.
