The Selecter announce 35th Anniversary Too Much Pressure Tour

Iconic Ska Legends The Selecter have announced that they will celebrate their 35th anniversary with an extensive 26-date UK tour in February, March and April 2014, performing their seminal debut album ‘Too Much Pressure’ in its entirety for the first time ever.

Released on the legendary 2-Tone label, ‘Too Much Pressure’ was a Top 5 selling album featuring a host of timeless classics, including ‘Three Minute Hero’, ‘Missing Words’ and course ‘Too Much Pressure’ - all of which were released on Top 40 charting singles.

The 'Too Much Pressure' 35th Anniversary Tour will also feature an extended encore of hits and live favorites from across The Selecter’s extensive 35-year spanning back catalogue, including their timeless debut 1979 Top 10 smash hit, ‘On My Radio’, right up to the this year’s critically acclaimed ‘String Theory’.

Pauline Black says, "We thought our 35th anniversary would be the perfect time to revisit our very first album Too Much Pressure and perform it in full...for the very first time! We can't wait to get on the road to bring our message of multiculturalism from across 4 decades to venues up and down the land. See you there!"

The past few years have seen a huge resurgence in the popularity of The Selecter, with new material being released alongside a relentless touring schedule which has taken the band play numerous gigs and festivals across Europe, undertake no less than 3 trips to the USA (including being picked as the Desert Sun’s highlight of the 2013 Coachella festival) and even performing as far afield as Australia and Canada.

Still as outspoken and politically articulate as ever, The Selecter are both tied to, and very proud of, their past, to the acknowledgement of 2-Tone and all that it meant to their fans and the wider music community.

Marc Almond to join host of artists to celebrate Marc Bolan’s 35th Anniversary

Marc Almond will join a stellar line-up of artists for a special concert to mark the 35th anniversary of Marc Bolan’s death, it was announced today.

Organised by the PRS for Music Members Benevolent Fund, it will also feature former T. Rex producer Tony Visconti and Howie Casey, the band’s saxophonist. The concert will take place on the 15th September at the 02 Shepherd’s Bush Empire in London.

The line-up spans the most pivotal decades in British musical history across glam rock, new romantic and punk and includes, Glen Matlock from the Sex Pistols, Rick Wakeman, Alvin Stardust, Boy George, Danielz and T.Rextasy, Cockney Rebel’s Steve Harley, Andy Ellison and Linda Lewis. The audience will be treated to some fantastic performances and special duets, which Marc Almond will be a part of.

As a successful and acclaimed artist, Marc Almond has sold over 30 million records worldwide and is an icon and influence to a generation of musicians.

On being part of the 35th anniversary concert, Marc Almond said: “It’s a privilege to be asked to be a part of something so special. Marc Bolan was an amazing artist and person. It will be a fantastic night to commemorate Marc and T.Rex”.

The Members Benevolent Fund has been helping songwriters and composers in crisis due to illness, disability, older age-related and financial difficulties for 78 years. Since 1977 when Marc Bolan tragically died, a share of his song royalties has been paid to the PRS for Music Members Benevolent Fund, enabling his music legacy to assist and inspire thousands of other songwriters.

The Fund has also been caring for families since 1934 and is committed to providing help to those in need. The changing nature of the music industry and increasing pressures on living standards and health mean the Fund’s role will prove particularly vital for many artists over the coming years. The Marc Bolan 35th anniversary concert is the perfect platform to celebrate the Fund’s efforts and raise funds for future of this important organisation and the hard work it does.

The charity event is supported by PRS for Music which has over 90,000 songwriter, composer and music publisher members, collecting and paying royalties to them whenever their music is played, performed or reproduced.
