New E.P. Release from Motion Theory

‘IT’S NOT AS DARK AS THAT, FRIEND’ -  9th July 2011
UK SHOWS JULY
Motion Theory announce It’s not as dark as that, Friend , the eagerly-anticipated 5-track EP, successor to the award-winning debut album.  The band has confirmed a string of shows in July.
The alt-rock four piece, called “Manchester’s reigning head-boys of cerebral heavy rock” by the Manchester Evening News, is Dom Main (“clear vocal talent” - Subba Cultcha) on vocals, Jamie Wesley (Emergenza’s Best Manchester Guitarist) on guitar, James Kerr (“superb”-  Manchester Music) on bass and Will Soutter (“awesome”- Progarchives) on drums.
Main says “We have been living in 3 different cities for the last year, so the material was written in a couple of intensive writing retreats, just 10 days in all.  Maybe that helped us focus, because we are really happy with how the songs turned out and we can’t wait to play them live.”   Wesley adds "If where, when and why you write music affects the result then this record is going to be all over the place, hopefully in a good way!"
Motion Theory originally formed at Durham University in 2008.  They released a debut EP that year and an album, ‘featherhead’ in 2009 that won Manchester Music Record of the Week.   In between their studies they toured the UK twice and in late 2010 they were runners up in the North West Regional Breakout festival where the judges called their live performances “excellent”.
Kerr observes that "Although it is has not been without its difficulties, for the first time in our career we have been able to fully put across on record what we're all about musically. We've learnt a lot in the last three years and this release represents a big step for us.”  Soutter agrees: “The recording process has been a real challenge this time around, as we've all been in different places. It's been fun though, and I think we've pulled it off - the record has come out sounding immense. It's certainly a marked improvement over the last release, and is probably the best piece of recorded music I've ever been involved in."
