Liverpool band Matchstickmen Start Work On Second Album

Anthemic Liverpudlian Rockers MATCHSTICKMEN have returned to the studio to begin recording the follow-up to their debut 2011 MainLine Records/Code7 Distribution release "Through Hell...And Kept Going". This will be the first recording featuring drummer Mark O'Brien who has been performing live with the band since early 2012 but has never appeared on a Matchstickmen release.

Matchstickmen frontman Lewis Wright commented: "This is shaping up to be some of the most raw and aggressive sounding material this band has ever written. It felt like the next logical step forward as our last EP "A Change In Season" had more of a kick to it compared to our first album and it received some pretty decent reviews. It's a direction we are all happy with and it feels like a natural progression for the band".

"The new songs have a great deal of diversity to them and we have used  a variety of different vocal and instrumental techniques and a variety of different time signatures that we've never tried before. Working with a great drummer has added a new dynamic to our writing process. We have decided to record the album at Castle Rock Studios with engineers Adam Stokel and Bradley Nevinson. We'd heard good things about the studio and as they say... a change is as good as a rest".

Castle Rock Studios in Alderley Edge, near Manchester is a brand new facility encompassing Recording and Rehearsal studios set in a 2 acre location close to Wilmslow, Cheshire. Designed and constructed within a large house, the facility boasts well proportioned rooms all fully tie-lined via a Central Patch System and state-of-the-art audio and video systems.

Matchstickmen guitarist Peter Donnelly added: "The band has changed so the music has changed. We're taking our time on this one because we're encountering things in songs we haven't tried before but have always wanted to. We're like kids in a toy shop, we've got free raine to experiment so we're gonna brew up something good".

MATCHSTICKMEN will take a quick break from working on the new album to hit the road this summer and play a number of festivals which includes a headline slot at the first day of the Blackthorn Music Festival on Friday 26th July 2013 in Compstall.

The as yet to be titled ful-length new album is scheduled to be released by the end of 2014.  A new single will precede its release.
