For this year’s Liverpool Sound City festival, Bella Union are doing a showcase at the Bombed Out Church, and have got a special appearance by Eric Pulido from Midlake.
It promises to be a fantastic night, with two of the hottest names on the business.
Eric says: “When a festival gives me an opportunity to talk about music with one of my favourite people on the planet (Simon Raymonde), and then lets me do a solo set, they become one of the greatest festivals in existence in my book.”
So, what can we expect from Eric at LSC?
“Little to nothing, that way nobody is disappointed,” he laughs. “I'm humbled and excited to be a part of LSC and just hope that tomatoes aren't thrown at me.”
This year has been a more relaxed one for Eric and the band.
“We've been recording our next (unnamed) record and enjoying being home with our wives (one each) and families,” he explains.
“I planted a garden this year and bought some chickens. I see it as just the beginning to me becoming a full-fledged farmer.
“Of course this will not get in the way of Midlake finishing our next record this year and popping our heads out of the studio for some shows here and there.”
Simon Raymonde adds: “The venue choice, of the Bombed Out Church, will be the perfect setting for all of the artists we have playing. An atmospheric room with wonderful acoustics, for music that is soulful, uplifting and enchanting.
“It’s my opinion that truly great live bands are fairly thin on the ground today and I am proud to have a roster that not only releases great albums but also produces memorable nights out. Fleet Foxes, Midlake, Explosions In The Sky, Andrew Bird, Dirty Three, The Walkmen, Beach House have all been developing their craft over the last few years, and the artists we have performing at the Church for LSC are all exceptional talents who you will be hearing a lot more of in the next couple of years.”
