SWEET JANE follow up a great month supporting Suede and touring in the UK and Asia, with another career highlight when they take to the 2fm/Hotpress/Academy stage at Oxegen on Saturday at 3.30. Their shows in Asia won the band many admirers amongst the international industry in attendance, and many fans as well. Plaudits also continue to roll in for their album, Sugar For My Soul, from the UK, and the recent new RTE cookery series, Kitchen Hero made liberal use of music from that album. While busy in the studio recording for their second album, Sweet Jane are looking forward to their appearance at Oxegen, and at Glasgowbury on July 23rd.
While Sweet Jane’s career is very much in the ascendant, it’s great to see The Blades music kept alive 25 years after their demise, as the Readers No 1 choice in leading UK music magazine Mojo last month, and their name unexpectedly appearing in a Nike soccer ad ‘Before and After Ronaldo’, where a mock-up of a poster for The Blades at the Baggot Inn appears among exalted company of other past geniuses, including Copernicus, Newton, and Gallilleo!! Even more strange as the ad was made far from these shores in Argentina, and focuses on Brazilian soccer stars! Check it out at 0.35 secs
