The ROadhouse, Newton Street, Manchester
Saturday 21st July - Doors 6pm

What can we say on this line up? Best of Manchester for sure and a line up we'd be happy to take to any of the industry showcases as fine reps of Manchester

Gold Jacks played for us last month and blew crowds away so they're coming back for a headline slot

And they're bringing Liverpool band Dirty Vagrants with them

Prose are Manchester's answer to Plan B ... no not the white boy soul chart pop of Plan B - the brutal uncompromising lyrics you saw on his debut hip hop album

Kat Mullen is one of the finest talents to come through the Designer Magazine gigs recently. Emotional songs, beatiful vocals and an EP "Live Laugh Love" packed full of hits

The Newtons are newbies to our gigs but expecting big things

Designer Magazine presents The Fevers - Manchester Roadhouse - 7th July

The Fevers

Designer Magazine presents The Fevers - Manchester Roadhouse - 7th July

The Fevers have been together for two and a half years, and we reside in the great city of Manchester in a shared studio/house. We are aspiring music performers and producers who live and breathe electronic and indie rock music.

Our influences range from Daft Punk to Foals and our music is a “hands in the air”, “toe-tapping” innovation of the two. The music was formed after many nights in clubs, dancing into the early hours, and standing on the front row at countless rock gigs, having the air squeezed from our lungs.

A mixture of “invade your mind” anthemic choruses and lethal neon guitar licks grounded by tight funky bass lines and House beats lift us ceiling high above the shoulders of our contemporaries. The Fevers are perfect for Rocking out and Raving on.

Rams' Pocket Radio on tour in July

Rams’ Pocket Radio
Trajectories Box Set released on June 18
Following Snow Patrol support across Europe, further dates announced
Recording Debut album with David Kosten
“Sensational...Watch this one” Sunday Times Culture
“An outstanding talent...Rams’ engage fans curiosity with beautiful, creative and powerful tracks” Clash
“About to scare the ******* out of every other piano-based band on the planet – Tom Robinson
“An artist of verve and versatility: keep this frequency clear” AU Magazine
Rams’ Pocket Radio has announced details the box set of their 3 Eps, “Trajectories” on June 18.. This follows the success of ‘Dieter Rams Has Got The Pocket Radios’, which was playlisted by BBC Radio 1 Introducing in January, and saw spins from the likes of Huw Stephens, Fearne Cotton, Nick Grimshaw and Annie Mac, as well as a play on BBC2’s The Review Show. Rams’  toured with Snow Patrol for across Europe during March during which Snow Patrol frontman Gary Lightbody nightly told the audience that Rams’ “were the best support band they’d ever had.”
Rams’ head out on 2 tours (dates below) but in between times Rams’ is recording his debut album with David Kosten (Everything Everything, Bat for Lashes, Guillemots).
Rams’ Pocket Radio has earned comparisons with the likes of Frightened Rabbit, and played with everyone from Darwin Deez to Marina and the Diamonds and You Me at Six over the course of 2011. His songs are meticulously crafted and effortlessly epic, mixing elements of pounding, piano-based pop with heavier rock sounds (see Rams’ former life in post-hardcore bands). And it’s all there to be heard in ‘1+2’: driven by a nagging guitar riff and a simple but memorable chorus, ‘1+2’ was written, says Rams, “about making yourself vulnerable to help someone, and the things that can happen as a result.” ‘1+2’ is, moreover, Rams’ most immediate and accessible piece of songwriting to date, settling nicely against some of the EP’s more experimental moments (see the brooding ‘Love Is A  Bitter Thing’, and the glitchy electronics of ‘Swallow’).
The ‘Rams’ in question is Peter McCauley - a drummer, pianist and diverse songwriter from Lisburn. His musical career got off to a less-than-usual start, namely in the National Youth Orchestra of Northern Ireland. McCauley was one of the leading percussionists in the ensemble, boldly tackling the likes of Wagner’s Ring Cycle and Gustav Mahler (not that he knew what he was doing for much of it). Still, it is an influence that you can feel in the big, bold soundscapes Rams has conjured up across these early releases. McCauley then moved to Worthing in pursuit of an Architecture degree, where the desire to design and construct no doubt infused the songs he began to write under the Rams’ Pocket Radio alias.
Who, though, is ‘Rams’, and what is the significance of his pocket radio? Peter’s stage-name is taken from the 1950’s product designer Dieter Rams: viewed by many as the key inspiration behind the iPod (which bears a startling resemblance to the Pocket Radio), and various modern accessories. “His products were relevant to the time but still looked to the future,” explains McCauley. “I like the idea that something we create could have relevance and longevity, accessibility and influence. The way we use and create music changes, but the core principals remain the same.” With his manifesto now nailed, Rams will continue working on his debut album, which will be released later this year.

Final four local artists in last clinch to become Lakeside’s Boardwalk Busker 2011

Lakeside has been on the hunt for the best of local talent, attracting entries from many top-class performers for their artist search competition. There’s a fantastic prize on offer for the winner: a full day in a top recording studio, styling session, £500 Lakeside gift card and their very own Gold Disk Trophy.

Competition has been stiff:  the judges whittled down the many hopefuls to a shortlist of twelve acts and now a lucky final four have been chosen with a public vote

  • Lloyd Coombes , a song-writing extraordinaire, penning his first lyric at the tender age of 10!

  • David Reed, a professional busker who is fresh from the outback of Australia and looking for a new challenge

  • Adam Nichols, an acoustic YouTube sensation and a fan of ‘raw’ vocals
  •  Jakob Oelofse, a soloist and an Essex boy at heart (despite being born in Durban, South Africa)
Lakeside’s Boardwalk is a great riverside venue. The main performance will be taking place near the main entrance between the restaurants Giraffe and Café Rouge, so it will be handy for grabbing a drink and a bite to eat before the buskers do their shows.
All four finalists will be performing live on The Boardwalk on either Saturday 9th or Sunday 10th July and need your support! You can listen to their tracks here or come down to Lakeside to see them battle it out to become Lakeside’s Boardwalk Busker 2011 and vote for them on the day!

If you are looking for further info then visit the Lakeside website.

The Suzukis at the RoadHouse Manchester

The Storms of rock and roll, this is what The Suzukis is all about. The band members are creating the outrageous performances and writing lyrics about the life in today's society. The front man was born to play music, and expressing himself in a way that creeps out the audience that is seemed to have already seen everything.

The Suzukis can be compared to the Suzuki motorbikes that are graceful, high-tech skilled, as well as, have elements of explicit raw power. Their music is full of angst and anger that is blowing away the crowds. It has been awhile since the bands were raising the excitement of rock and roll, and the Suzukis with their power might be just the band to do so.

Their "primal aggression" and "visceral power", and claims that the Suzukis are returning to rock's source to invoke the invigorating energy of the Stooges, Sex Pistols, Nirvana and all those other bands whose purpose it was to get rock back on track: The Guardian

The band is releasing their debut album on the 11th of July, 2011.
