MusicMafia presents Kagoule

Last year Kagoule’s demo ‘Made of Concrete’ was played on both Radio 1 and XFM.  Now they are set to release their debut double-A single ‘Monarchy’ b/w ‘Mudhole’ as limited 7” vinyl via Denizen Recordings on 25th February. The release is part of a run of singles leading to Kagoule’s debut album release later this year.

Kagoule’s music is a dreamlike, fuzz laden wall of sound. A warm, visceral noise which can quickly and effortlessly morph into glassy guitar chimes and melody, all carried along by a relentless - and at times hook-laden - sound of pounding drums and driving bass - all indicative in the building, all immersing ‘Mudhole’.

‘Monarchy’ plays a slight homage to 90s grunge, raising comparisons to Smashing Pumpkins with its echoes of headily heavy choruses laced with darkly ominous lyrics that are at the same time fantastical, and also bleakly direct - an unsettling mixture, delivered with a melodic sensibility all of their own.

It’s a sound at home also with American alternative bands, such as Fugazi. And like the aforementioned, live Kagoule’s sound implodes to create mosh pits reminiscent of the late punk scene, most recently seen when they supported Iceage, a show which still went ahead, despite drummer Lawrence breaking his wrist the day before the gig.

Live Dates:

16th Feb -  Nottingham, Chameleon (Single Launch Show)
26th Feb - Leicester, Cookie Jar (with Kappa Gamma)
27th Feb - Leeds, Nation of Shopkeepers (with Kappa Gamma and The Engine)
28th Feb - Manchester, Trof Fallowfield (with Kappa Gamma)
