Due to the success of 2013’s Heart Full of Songs tour, 10cc’s Graham Gouldman is set to hit the road again this spring with 20 intimate concerts across the country, which includes Liverpool’s Epstein Theatre on Thu 29th May. The band features fellow 10cc band member Mike Stevens and Iain Hornal.
Anyone attending a 10cc concert in recent years will likely have witnessed the sublime acoustic opening set, featuring Gouldman and the guys performing some of the hits he penned for other artists. The success of these opening sets encouraged Gouldman to take the idea one step further and Heart Full of Songs became a stand-alone acoustic entity.
After writing hits such as Pamela, Pamela for Wayne Fontana, For Your Love and Heart Full of Soul for The Yardbirds, Bus Stop and Look Through Any Window for The Hollies, No Milk Today for Herman's Hermits, and Tallyman for Jeff Beck, he formed 10cc in 1972 with Eric Stewart, Kevin Godley and Lol Crème. As a band they enjoyed eleven Top 10 hits, including three No 1s – Rubber Bullets, I’m Not In Love and Dreadlock Holiday – along with tracks such as Donna, reaching No 2, Good Morning Judge (No 5) and The Things We Do For Love’ (6).
It’s the enduring popularity of these tracks and Gouldman’s love of playing songs in their simplest form, acoustically, that led him to form Heart Full of Songs, featuring many of the aforementioned tracks, along with Bridge To Your Heart (from Graham’s time in Wax with the late Andrew Gold), other Gouldman compositions and material from his acclaimed solo album Love And Work.
As if to further reinforce Graham Gouldman’s status as one of the world’s leading songwriters, he is to be inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame – an arm of America’s National Academy of Music – at a special ceremony in New York in June. Previous inductees include Noel Coward, Irving Berlin, Burt Bacharach, Neil Sedaka, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Elton John, Leonard Cohen and Sting.
In recent years, Gouldman has co-written with the likes of Gary Barlow, Tim Rice, Paul Carrack, Chris Difford and Suggs, as well as spending time in Nashville writing with, among others, Country Songwriter of the Year Gary Burr. Gouldman also co-wrote with McFly for their No 1 album Wonderland.
Meanwhile, he continues to take the 10cc band around the world for concerts and festivals. Last December they toured arenas with Status Quo and have headline concert tours set for October and then February-March, culminating with a return to the Royal Albert Hall.
