Taylor and Leigh

Taylor and Leigh play Manchester's Dry Bar on Feb 1st

Taylor and Leigh's blend of Nu-Folk-Country Blues is soulful and blisteringly hot. Heather has the voice of an angel with the power of a hurricane. Alex's guitar playing simply takes your breath away. Taylor and Leigh are brother and sister whose song writing is prolific to say the least. They already have three albums available on iTunes - Cut to the Bone - Two Steps ahead of the Hangman - and the latest, Throw them to the Wolves.

Taylor and Leigh’s music has been used on TV by CNN in their programme ‘Go Edinburgh’. CNN used the title track ‘Two Steps Ahead of the Hangman’ to highlight Edinburgh’s past. The track ‘She Moves Me’ from their first album has been used to promote Ken Loach’s film ‘Aye Fond Kiss’.

They play consistently across the UK including The Roadhouse Manchester, Dry Live Manchester, The 02 Academy Glasgow, King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut Glasgow, Sneaky Pete’s Edinburgh and The Playboy Club London. Together they are a potent force and playing across the UK has made them a ‘must see’ live act.

THE RUBYS
UK Rock Band exploding from the Manchester Music Scene

Appearances at the inaugural FOMFEST and Collaboration Festival’s are included in a variety of headline gigs in 2011 including The Manchester Academy, Jabez Clegg, Dry Bar, and Night and Day. This is in addition to support slots at The HMV Ritz with The Rainband, FAC251: The Factory with Supajamma, and The Deaf Institute with Steve Pilgrim.

Radio Presenters and Indie Rock Bloggers have described The Rubys as “reminiscent of early Manic Street Preachers”.

Live and recorded appearances on BBC Introducing, North Manchester FM, AllFM, Manchester Radio Online, RedShift Radio, Salford City Radio and Beatwolf Radio have all helped build a strong live following to compliment a strong online prescence.

The Rubys played Future Perfect 3 in Castlefield on May 12 2012, preceding the debut album launch of "LIMELIGHT PARASITE" at The Ruby Lounge on May 19.

The band then signed to Affinity Records in July 2012 after critical acclaim of their debut Album "Limelight Parasite" that was recorded and Produced by Manchester legend "Martin Coogan" Ex lead singer of "The Mock Turtles and Dean Glover at Vibe Studios "The previous home of Manchester greats "New Order".

The bands new single "SHAKE YOU FREE" released 5th October 2012 on Affinity Records has been received amazingly both here in the UK and even more so in the USA.

We are curently planning the 2013 Tour which will include three weeks in America after the massive support received over their from an amazing amount of radio stations but foremost from "Bernie Overly" at SR ROCKS in Philadelphia and our tireless promoter in the states "Beth Cregger"....if only she would sleep from time to time!!!.......she's a star!!!

Halfway To New York (HTNY), the British rock band who burst onto the UK music scene last autumn with their debut single Out of Time amidst a cascade of critical media acclaim, are back with an even more impressive musical serving in the form of their debut EP, Treading Water, released on 21st May.

Earlier this year, HTNY flew to LA for a series of meetings and showcases to industry moguls including CAA and Warner Bros and are currently in negotiations with a major US agent for a support tour back in the US.

Throw in a recent sell-out gig at The Barfly, London and an upcoming appearance at HARD ROCK CALLING and HTNY suddenly become a highly formidable indie/rock force across both sides of the Atlantic.

Halfway To New York are taking part in the Paralympics closing ceremony tomorrow night
The band recently supported Bruce Springsteen at Hard Rock Calling

What can we say on this line up? Best of Manchester for sure and a line up we'd be happy to take to any of the industry showcases as fine reps of Manchester

Gold Jacks played for us last month and blew crowds away so they're coming back for a headline slot

And they're bringing Liverpool band Dirty Vagrants with them

Prose are Manchester's answer to Plan B ... no not the white boy soul chart pop of Plan B - the brutal uncompromising lyrics you saw on his debut hip hop album

Kat Mullen is one of the finest talents to come through the Designer Magazine gigs recently. Emotional songs, beatiful vocals and an EP "Live Laugh Love" packed full of hits

The Newtons are newbies to our gigs but expecting big things

The Fevers

Designer Magazine presents The Fevers - Manchester Roadhouse - 7th July

The Fevers have been together for two and a half years, and we reside in the great city of Manchester in a shared studio/house. We are aspiring music performers and producers who live and breathe electronic and indie rock music.

Our influences range from Daft Punk to Foals and our music is a “hands in the air”, “toe-tapping” innovation of the two. The music was formed after many nights in clubs, dancing into the early hours, and standing on the front row at countless rock gigs, having the air squeezed from our lungs.

A mixture of “invade your mind” anthemic choruses and lethal neon guitar licks grounded by tight funky bass lines and House beats lift us ceiling high above the shoulders of our contemporaries. The Fevers are perfect for Rocking out and Raving on.

Manchester Music Promoter selected as torchbearer for London 2012

Alex McCann

Manchester Music Promoter selected as torchbearer for London 2012

Manchester music promoter Alex McCann of Designer Magazine has been selected as 1 of the 8000 torchbearers for London 2012... and is on 5 stone weightloss mission to take part

Setting up Designer Magazine in June 1999 as an online music magazine that interviewed everybody from The Rolling Stones Bill Wyman through to the likes of My Chemical Romance, Scissor Sisters and Muse. Live events started in the Summer of 2004 and have featured the likes of Bombay Bicycle Club, Kids In Glass Houses, Dear Eskiimo who went on to be known as the Ting Tings and members of The Kooks, The Wombats and Gallows amongst others. They were also one of the organisers behind the Hungry Pigeon Festival in Manchester which put on Athlete, The Travelling Band and Kid British on in Piccadilly Gardens in Manchester City Centre

Explaining how the torchbearing nomination came about Alex explains

"One of the regulars who have attended our gigs in South Manchester and the city centre nominated with the simple nomination of "Alex puts on gigs and that in turn makes people happy". I never really thought I'd get picked as one of the UK representatives, as I'm simply doing what I love. But it's easy to forget how much music saves - I remember listening to The Smiths and The Manic Street Preachers when I was a teenager and how they impacted on my life. I can only hope that some of the bands that play our gigs go on to have that affect on people. I used to run regular all ages gigs at Bar Amp in Sale, South Manchester and to this date I have people who played the events as kids who are now studying music at University as a result so that's a lasting legacy"

It's not just why Alex was nominated that is astounding, but the mission he's been on since November to get in shape to do the run

"Rock & roll is about excess and I even named a night about it called Fish, Chips and Rock & Roll - so my first thought when I was conditionally nominated in November was how the hell do I run this. I made an overnight decision I had to lose 5 stone via a daily exercise regime and I actually chose my Olympic uniform deliberately too small so I was forced to stick to it. 4 months later i've broke the 4 stone loss barrier and am heading to the 5 stone loss mark which ideally i'll hit by the end of the April. I now get up at 6am most mornings to exercise first thing most mornings, which is something I never thought I'd say"

And what's been the highlight of over 12 years in music?
"A lot of people might think it's the bigger names that have come through or the biggest gig which was Athlete in Piccadilly Gardens at Hungry Pigeon. The ultimate highlight for me in all these years has been indie pop band The Mandigans at Sale Waterside in Feb 2009. They were a band I took from their debut gig to managing them a few gigs later and I haven't seen a crowd like this at a gig since. 330 fanatical fans hanging on every word - one of their fans described it years later as Beatle mania but in South Manchester

I'm very much about looking to the next 12 years though and I believe that Kat Mullen who I've just taken on for management will play a huge part in that. Just pure honest soulful music that's been compared to Tracy Chapman, Laura Marling, Robyn and Adele. She's the best female artist we've had on a gig to date and it's so exciting to be working with a real talent"

Alex McCann is available for interviews to talk about the Olympic Torchbearing

Showcases have become something of a dirty word in 2012 as every man and their dog likes to think they can put on a showcase

However Designer Magazine gigs are different  with 12 years experience running the music website and 7 years running the gig our ears are finely tuned into picking out only the very best that means students earning online associates degrees in
music
can listen to all the best music in one place before getting back
to their studies.

With 4 amazing bands and Kat Mullen, literally the best female vocalist we've had on our gigs ever - this is not to be missed!!!

Designer Magazine presents The Imogen Styles at the Dry Bar Mancester

Designer Magazine presents The Imogen Styles at the Dry Bar Mancester

Designer Magazine have THE IMOGEN STYLES headlining our Dry Bar Gig on Friday March 2nd... last time they played we described it as "an arena show in a basement venue - epic"

Top Of The Pops performance, complete with high energy electro synths, flashy retina-searing visuals, some serious pouting and a surplus of double hand claps.
Basically, imagine the opposite of an acoustic set. That's what THE IMOGEN STYLES are all about.

"I like pop with a punch", says wired frontman and song writer Christopher Dresden Styles. "I'm not much of a fan of subtlety. That isn't to say I can't appreciate the realm of the more understated pop song, but it's not what we want to do. We want to make pop music that feels like you've been slapped after you've heard it. We want to write pop songs like 'Blue Monday', or 'It's A Sin', or 'In For The Kill'. We want people so say "wow" after hearing one of our tracks. If we were being pigeonholed, I suppose you could call us 'Exclamation Pop'. If you must."
Fronting the band alongside CDS is Syma - like the very best pop stars, she needs only one name. Imagine the impossibly charismatic lovechild of Madonna and Debbie Harry, with a commanding off-kilter vocal similar to Deborah Evans-Strickland meets a baritone Sarah Nixey. That's Syma.

The following review of their recent headline show at Manchester’s famous Dry Bar in December 2011 sums the whole package up perfectly:
"Imagine if the Pet Shop Boys were fronted by Jarvis Cocker, with Chris Lowe reincarnated as a sassy bitch".

You can't argue with that.

The same gig was also described by the experienced venue promoter as "amazing" and "like an arena show", and that they'd seen nothing like it "in seven years of putting on live music".
If reading the above has piqued your interest and you'd like to experience THE IMOGEN STYLES live, then the band are again headlining Manchester's Dry Bar on Friday 2nd March 2012, with a stage time of approximately 10pm. Email your details through to info@theimogenstyles.com if you'd like to be placed on the guestlist.
