Jesus Jones celebrate 25th Anniversary with The Doubt Tour

Jesus Jones exploded onto the music scene with the release of their single “Info Freako” 25 years ago, but it was with the release of their second album “Doubt”, in 1990, that they hit paydirt. Just 18 months after appearing at the bottom of the bill at London’s Bull and Gate club, and playing to a dozen people, they now found themselves catapulted into the spotlight. “Doubt” quickly became a phenomenon, entering the UK charts at No. 1, and spawning 4 UK Top 40 hits. Worldwide, it was the same story, as the band toured the record relentlessly, from Canada (where it quickly went Platinum), to Europe, Japan, and Australia.

The band’s biggest success however came in the US, as the album went Gold, and then Platinum, selling well over a million copies. Their single “Right Here Right Now” became a huge hit, eventually topping the US charts. “Real Real Real” followed it straight into the US Top 5. They played to sold out venues, and ecstatic crowds wherever they went.

Now, it’s time to revisit the album that made them famous, for the first time. This comes on the back of their self-released DVD “Liquidizer - Live!”, where they played their iconic debut album in full for the first time in a special one-off gig at the Bull & Gate, before the legendary club was bulldozed last year. Says singer Mike Edwards: “We had never played any of our albums in full before, ever. So, when we did “Liquidizer”, it was a great experience - we discovered songs we’d forgotten, that we absolutely loved. We can’t wait to get out there and do the same with “Doubt”

The tour will have added significance, as it sees the entire original line up of the band back together for the first time in fifteen years. Original drummer Simon “Gen” Matthews has rejoined the band he left back in 1997. Says Edwards: “It’s great having Gen back, as it means for the tour, when people come to see us, they can see the same band they saw all those years ago. No changes, no stand-ins, we’re the same five guys. After 25 years, it’s just us. That feels really good”
