Himal releases debut single Makin’ Moves
West London based singer / songwriter Himal becomes one of the year's final breakthrough acts with the release of his soulful debut single Makin' Moves.
Born in Hammersmith, raised in Southall and growing up between London and Africa, Himal Barnes is no ordinary British vocalist. Pronouncing the likes of Al Green, Stevie Wonder, Curtis Mayfield, Nas and the Beatles as his primary influences, Himal combines his love of soul, jazz and hip hop music to create an effortlessly smooth sound which has seen him perform at some of London's finest venues (including the world famous Jazz cafe and Bloomsbury Ballroom), support the likes of Jesse Boykins III, Terri Walker and Stacy Epps on tour and work with Leona Lewis, T.Williams and Wipe the Needle (Restless Soul), whilst being dubbed by many tastemakers as the UK's answer to American singer / musician / actor John Legend.
Following years of perfecting his sound away from the industry spotlight, Himal is now primed to release his debut solo record 'Makin Moves'. As a completely independent release, the single demonstrates Himal’s songwriting and vocal talents, as well as his ability to write a catchy yet credible, soul-hip-hop fusion without sacrificing lyrical content or musical quality. The record features the talents of a variety of musicians, including production from Kensaye, keys from Andrew Yeates, bass from Jack Stevens, scratches from Mr Dex and additional vocals from Cherri Prince. Accompanied by a beautifully honest and down to earth visual, 'Makin Moves' is a masterfully original feel good record, composed just in time to lift you up on those dark, cold nights of winter.
'Makin Moves' is taken from Himal's debut EP 'Soul Light/Soul Love', which is scheduled for release (along with two more singles) next year. With production from London based French Super producer Kensaye, North West London based singer / songwriter / producer Zansika and a host of other beat smiths, as well as features from Atlanta’s own soul singer / MC Stacy Epps, British rapper Byron and New York's Spoken Word Poet / MC Oveous Maximus, the EP is definitely a release to be anticipated.
