Camp Christmas extravaganza set to hit Liverpool's New venue The Dome in December

Deck yourself  with boughs of holly, tinsel, glitter and anything else that sparkles and settle in for a warm winter’s night, Orb Events is delighted to present the first ever  Camp as Christmas festive variety event on Sat 17 December at newly opened Liverpool venue The Dome, Renshaw Street, Liverpool.

This exciting festive variety show is the first fundraiser for Liverpool Pride 2012. The event will be the first of many that are planned as part of the festivals 20102 fundraising campaign, designed with the aim to keep the festival free for all to enjoy.  More details of Liverpool Pride 2012 and its fundraising campaign will be announced in due course.

With more glitter in its wand than fairy godmother could ever imagine, this camptabulous Christmas spectacular will feature amazing live performances, stalls, games and all the XMAS Factor you can handle.  

Santa has come early and left a sack filled to the brim with a winter wonder lusting line up of entertainment wrapped up in a big shiny bow for the audience to enjoy.  The X-Factor’s, Diva Fever top the (Christmas) list, which also includes Liverpool’s own Adam Lyons and AJ Dance in addition to  Pride favourites  FTW,  Judy and Liza’s Emma Dears, and all girl A-Cappella group Barbie Shop as well as Kaz and Britney, who will perform special excerpts from their brand new production ‘Scottie Road The Musical.’  The audience will also have the opportunity to see Liverpool’s Drag Queens as they’ve never seen them before as well as witnessing a few surprise acts on the night.

The hosts for the evening will be the uniquely fabulous and multi-talented Rikki Beadle Blair (Liverpool Vogue Balls & C4’s Metrosexuality) whose impressive portfolio of work ranges from acting and writing to aerobics instructing, and the one and only Ms Dorreen Kumkwik who promise to keep the jokes flowing, the acts rollin’ and the audience wanting more.

The audience is invited to mix n mingle before the show with a complementary cocktail and banter with pre-show hosts and ‘usherettes’ for the evening Kandi Kane, Charlene O’Neil and Disney Dixon who will get the audience into the festive spirit, with songs from Liverpool’s LGBT choir and VJing from Sandi Hughes, who will also show her projections 'Gayzin Roots n Queerwings', in honour of the people who have created a sense of specialness in Liverpool's gay community. There will also be a number of stalls, games, food and drink to enjoy. The bars will also remain open after the show, when the stage will become a dance floor, complete with DJ, for the audience to stay and soak up the atmosphere or dance the night away, Camp as Christmas style.

If that wasn’t enough, once the party at The Dome is over, hop on your magic carpet, bean stalk, pumpkin carriage or any other pantomime method of transport you can find and get yourself over to the Stanley Quarter to dance the night away in all of the bars and clubs you know and love.

What better excuse to don your most fabulously festive attire and get into the seasons spirit?! Judy and Liza embark on premiere UK tour

LEGENDARY LONDON PALLADIUM PERFORMANCE RECAPTURED ACROSS BRITAIN

Judy and Liza, the critically acclaimed musical experience, which recaptures Judy Garland and her daughter Liza Minnelli’s world famous 1964 London Palladium concert is to embark on its premiere UK tour this autumn, taking in 6 theatres across the country.

Having received standing ovations and acclaim from press and audiences alike during its preview run in Liverpool, Emma Dears’ hometown, in November 2010 The show will step out on the road and visit the Grimsby Auditorium (30 September), Aylesbury Waterside Theatre (6 October), Leas Cliff Hall, Folkestone (7 October), the Stoke Regent Theatre (29 October) and the Broadway Theatre, Peterborough (4 November) ending at the York Grand Opera House on 12^th November.

This dazzling yet intimate production tells the turbulent stories of the legendary performers against the backdrop of their London Palladium concert. Judy and Liza will take the audience through their triumphant highs, heart wrenching lows and everything in between against a backdrop of footage, photos and, of course, all of their most famous hits including ‘Cabaret’, ‘The Man That Got Away’, ‘Liza with a Z’ and ‘Over the Rainbow’, performed in a stunning style by West End stars Emma Dears and Lucy Williamson, backed by a 4 piece band with Musical Supervision and orchestrations from renowned composer and MD, Michael England.

The piece has co-incidentally been written and produced by Emma Dears, who also plays Liza. Prior to writing the show, Emma enjoyed West End success performing in Sir Cameron Mackintosh’s Miss Saigon, Grease and Oliver before touring as Mary Magdalene in Jesus Christ Superstar. Lucy Williamson, playing Judy, has most recently enjoyed an extended run in the West End as alternate to Tracie Bennett in ‘End of the Rainbow’ which also charts the life of Judy Garland. Previous to this, Lucy performed in acclaimed productions including We Will Rock You, Les Miserables and the recent UK tour of Stepping Out.  Michael England has worked as Musical Director on a number of acclaimed theatre productions including Miss Saigon (Theatre Royal Drury Lane) and recently directed the music for the 25^th Anniversary cast recording and subsequent UK theatre tour of Les Miserables.

The show’s writer and producer Emma Dears said: ‘When I worked in the West End, people always used to tell me that I looked and sounded like Liza Minnelli, so I looked into her life and the life of Judy Garland and became fascinated with their touching stories and the way that their songs highlighted and bookended various points throughout their time. I’ve wanted to write the story for a number of years, but now seemed to be the right time to do it. I feel that I now have the life experience and am of the right age to get the piece to the place it should be.  We’ve enjoyed some amazing press and audience feedback from our preview performances in Liverpool and now is the time to get the show out onto the road so that more of Judy and Liza’s fans can enjoy it. I hope that the story touches the audiences’ lives in the same way that it’s touched mine.’
