One of the most iconic night clubs in Liverpool, The State brings ‘Mid Summer Nights Madness’ to the city on Saturday 5th July 2014. Celebrating the golden years of music from 1982 to 1989. Expect the likes of Echo and The Bunnymen, The Cult and New Order till 1am and then acid house till 3am. With a secret aftershow party till 10am - location revealed on the night.

With original DJs Mike Knowler, Andy Carroll and Frank Cookson and a special live PA with MC Kinky and E-Zee Possee (‘Everything Starts With An ‘E’’).

The night is promoted by Liverpool DJ Andy Carroll and Derek Hazell, band manager of Liverpool band The Sums, responsible for bringing Frankie Goes To Hollywood’s Paul Rutherford to Garlands last year and The Farm’s Magical Mystery Rave.

I was a regular at The State back in the 80’s. The State has become the soundtrack to my life so it’s been a dream come true to bring an original eighties party back to such a loved club. We’d really love to track down the original ‘State’ red neon sign though and there’s a guest list and a bottle of champagne to anyone who can help us” says Derek.

In the 80s The State played host to bands like Big Audio Dynamite, New Order and Frankie Goes to Hollywood not to mention the UK’s first laser disco, then in the 90s, it was the club where acid house landed in Liverpool. A far cry from the genteel tea rooms of the 1940s.
