Mark Morriss is the singer songwriter who famously made his name as the voice of Britain’s classic guitar pop band,The Bluetones. Mark fronted the four piece who scored fourteen top ten singles and three top ten albums, whilst touring the world. For their send off, 2011 tour, thousands of loyal Bluetones fans turned out to give the band they called their own, a fond and sad farewell.
Mark continued his already popular solo career and is a national treasure acknowledged as one of the hardest working gentlemen in pop. After releasing ‘Memory Muscle' (2008) he had kept working on a new album, recorded with Ed Sheeran’s producer, Gordon Mills Jr. The result, ‘A Flash Of Darkness’, was created with a 100% Pledge from fans in 24 hours. It is a defining accomplishment which is due for release in 2014 on Acid Jazz Records. This evening's show launches things with an intimate show in Fitzrovia's decadent drinking den to preview the first release.
"Simon and Garfunkel with an Irish twist"... When Greg Marshall decided to climb, uninvited, upon the stage already occupied by Darren Morrissey and his (former) band to accompany him, the ensuing vocal duet created the magical moment that Morrissey & Marshall were born. They have been writing and performing together ever since with their irresistible harmonies drawing favouriable comparisons to The Everly Brothers. They moved from their Dublin home town to London and made a name for themselves with such a captivating reputation that they won a number of residencies in some of the capitals legendary venues, and a loyal following. They've toured the UK and Ireland, played a number of festivals (including Hop Farm and Electric Picnic) and also for the athletes at the Olympics 2012 opening.
Morrissey and Marshall recently released their debut; 'I've Got A Plan' (iTunes). It raised their game from people starting to sit up and take notice to TV appearances and an Irish chart hit single. Now back from a tour with The Magic Numbers they are currently in the studio recording their debut album due for release in early 2014. 'People are drawn to their song-writing, the clever melodies and in particular the sound of their voices singing in unison – simply beautiful.'(Louder Than War). 'Fantastically engaging and a remarkably large sound for only two people' (Supajam)
James Fisher was such a highlight and star when he appeared at The Lucky Pig last year, he was the perfect choice for a night which features artists who have all played more than once for Playhard because we highly recommend their shows.
From lead guitar, backing vocals and song writing with underground legendary rock band, Officer Kicks, James Fisher worked magic at his first solo set in 2011. He hasn't looked back and continues to receive fantastic reactions to his, engaging, charismatic songs. In the last year he has appeared at City Showcase Festival and Norway's Nova Festival (where one of his demos was A listed before he has officially released anything). James has also supported Goldheart Assembly and The Carnabys, spent much of the last year writing a very personal album also due for 2014 release, and charmed the seeds of a following.
