Thursday 28th July 2011; Academy Music Group (AMG) today announced plans to launch an annual concert series in September 2011 with the ‘No Mean City’ Festival, a celebration of Americana music in Glasgow.
To acknowledge the City’s close ties and associations with American roots music and heritage, ‘No Mean City’ will present over 50 artists, performing across six of Glasgow’s best loved live music venues; O2 ABC Glasgow, Òran Mór, The Captain’s Rest, the award-winning King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut, Stereo and SWG3 between Monday 5th September - Sunday 18th September.
‘No Mean City’ brings together Scotland’s major concert promoters; Regular Music, DF Concerts, PCL and AMG’s own promoting division, Academy Events.
“Glasgow has a long history with American music; nowhere is this influence more recognisable” says Mark Mackie, Director, Regular Music. “International touring artists have often recognised the Glasgow audience as one of the best in the world.”
Added Dave Corbet, Senior Booker at DF Concerts, “Americana Music is the perfect soundtrack for those post summer blues and its connection with Glasgow makes the No Mean City Festival a must for September”.
With a combination of all-seated and standing events, acoustic sessions and workshops, 'No Mean City' will take music fans on a journey through the Americana diaspora. Acclaimed singer songwriter Ron Sexsmith, Nashville’s country song-bird Caitlin Rose, folk-laden, alt. country from Doug Paisley, RnB and gospel infected Blues with Skip “Little Axe” McDonald, the intimate stripped-down sound of Brooklyn’s brother and sister duo This Frontier Needs Heroes and Glasgow’s own Country rocker Thrum, complement this diverse festival line up.
