David Gray Announces iTunes Festival show

David Gray has today announced details for an iTunes Festival show at London’s Roundhouse on September 14 2014. The date follows the release of Gray’s new top 10 album Mutineers, his tenth studio release and first in four years, which came out earlier this year on IHT Records via Kobalt Label Services to widespread critical acclaim. Gray’s iTunes slot will see him playing alongside the likes of Beck, Pharrell Williams, Blondie and Kylie at this year’s festival- to watch a video message from David about the show, head here.

Speaking about the iTunes announcement, Gray says; ’It’s very exciting to be part of the line up of this year’s iTunes Festival, where not only are you performing live on stage, but also live in front of a huge audience of fans across the world. It’s also always a pleasure to be playing at The Roundhouse. It’s my local gig, and one of those amazing historic venues where there’s magic in the air.’

Twenty-one years since his first studio album, Mutineers finds David Gray steering into unfamiliar territory while cultivating a pugnacious but respectful relationship with his own history. “You have to sort of tear up the past and let it go,” says David. David’s past includes the phenomenal success of White Ladder (seven million copies sold), one of 3 UK number one albums, Brit and Grammy nominations, and recent albums Draw The Line (2009) andFoundling (2010) both reaching the Billboard Top 10 in the US.  Despite this, the only certainty David had at the commencement of his new recording was the need to surprise himself, not just in terms of how he worked, but the ideas that drove him and the people he worked with.

It’s a shift instantly audible on Mutineers- produced with Lamb’s Andy Barlow- an album whose ancestry David sees as more in the neighbourhood of John Martyn’s Small Hours perhaps than its predecessors in his own catalogue. As well as the change in tone there’s a rising sense throughout the record, from the opening affirmation of ‘Back In The World’ to its conclusion, of an artist liberated from even his own expectations.

Mutineers then is a record that seems to fizz with the joy of its own assembly. The sound of a musician making a clean break and some sharp turns but also reconnecting with the freedoms of an earlier dream.

Valerie June releases iTunes Festival Live EP

After an incredible year both in the UK and on home ground in the US, Valerie June prepares to release a live EP recorded at London's Roundhouse at this year's iTunes festival.   One of the most exciting artists to emerge over the last 12 months, Valerie's album 'Pushin' Against a Stone' has won over audiences and critics alike translating live worldwide with performances at Latitude, Electric Picnic, Montreux Jazz Festival, End of the Road Festival, Austin City Limits, Les Inrocks, on tour with Ryan Bingham and Jake Bugg on a 16-date tour as well as supporting the Rolling Stones at their legendary Hyde Park London gigs this summer to name a few.

TV appearances also include Later… With Jools Holland, David Letterman, Jay Leno and an appearance at the Annual Academy of Country Music Awards at the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas with double award winner (including Best Album), Eric Church.  The performance has since been rated as No.2 in the Top 10 ACM best moments on billboard.com - http://bit.ly/11IZHuw and received rave reviews. Valerie has also graced the pages of US Vogue, O Magazine, Nylon and the New York Times in recent months and went on to debut at 1 in iTunes Singer/Songwriter chart.  In the UK she has been nominated for Best Newcomer at the annual Q Awards.

This September, Valerie joined Jake Bugg again supporting him at the infamous iTunes festival and this 5 track EP is a stunning account of the night bringing her self-titled organic moonshine roots music to life.   During her set Valerie performed her new single, eponymously titled with the album, which is one of the tracks she wrote with Dan Auerbach (multi-Grammy winners The Black Keys) and Kevin Augunas (Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros, Florence and The Machine) and Richard Swift.

The Lumineers announce iTunes festival date

The Lumineers announce iTunes festival date

The Lumineers are pleased to announce they will be headlining one of this year’s iTunes Festival shows at the Roundhouse in London on Tuesday 3rd September. The performance comes the day after the release of their new single ‘Submarines’, from their Platinum (300k)-selling debut album, out on 2nd September.

The band have been playing to adoring crowds at Glastonbury’s Other Stage (at which they clambered into the audience to perform amongst their fans), and T in the Park. The Lumineers are set to make their way to Belfast’s Belsonic Festival, Reading and Leeds later this month, and then to London for the iTunes festival on 3rd September.

Frontman Wesley Schultz said: “We’ve heard nothing but great things about the Roundhouse and the overall iTunes Festival experience. We look forward to hearing the fans sing along and seeing the venue we’ve heard so much about.”

To see them live is to see the band, led by Schultz, at its very best. The demand for tickets in the UK has been astonishing; graduating from Hoxton Bar and Grill to KOKO, then Shepherd’s Bush Empire and two consecutive nights at Brixton Academy, followed by a sold out UK tour. The band will be back in November for another UK Tour. Details to be announced soon.

Another highlight this year was The Lumineers’ performance at the legendary Grammy Awards 2013, at which they were nominated for both “Best New Artist” and “Best Americana Album.“

The band’s numerous performances and nominations cement what has been a phenomenal year for the Denver five-piece who have sold over 2 million copies of their debut self-titled album globally and over 3.5 million single downloads of their debut single ‘Ho Hey’. In the UK, the album has hit the 300,000 mark, reaching an official chart high at #8, while  ‘Ho Hey’ is also certified Platinum. Both the album and single have been fluctuating in the UK iTunes top 10 since release last year with sales increasing week on week.

New single ‘Submarines’ offers yet another small-but-perfectly-formed hit, starting with a simple piano hook and building throughout, until it leaves you wanting more.
