Captain Beefheart's wildly influential and seminal band The Magic Band come to Eric’s, Liverpool on Wednesday 13 March 2013.

The group's members span all the different periods of The Magic Band's history. Captain Beefheart's backing band was variously titled as 'His Magic Band' and 'The Magic Band' which, during its existence and has had an interchanging and evolving line-up. They are often credited as a seminal influence by a whole host of Liverpool bands from The Zutons, The La's, The Coral to Julian Cope.

If you have not heard this band, you are in for a treat, as the music is a mixture of avante-garde jazz and delta blues that has to be heard to be appreciated. The intertwining complexity of the rhythms and melodies can seem a bit unnerving at first listen, but if you are like many, you will quickly become a fan of this quirky deviation from the norm.

Sharing the vision of celebrating the music of the late Don Van Vliet aka Captain Beefheart who died in 2010, original members Denny “Feelers Rebo” Walley, Mark “Rockette Morton” Boston, and John “Drumbo” French share the stage with guitarist Eric Klerks and drummer Craig Bunch to re-visit the classic Beefheart tunes with renewed fervor.

This band is “the best batch yet” says Guitarist Denny Walley. The chemistry has been duly noted with rave reviews from their 2011 Autumn visit to the UK. The played Liverpool as part of The Butterfly’s Ball and the Grasshoppers Feast, the annual 60's inspired club night, organised by Liverpool band and Beeheart fans The Wicked Whispers in December 2011 and are looking forward to being back in the city.

Also one of last year's UK band highlights was an explosive All Tomorrow's Parties festival performance. This year will see The Magic Band make a triumphant return to the European mainland taking in Germany, Norway, Denmark, Switzerland and Belgium. Releasing such recordings as “Back to the Front” ( ATP Records), “21st Century Mirror Men” ( Proper Records), and “Live at Oxford” (Sundazed Records), the group has proven to stay true to the original music, re-visiting the original recordings with both technical and soulful accuracy much to the joy of Beefheart Fans everywhere.

Support comes from Liverpool's own music legend Edgar Jones also known as Edgar Summertyme. The former Stairs singer/Paul Weller bassist/Jones's frontman started his musical path as the singer-songwriter/front man of Liverpool bandThe Stairs, celebrated by the likes of Elvis Costello and signing a record deal with Go! Discs. Their debut single 'Weed Bus' and the following album 'Mexican R 'n' B', went on to become classics of their time. Edgar Jones has since achieved somewhat legendary status as a Liverpool based artist who has played with the great and the good: he has worked with Paul Weller, Johnny Marr (who supplied the studio his solo album was recorded on), St Etienne and the lost La, Lee Mavers (‘a form of National Service ‘ to quote Edgar).

Liverpool band Space reformed last December to play a sell out Christmas show at the 02 Academy. They head back to the venue on Friday 26 October as part of a national tour. The track Frightened Hoarse's is available now on download.  Their forthcoming album Attack of the Mutant 50ft Kebab will be out next year.

The line-up features original band members Tommy Scott (vocals/guitar)  and Franny Griffiths (keyboards). Along with Phil Hartley (double bass/bass), Ryan Clarke (vintage keys)
and drummer Allan Jones who will replace Andy Parle who sadly died in 2009 and Jamie Murphy (vocals/guitar) left the band due to musical differences.

The platinum selling band came to prominence in the mid 1990's with hit single such as Female of the Species, Neighbourhood, Avenging Angels, Me and you Verses the World and The Ballad of Tom Jones. They worked with Tom Jones in 1999 and Cerys Matthews a year earlier. The band formed in 1993 and released four studio albums, plus a number of charting singles, before disbanding in 2005.

Championed by BBC Introducing's Dave Monks, recording a one off sell out live gig at the Cavern Club for the BBC's Live Lounge Liverpool sessions, The Mono LP's are considered one of Liverpool's bright young things attracting a lot of attention and selling out venues all over the UK.

Headlining shows for Alan McGee's (Oasis, Creation Records) Death Disco night in the Notting Hill Art Club London and Liverpool, the band also played this year's Kendal Calling Festival. The band goes from strength to strength as they intend to release their first single, since signing a deal with Cavern Records, and embark on their first major tour. Vicky, from the band, has worked with The View and The Blood Red Shoes on their last two albums.
