Monday 14th May 2012; Tom Hingley, the former ‘glory days’ singer of Manchester’s Inspiral Carpets (1989-2011 – yes all the hits!) has announced a UK tour in September 2012 with his band ‘The Lovers’,
Tom Hingley with be performing the Inspiral Carpets’ second album, ‘The Beast Inside’ that reached No. 5 in the UK charts in 1991. The majority of these songs haven’t been heard for many years, a deep record that has always had a special place in the heart of true Inspiral fans.
“It’s 20 years since this album came out, a celebration and exploration of a record that has always been very popular with the fans and just about as far as away as you can get from playing the greatest hits. It’s an enterprise that anyone involved in the record should be proud of” Tom Hingley.
Tom Hingley will also be reading excerpts from his Inspiral Carpets biography, ‘Carpet Burns’. The book documents Hingley’s years with the band and beyond and the Manchester scene in the late eighties and early nineties. From performances on Top Of The Tops, touring and festivals, plus what really happened following his split from life with one of Indie’s biggest bands. Tom will also sign copies after each performance on the tour.
The official book launch of ‘Carpet Burns’ takes place on Friday 27th July at the Martin Harris Centre of Music and Drama (University of Manchester) where Tom Hingley will also be interviewed by Mike Joyce (The Smiths / Beatwolf Radio). Doors 7.30pm (8pm start). Tickets £5.00 - £7.00 from the venue box office or quaytickets.com.
