Broken Bubble Showcase in Manchester

Broken Bubble’s output as a netlabel has been prolific over the past six months. Since label founder Guy Thompson, aka Cogidubnus, self-released his own The Pan-Galactic Memory Bank EP via the increasingly popular Bandcamp set-up, six more have so far followed, including digital recordings from Duskky, Macka and Hurtdeer and the 14-track compilation, We Can Build You.

There are more in the pipeline in collaboration with the London-based Mothers Against Noise collective, a group of producers who’ve each interpreted the post-dubstep landscape in their own way. Duskky’s latest, Rascality, is available from Monday 11th July via Broken Bubble.

Dubfunk is the emergent genre definition, which is almost onomatopoeic in its conception with low rumbles met by assorted beats and a smattering of off-kilter samples. Funky grooves nestle alongside elements of the wide-ranging dubstep template in an experimental approach to dance music production.

Next Thursday 14th July sees a Broken Bubble showcase with Duskky, Hurtdeer and Cogidubnus sharing the limelight for an evening showcase between 8pm and 12.30am. The event is co-promoted by Now Then Manchester, an independent arts, music and politics blog that recently began a regular monthly slot at Chorlton-cum-Hardy’s Dulcimer bar.
