Blood Sport unveil new track 'Palomar' ahead of their forthcoming album

Blood Sport have announced details of their new six-track LP, entitled ‘Life In Units’ and out on September 9th, 2013.

Formed in 2010 over a mutual love of David Byrne and Brian Eno's classic album ‘My Life In The Bush of Ghosts’,Blood Sport is an arresting concoction of hypnotic Afro-beat and African guitar styles such as Soukous and Juju, locked grooves, and the raw energy of post-punk. The result is a noisy, rhythmic strain of experimental rock so unique that the band have come to dub it ‘aggro-beat’.

The underground success of their EPs ‘Fruits’ (released through Tye Die Tapes) and 'Ø' have earned the band a broad fan base; while their legendary part-improvised and completely uninterrupted live sets have seen them earn their stripes as not only regulars at DIY warehouse nights throughout the UK, but also sharing stages with artists as diverse as Alt-J, Django Django, Ghost Poet and Kanda Bongo Man. This year also saw Blood Sport being hand-picked to tour with Drenge and as well as an appearance at this year’s ‘Detestival’ event.

 Their live set, a continuous wave of sound for 30 minutes, shifts and adapts with its surroundings, its energy propelled by relentless polyrhythms. They have a chameleon-like ability to evolve between wild and noisy or clean and reserved, dependent on the audience.

Meticulous planners with an (often unexplained) reason behind literally everything they do, Blood Sport are now set to release their full length LP ‘Life In Units’, an album that only builds upon the differentiated sounds of ‘Fruits', and shows an increasing interest in minimal repetition, drawn out grooves, and a hypnotic complexity.

Caught somewhere between the surreal distorted vocals and sinister pulse of opening track ‘The Woodcutter’ and the rich guitars of album closer ‘Dry Water’ lies an erratic collection of trance-inducing beats, sun-soaked guitar riffs and grainy effected vocals in tracks inspired by such varied topics as seven- year old beauty queen Honey Boo Boo, and Ghanaian sci-fi film 202002016.

Recorded entirely in analogue and to tape with Karl Sveinsson (Gnod) at Queens Ark Audio and mastered by Dean Honer (Human League, I Monster) ‘Life In Units’ will be the first official launch on Blood Sport’s own imprint Hybrid Vigour Records this September.

Wolf People, Toy, Hawk Eyes and more announced for Wet Nuns festival Detestival

Hell-raising duo Wet Nuns, in association with KRAKEN RUM and THRONG OF NOBS, have announced the full line-up for their very own festival, 'Detestival', this coming March 2013.

The monster line-up for the two-day festival is now confirmed as Wolf People, Toy, Hawk Eyes, Bo Ningen, Wet Nuns, Temples, Hookworms, Black Moth, Throng, Kult Country, John J Presley, Salem Rages, Blood Sport, Temple of Coke, Dry Heaves and Flaming Skulls.

The festival takes place at Queen’s Social Club in Sheffield over the Easter weekend of March 30th and 31st, with limited weekend tickets available now for just £14 in advance from harleylive.co.uk/ticket-shop, seetickets,com, and other selected outlets.

The line-up for Detestival was exclusively hand-picked by Wet Nuns and with the support of Kraken Rum. This is what the band had this to say about their very first Detestival;

“One of the best things about being in a band, along with substandard motorway food, unimaginable inter-gig boredom, fractured relationships and soul crushing financial sacrifice, is the opportunity to play alongside and witness other bands.

Detestival is basically an incredibly selfish opportunity for us to put on what we think is the best line up of bands in the UK, every single band performing on the weekend we have either played with or seen in the last couple of years. We adore and hate every single band with a fiery intensity, they are all far too good and talented and we hate and love them for it. Now we have created an opportunity for us to play with them all, in the city where we have honed our sloppy talent.
”

Weekend tickets for Detestival are on-sale from the following online sites now; harleylive.co.uk/ticket-shop, seetickets.com, gigantic.com/harleylive,

Tickets are also available from the following outlets in Sheffield; The Harley, The Wick At Both Ends, Record Collector, HMV Sheffield, The Old Sweet Shop.
