Ibiza and Mallorca Rocks bring 3 of the coolest bands this September

The ‘Rocks’ summer line up is being widely hailed as the best EVER and there’s more to come. Arguably THE most important and influential three bands of three different decades will descend on the Balearics for hugely anticipated sun-soaked shows in September.  THE most highly influential and critically acclaimed band of the eighties – New Order; THE band that broke the musical boundaries and brought guitars onto the dance floor in the noughties – Bloc Party and THE biggest breakthrough band of the moment – Two Door Cinema Club.

Bloc Party are back in a big way to make their ‘Rocks’ debut as part of their hugely anticipated return to the live scene.  This will be one of their first live gigs, fresh from releasing their fourth studio album  ‘FOUR’  on 20th August -  a real coup for Rocks, and the fans given the bands absence from the UK festival scene this summer.  Ibiza Rocks was born out of a concept to create a night for dance kids who wanted to rock and rock kids who wanted to dance.  The East London art rockers, fronted by Kele Okereke, are the very essence of that.  This gig has been a long time coming for team ‘Rocks’  and it’s a huge honour to be bringing one of the bands that influenced the brand, Bloc Party, to the Balearics for the very first time. The lineup also includes one of the hottest breaking bands on the scene, Alt-J and Rocks Music Director Zane Lowe joining in for the Ibiza show.

They made history in Ibiza before and they are set to do it all over again in September when New Order deliver what is set to be THE seminal moment of the summer and their first ever live gig in Ibiza.  New Order were the pioneering force behind electronic music, largely responsible for opening the world famous Hacienda Club in Manchester in 1982 and for 1983 hit Blue Monday, the best-selling 12 inch single of all time.  Their 5th album Technique (1989) was recorded in Ibiza and perfectly blends Balearic beats and acid house influences into their electro/rock sound.  They have influenced generations of hit making musicians the world over ever since.

Bernard Sumner, New Order says "The last time New Order were in Ibiza was the second summer of love. We were there to record an album and didn't really know what we were walking into. By the time we left a few months later New Order, the Happy Mondays and the Hacienda had collided and fused with the Balearics and Ibiza's superclubs. Manchester had become 'Madchester', and dance music had made a quantum leap.  Although we didn't spend much time in the studio we left with the basis of our album Technique.  New Order and Ibiza are forever entwined. There's no going back so instead we look forward -to playing our first ever concert on the island at Ibiza Rocks."

Northern Irish trio Two Door Cinema Club have rapidly become one of the biggest new success stories across the globe since releasing their debut album ‘Tourist History’ in 2010. After selling out headline tours in the UK, US, Europe, Australia, Asia, Japan and South America, absolutely smashing the festival circuit with stand-out sets all summer and earning themselves headliner status of the NME Awards Tour 2012, the band have deservedly earned both a devoted live following and huge critical acclaim. Another highlight came when frontman Alex Trimble performed to a global audience of over a billion at the London 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony, after being specially invited by Danny Boyle to sing the vocals on Caliban’s Dream. New album ‘Beacon’ is released 3rd September and what a way to celebrate than with the trio’s hotly anticipated gig to mark the end of a sizzling 16 week season of live music at the Rocks Closing Parties.

Kevin Baird, Two Door Cinema Club said: “We're very excited to be playing Ibiza and Mallorca Rocks. We've never performed over on the sunshine isle so it's going to be a fun show. We've spoken to other artists who have performed there in the past and it's supposed to be a crazy party! Looking forward to it."

Shane Murray, Ibiza Rocks Promoter, said: “We're really excited and exceptionally proud to be bringing these three bands to make their live debuts on the Rocks stages in September.  Each one of them has influenced what we do.  It’s incredible to have legends like New Order choose Rocks for their first ever live show in Ibiza.  Bloc Party inspired Ibiza Rocks as a brand and to close with Two Door Cinema Club - the most exciting new band in the world right now, it just doesn’t get any better.

The Ibiza Rocks brand consistently boasts a bill crammed with the biggest international artists and breakthrough talent live under the Balearic stars and offers a choice of quality accommodation options in Mallorca and Ibiza at exceptional value.  Summer 2012 will see 32 ‘Rocks’ gigs across 16 consecutive weeks.  Mallorca Rocks every Tuesday from 05 June – 18 September.  Ibiza Rocks every Wednesday from 06 June to 19 September.
