Africa Oyé 2013 - JAY (Cape Verde) Announced To Play Festival

With just over 3 weeks to go till Africa Oyé descends on Sefton Park in Liverpool, we have some exciting news from festival director, Paul Duhaney following his recent visit to the Atlantic Music Expo in Praia, Cape Verde...

"One of Oyé’s missions in recent years has been to bring a band from Cape Verde to the festival, so when we were recently invited to the beautiful and picturesque capital city Praia for the Atlantic Music Expo in April we were delighted to witness a fantastic performance by a young, local band called JAY during the showcases. We were so impressed by the show that we immediately began to explore the possibility of bringing them over for two performances at Africa Oyé 2013 and amazingly we have succeeded!

This happening has been made possible largely due to the help and support of ex-musician and Cape Verde Minister of Culture Mario Lucio Sousa, The Cape Verde Music Export Office, and the band's manager Augusto Veiga who have all played their part in helping and funding the band to get to Liverpool. The band will also host an exclusive workshop with pupils at long term Oyé partners Booker Avenue Junior School in South Liverpool during their stay in the city. Oyé are proud to be promoting Cape Verdean music, artists and culture here in Liverpool and of course it goes without saying it's a wonderful place to visit.

Jay is a singer/songwriter and producer. His music is a unique mixture of styles including Hip-Hop and Reggae. He performs with his band which he has put together with seven young accomplished Cape Verdean musicians. He was nominated and won in three categories at the Cape Verdean Music Awards for best hip hop, reggae, and electronica albums. This amazing young band are finishing their latest album, which is being produced in Cape Verde ahead of a world wide release"
