Soul star Alice Russell returns to Liverpool Kazimier
Launching The Kazimier’s newly founded and carefully curated events series; the enticing Alice Russell will be gracing our stage as she makes her long awaited return to Liverpool on the back of a seamless new album.
With the recent release of her 5 th solo album, ‘To Dust’, Alice Russell marks the next step forward in a remarkable career which has seen this diminutive Brit universally acknowledged as one of the best soul voices of our time. Previously collaborating with the likes of Roy Ayres, Mr Scruff, Quantic, Nostalgia 77, TM Juke, her new album has reached new artistic heights and merited gleaming reviews from such outlets as BBC and Rolling Stone, symbolising one of the most exciting periods of her already accomplished career.
Support comes from songstress Ragz Nordset and more TBA soon.
“Nordic siren with an enchanting voice and haunting melodies” - Liverpool Sound City
"Catastrophically beautiful" - Altsounds
“spellbindingly magnificent" - The Fly
Ragz possesses a sweet, soaring voice known to captivate and move her audience. An acoustic favourite for a number of years, she has supported the likes of Wild Beasts, Foy Vance and Laura Marling. Her most recent EP - Sleepdancing was released earlier this year on NuNorthern Soul. Be sure to arrive at the Kazimier early for a rare acoustic set from the Norwegian chanteuse.
Music between the acts comes from the Beaten Tracks DJs, renowned for framing a diverse selection of live acts, in addition to being resident DJs at Mellowtone. They champion the rare, the dusty and the forgotten... expect funk, soul, reggae, latin, hip-hop, blues and jazz; left-field beats and soulful enlightenment.
The night s also supported by Liverool-based independent record label, NuNorthern Soul. With no specific musical boundaries, Phil Cooper's NuNorthern Soul label is about presenting a rich tapestry of music, not restricted by genre or production techniques. A natural extension to his long-running NNS nights and podcast series ... it is not a Soul music label, but a label for music WITH Soul.
