2ManyDJs, Laurent Garnier and Lord of the Isles announced for Riverside Festival

2ManyDJs, Laurent Garnier and Lord of the Isles announced for Riverside Festival

2ManyDJs, Laurent Garnier and Lord of the Isles announced for Riverside Festival

The Electric Frog and Pressure Riverside Festival have today announced the next wave of hot acts to join the festival line-up this May Bank Holiday weekend. The world-renowned 2ManyDJs will headline the first day of the festival, while techno innovator Laurent Garnier will take to the decks on Sunday joined by Lord of the Isles giving fans of electronic music the event of the summer.

Offering fans the very best in legendary and cutting-edge talent, The Electric Frog and Pressure Riverside Festival have already confirmed a dynamic line-up including Jamie Jones, Andrew Weatherall, Derrick Carter, Derrick May, Felix Da Housecat, Moritz Von Oswald, DJ Sneak, Slam, Sunday Circus, Tiga, Visionquest, Vitalic (live).

Since the creation of the band Soulwax in 1995, David and Stephen Dewaele’s 2ManyDJs have consistently pushed boundaries into new and innovative territory. In 2011 they tore up the rulebook with the creation of Radio Soulwax, a touring live event, an app and website. The ultimate synthesis of sound and vision, it produced 24 one hour mixes with accompanying visuals based on the artwork of the original records used within the mix. The app has had over 600k downloads and 300k sales to date.

Throughout their career 2ManyDJs have led the way into unchartered territory and remained relevant and exciting to every generation that discovers them. Their new collaboration with LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy named the Despacio project sees them create parties in interesting locations on a state of the art hi-fi sound system.

Tireless in his enthusiasm, Laurent Garnier is an artist on the move. Bursting with new ideas and projects, Laurent Garnier juggles DJ-ing, radio shows and producing. His first big hits (Acid Eiffel and Wake Up), both soundtracks to the explosion of dance music in France, have paved the way for a series of albums that are both elaborate and multi-faceted. In the space of five celebrated albums, Laurent Garnier has embarked upon a remarkable journey going back to the creation of his label in 1994 with Eric Morand which brought to the fore producers such as as Mr Oizo, St Germain, Jori Hulkkonen, AlexKid and Scan X.

Playing an exclusive live set at the festival is Lord of the Isles. Creating a monumental buzz of late, from modest beginnings, releasing on relatively unknown labels like Adult Contemporary, Catune and Ene - the producer’s name has gone from a whisper to a bang, catching the attention of the Phonica, Unthank and Shevchenko imprints more recently. His hypnotic brand of disco and boogie-tinged house has found favour among the listening public as well, furthering his reputation and placing his releases in high demand.

Now increased to a two day event, the outdoor music festival takes place on the grounds of the iconic Riverside Museum and The Tall Ship, on the banks of the River Clyde over the May Bank Holiday weekend (3rd and 4th May) from 4pm – 11pm. The event will feature two covered stages, street food, a variety of bars and vintage stalls bringing together a real carnival atmosphere.

Electric Frog and Pressure Festival Promoter Dave Clarke said: “We’re hugely excited to announce 2ManyDJs, Laurent Garnier and Lord of the Isles, which are great additions to the line-up at the Electric Frog and Pressure Riverside Festival. The festival is bringing some of the best names in the world of electronic music to Glasgow and it’s shaping up to be our best Electric Frog and Pressure collaboration yet!"

With the first batch of Super Early Bird Tickets selling out in record time, festival organisers have now released the next wave of tickets for Electric Frog and Pressure Riverside Festival. Priced at £30 for day tickets and £55 for weekend tickets, fans can purchase via Tickets Scotland, and Resident Advisor. www.tickets-scotland.com

The party is a day and night affair with the Riverside festival after parties taking place at The Admiral and SWG3 in the city. Tickets are on-sale now and can be purchased separately from festival tickets via Tickets Scotland.

Riverside Festival announces line up for 2014

Riverside Festival announces line up for 2014

Riverside Festival announces line up for 2014

Two of the leading event organisers in Glasgow - The Electric Frog and Pressure - have joined forces for a second year to bring fans of electronic music the event of the summer - The Electric Frog and Pressure Riverside Festival. Today festival organisers have announced the first batch of illustrious acts on the stellar line-up including Sunday headliner Jamie Jones plus Andrew Weatherall, Aphrohead aka Felix Da Housecat, Derrick Carter, Derrick May, Jamie Jones, Moritz Von Oswald, DJ Sneak, Slam, Sunday Circus, Tiga, Visionquest, Vitalic (live)will appear over the weekend.

An eclectic selection of artists from around the globe already confirmed are Jamie Jones who,  via his label, Hot Creations, has been credited with creating an iconic sound that has paved the way for a warmer, more melodic, deeper side of house and techno to emerge. A legendary DJ across the world, Jamie recently introduced his Paradise club concept to Ibiza which took the island by storm.

DJ and producer Andrew Weatherall is a long-time collaborator with Primal Scream, a consistent innovator and is regarded as one of UK’s finest DJ’s and producers.  Joining them is seminal electronic producer Moritz Von Oswald – the man behind projects as diverse as Basic Channel, Maurizio, Rhythm and Sound, Marathon and the Moritz Van Oswald trio (including Fela Kuti’s drummer, Tony Allen), and collaborator with such luminaries as Carl Craig and Juan Atkins- Moritz’ influence stretches deep and far.

Montreal based DJ/producer Tiga is the founder of Turbo Recordings and has produced records with artists as diverse as Nelly, Scissor Sisters and Boys Noize.

Electronic French composer Vitalic is famous for his laser-guided disco that has headlined festivals across the world. His third album “Rave Age” has received critical acclaim and he’s sure to deliver a dynamic live performance on the opening day of the festival.

Chicago’s finest Derrick Carter & DJ Sneak will be in attendance when they take to the stage. Derrick Carter is a phenomenal talent whose style takes in everything from old school disco, soul and jazz, but most famously, that jackin’ Chicago sound. DJ Sneak’s signature funky filtered disco-influenced house redefined the genre for well over 20 years, inspiring the sound of Daft Punk amongst others.

Staying with Chicago, Felix Da Housecat will be flying in with a special and extremely rare performance under his Aphrohead guise. Although most recently famous for collaborations with the likes of P Diddy, Madonna and Britney Spears, this is a return to Felix’ house roots that saw him blaze a creative trail with DJ Sneak, Armando and DJ Pierre.

We welcome one of the Belleville Three in the form of Derrick May– the trio of producers who were responsible for creating Detroit Techno. Derrick May’s timeless tracks like “Strings of Life” and “Nude Photo” were part of the blueprint for everything that followed in electronic dance music. Derrick remains a pivotal and influential figure in the world of electronic music, co-founding the Detroit Movement Festival.

Visionquest are Ryan Crosson, Shaun Reeves and Lee Curtiss, the most innovative and exciting new breed of DJ/producers to come out of the city of Detroit in a generation. Their remix of Kiki’s ‘Good Voodoo’ on BPitch Control was one of the summer’s biggest underground hits and together they have released tracks on leading labels like Crosstown Rebels, Spectral Sound, Get Physical, Circus Company, Supplement Facts, Wolf+Lamb, Wagon Repair and Minus. They are a new generation of young, talented producers from Detroit who draw influence from all who have come before them, following in their footsteps, while defining a unique sound of their own. Having their roots in Motown whilst  drawing ambitious spiritual vibes from forerunners like Theo Parrish and Moodyman, this will be a performance not to be missed.

Co-Promoters of the event Slam and DIY party hosts, Sunday Circus give the local flavour to a star-studded bill over the course of the weekend.

Electric Frog and Pressure Festival Promoter Dave Clarke said: “We’re hugely excited to announce the first names on the line-up for Electric Frog and Pressure Riverside Festival. We are also glad to be releasing the map of the Riverside site which shows the improvements we are planning in the infrastructure and the layout. The first names on the line-up include some of the best in the world and it’s already shaping up to be our best Electric Frog and Pressure collaboration yet!

Now in the second year, the organisers have worked hard behind the scenes to improve all aspects of the site that is hosted in the iconic surroundings of the Riverside Museum and Tall Ship. For the first time ever, there will also be the opportunity to purchase drinks tokens in advance from the festival’s web site, utilising state-of-the-art bar-code technology.

Fantastic street food will be available, offering music fans dishes from some of the most talented food providers and pop-up restaurants in Glasgow.

Electric Frog & Pressure Riverside Festival tickets go on sale Friday 14th February 2014 at 09:00 AM. Tickets can be purchased via from Tickets Scotland, and Resident Advisor. www.tickets-scotland.com

The party is a day and night affair with the Riverside festival after parties taking place at various venues in the city, with full details to be announced soon. Visit www.riversidefestivalglasgow.com for more information.

Fred Perry Sub-Sonic Live presents a very special evening curated by David Rodigan MBE

Fred Perry Sub-Sonic Live presents a very special evening curated by David Rodigan MBE

Fred Perry’s Sub-Sonic Live returns with a specially curated event by legendary ambassador for British reggae, David Rodigan MBE. Fred Perry has enjoyed a unique relationship with music and street style since the 1950’s and the Sub-Sonic Live nights celebrate the musical and cultural pioneers who have left a lasting influence over contemporary culture.  Sub-sonic Live brings together the most influential heritage artists and tomorrow’s trailblazers and previous guests have included Andrew Weatherall, Afrika Bambaataa, Terry Hall, Greg Wilson, The Horrors, Factory Floor, Tom Vek and King Krule.

David Rodigan MBE has been famous throughout Britain’s reggae dance-halls for over 30 years. His extensive knowledge of Jamaica’s every artist, every song and every rhythm track, makes him the perfect choice to curate this very special Sub-Sonic Live, focusing on reggae and British reggae - two of the most significant subcultures of the last forty years.

Joining David is Lee "Scratch" Perry. A recording pioneer of the reggae world, Lee "Scratch" Perry is one of the most important artist-producers to have ever stepped into a recording studio. Building an experimental recording studio in his back yard in Jamaica, "Scratch" was producer on early recordings for such notable musicians as Bob Marley and the Wailers, Junior Byles, The Heptones, and Max Romeo. Now in his seventies, Perry continues to contribute to the forefront of new music, with his recent work including collaboration with electronic explorers, The Orb.

Completing the line-up in the main room is live dub act Resonators, heralded by David Rodigan as "British Reggae at its best" and drawing praise from Mark Lamarr, Lauren Laverne and Craig Charles among others.

Appearing on the night will be Venum DJ’s aka Kris Snakes and Monkey Harris, two lifelong friends with a penchant for all things vinyl and in search of the perfect beat.  Their sets draw from funk, soul, hip-hop and reggae through to the early drum and bass scene and beyond.  Also taking to the decks will be Jet Letts, son of the legendary punk filmmaker Don Letts who is rapidly making a name for himself as a DJ and producer who marries house and post-dubstep to mesmerising effect.  Jet will be joined by some very special friends on the evening.

This show is part of Fred Perry’s Sub-Sonic Live series. Sub-Sonic Live has been an integral part of Fred Perry’s Subculture website reporting on the best of emerging international talent. Sub-Sonic Live is the live manifestation of the concept.

RockNess 2012 New Acts Announced

RockNess 2012

RockNess 2012 New Acts Announced

ELECTRO HEAVEN AS ROCKNESS ANNOUNCES
SUB CLUB SOUND SYSTEM 25 YEARS
SOMA RECORDS
MYLO EPP PARTY
PLUS
THE ROCKNESS ARCADIA UFO

In an announcement of cosmic proportions, RockNess today confirms a constellation of electronic acts guaranteed to unleash an unearthly level of dancefloor devastation this June. What’s more, the stratospheric celebrations are set to land on the Scottish Highlands for three days in a brand new stage concept - THE ARCADIA UFO - the likes of which Scotland has never seen!

Brought to RockNess by Arcadia, originators of the now legendary Afterburner, THE ARCADIA UFO is a 360 degree rave machine from outer space, based on a flying saucer, and guaranteed to get the party people well and truly moving! Loaded with an armoury of brand new high powered effects and a thunderous sound system, this incredible new sculpted arena, which replaces the Afterburner, will crash land into the festival radiating fire, light, lasers and intergalactic vibrations. Head there as dusk falls for a truly space age experience for 2012! And the soundtrack to THE ARCADIA UFO is suitably galaxy-spanning too.
Having thrown the mother of all birthday parties at RockNess last year to celebrate an output of outstanding electronica spanning 20 years, our friends at SOMA RECORDS are back with an almighty bang for 2012, assuming control of THE ARCADIA UFO on Friday and Saturday and with a line up set to eclipse last year’s now legendary birthday euphoria.
First up is an artist who enjoys one of the most loyal & die-hard fanbases of all, JAMES HOLDEN. Founder of the Zeitgeist Border Community label, and hugely in demand as a remixer extraordinaire, HOLDEN’s record releases – including his recent rave reviewed DJ Kicks compilation on the K7! Label - plus packed out globetrotting DJ sets are as forward thinking as house and techno gets. It is a great honour and pleasure to have him on the bill.
Known as the '3 Deck Master' and 'The Machine', BEN SIMS is an unstoppable force on the global electronic circuit. His Theory Recordings imprint, much of which enjoys cult status, is highly regarded by the scene’s mightiest players, and the skill and dexterity of his mixing knows no bounds. With a signature of tough funk and hard grooves, it is with much excitement that RockNess and SOMA RECORDS welcomes BEN SIMS to play his first ever set in the Scottish Highlands.
ANDREW WEATHERALL is one of the world’s most respected and dedicated DJs, an exponent of consistently cutting edge, genre defying music. Throughout the decades he has been a driving force at the heart of the most seminal movements. Where WEATHERALL leads others follow. His set last year as part of the SOMA RECORDS birthday party was of such blistering repute that, by popular demand, he’s back for more. And what a treat we have lined up as ANDREW WEATHERALL and SEAN JOHNSTON present ‘A LOVE FROM OUTER SPACE’ – a five hour set incorporating cosmic disco and house in its many different guises but never exceeding 122 BPM. Having started life in an intimate East London basement (The Drop) to showcase "an oasis of slowness in a world of increasing velocity", ‘A LOVE FROM OUTER SPACE’ has built its reputation as London’s best mid-week club night. Now in a Scottish festival exclusive, SOMA RECORDS bring the maestros to Dores for what will be the perfect start to the party.
Picking up the pace after the sun sets with their deep and warming house sound will be Glasgow legends SILICONE SOUL aka Craig Morrison & Graeme Reedie. Expect an abundance of new tracks dropping at RockNess as the duo will have just released their Soma20 Remixes album complete with reworks from the biggest names in house music, plus a much anticipated new EP this summer.
This sublimely curated line up join the other recently announced SOMA RECORDS acts; ‘Baron of Techno’ DAVE CLARKE, Dirty Bird and Mothership boss CLAUDE VONSTROKE and the fast rising forward thinking ANIMAL FARM.
Speaking about this year’s proposition on the brand new UFO, Soma Records boss DAVE CLARKE said "it's almost time for more unforgettable experiences around the Soma stage at RockNess. Last year was truly special and we aim to make this year's shenanigans even more so. Bring your stomping boots. Make no mistake, this is going to Rock."
Twenty five years ago the SUB CLUB opened in Glasgow. Since then, it has carved a reputation as one of the greatest clubs on the planet, always at the forefront and never compromising on its ethos of exceptional music. Now, following its inaugural landing on Dores last year, the SUB CLUB SOUND SYSTEM is back as we celebrate the club’s 25 YEARS with a line up oozing quality and class and more incredible names still to be revealed.
Formerly known as Ramadanman and head honcho of the esteemed Hessle Audio label, PEARSON SOUND pushes the boundaries from garage to deep house vibes with a masterful execution and clarity that has seen him hailed one of the most influential producers around. A regular at Fabric where his blinding sets never fail to demolish the dancefloor, PEARSON SOUND at RockNess is not to be missed.
Credited as one of the key figures to have pushed the NYC house music scene of the 00’s into a new era with a consistently unmatched vitality and coherence, LEVON VINCENT’s star continues to rise. Although anything but a newcomer. VINCENT’s recent fame can be seen only as welcome payoff. Through his outstanding imprints, Novel Sound and Deconstruct Music (with Anthony Parasole) and alongside Jus-Ed’s Underground Quality stable, VINCENT’s raw sound epitomizes the very essence of house music. Early arrival strongly recommended. LEVON VINCENT will smash the SUB CLUB SOUND SYSTEM.
Hailing from Paris, and one of France’s most wanted radio hosts and selectors, IVAN SMAGGHE has the ability to play music like a raw conduit between his famously obscure records and the dancefloor’s strobe-soaked bodies. Belonging to a top table often described as “The DJ’s DJs, SMAGGHE’s genre defying/defining production work originally in Blackstrobe and now in ‘It’s a Fine Line’, sees him injecting something of himself seamlessly into every mix. Having held residencies at both Fabric and The Rex Club in Paris, IVAN SMAGGHE commands respect of the highest order and RockNess is extremely pleased to be welcoming him this year.
Bristol boy EATS EVERYTHING (aka Dan Pearce) loves solid booty shaking beats and basslines, house "with a little more grunt". Continuing to set the pace for heavy releases in 2012 through San Francisco’s tech funk Dirtybird label, and winning support from the likes of Seth Troxler, Claude VonStroke, Pete Tong along the way, EATS EVERYTHING will descend all guns blazing on the SUB CLUB SOUND SYSTEM this summer.
Regarded as one of the most forward thinking club nights in the world, the Sub Club’s weekly SUBCULTURE residency is an institution that reigns supreme. HARRI and DOMENIC are revered by the electronic music fraternity the world over and week in week out bodies are well and truly jacked at this over two-decade-strong residency. Expect a storming party at RockNess as we celebrate 25 years of exemplary house music from the much respected duo, and toast the prospect of many more future treats.
Serving up lashings of deep, soulful house against a tech laced, percussion driven set, the brilliant SENSU comprises of Barry Price, Esa Williams and Chris ‘Junior’ Ingram. The trio nearly blew the roof off last year’s inaugural SUB CLUB SOUND SYSTEM as they unleashed a sensational live performance to a packed out audience. This year promises to be every bit as special, remaining true to the SENSU motto of good music, good people and good times.
THUNDER DISCO CLUB provide a stylistic disco-infused aphrodisiac to Glasgow’s brimming scene that clubbers will have been hard pressed to have missed. As one of the most recognisable brands in the city, and now a monthly fixture at the SUB CLUB, the collective brings a succession of on-point bookings, inspired themes and an ever-lasting lust for all things devious to its audience. Expect a set brimming with sunshine grooves come June.
Armed with Serato, two quick hands and the most diverse crate of dance floor fillers you’re likely to hear, BOOM MONK BEN is a frenzied fanatic of all things bass. From hip hop, dancehall, funk and breakbeats to house, dubstep and drum and bass if it makes the BOOM BEN move you’ll be hearing it this summer at RockNess. His monthly HYP? night at the Sub Club welcomes the foremost exponents of all things electronic and his Mixed Bizness music promotion agency is much respected.
Sub Club director MIKE GRIEVE commented “Rockness 2012 provides the perfect platform for the Sub Club to take the underground overground. With 25 years under our belt and a line-up of exceptional quality ready to represent in our anniversary year, we are raring to go - can't wait!!"
Finally, for now at least, taking to the ARCADIA UFO decks on Sunday as part of MYLO’s very special one off EPP PARTY will be mysterious duo TIGER and WOODS. The pair have been causing a commotion of late through the strength of a series of hand-stamped white labels and outrageously groovy mixes largely pulled from the disco boogie universe, so it with much excitement we await their sonic treats.
Joining the EPP PARTY is French DJ and producer YUKSEK. Ladled with sumptuous, buzzy electronic vibes, heard in all their glory on excellent recent album ‘Living on the Edge of Time’, a sublime soundtrack of top notch tunes await the RockNess crowd.
And bringing Sunday night’s UFO experience to an almighty superlative-defying climax will be MYLO. Expect a full scale hip wiggling, nu disco inferno mixed up with trademark genius throwbacks as we welcome Scotland’s beat loving electro wizard back to RockNess for his first appearance since the very first RockNess seven years ago.
Speaking about today’s announcement, Festival Director JIM KING said, “It’s birthday greetings all round at RockNess this year and there are some must see DJs coming to celebrate with Soma and the Sub Club. The Arcadia UFO Stage is brand new and takes off from where the Afterburner left last year. The Arcadia have promised it’s even better than the Afterburner and we know it’s one of the best stages at the festival and the perfect place for Weatherall to return with ‘A Love from Outer Space’. Tiger & Woods and Ivan Smagghe are super hot and I can’t wait to see them as well. Sub Club is already looking really great and good news is there is still more for them to announce.”
